“Pretty cottages and excellent restaurant.”
Reviewed 9 November 2013

We were 2 couples on a motorcycle road trip and the when I was researching somewhere to stay this seemed to meet our requirements of a nice place to stay with it's own restaurant as we like to kick back and relax after a days riding. We were met by Penny who showed us to the cottages, which were lovely. Clean and private with lovely views over the countryside. As I had read some reviews about the road noise on TA, I had requested the ones furthest from the road. It appeared we were the only people staying that night so it was very quiet. The guys headed off on the motorbikes to the pub and bought some cold beers and wine which we enjoyed on the terrace of our cottage before we had dinner in the restaurant which was very good and we were well looked after by the daughter-in law, (sorry I can't remember her name). I found I could still hear the road noise but I am a very light sleeper so probably most people would be fine. We declined the offer of continental breakfast and used the tea, coffee and biscuits supplied in the room. Then stopped just down the road at the Lyra View Cafe for an excellent cooked breakfast. I would definitely stay there again if we are visiting this area again. In fact I have decided to go back at some time and visit the wineries and would probably stay a couple of nights. Good job John and Penny!

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the road.

This was a very well presented and managed place. Other reviews have said it all. Had the most southern cottage and was quiet, clean and well appointed. John dropped us off at some wineries and had a decent if not remarkable dinner meal at the restaurant. Good local wine list with some depth.

Not really walking distance to much, and as you can see close to the highway, but noise was not a problem. No detectable wi fi, good 3G coverage. Better wineries within 4 km.

But John and Penny are amiable hosts and would probably stay again.

Room Tip: The ones away from the road might be better

We were welcomed by John and Penny and immediately felt at home. The grounds are gorgeous. Our cottage was cosy with a separate sitting room. Tea and courage making facilities were available. There was continual heating with additional options available for us - including blankets! We enjoyed drinks in a common room around a fire place before heading to dinner in the restaurant. The food was amazing!! We loved that after a full day of touring the wineries we didn't have far to go for dinner then bed!

We arrived quite late (8pm) but Penny was cheerful and very happy to direct us to our parking space in the dark with a torch and a smile. She took us on a tour of our cottage and was very friendly. We stayed 2 nights. The rooms are very clean and have central heating plus an electric blanket and air conditioning. It was the little things that did it for us - candles provided, home made biscotti, dried flowers, fresh milk in the fridge - these are the thoughtful touches you don't often see. In addition my bf decided to surprise me with a candlelit dinner in our cottage and he said that John was more than accommodating, giving him extra candles, flowers for the table, recommending wine to match the food and delivering room service. The food itself was above average. The service is exceptional. The surrounding gardens are beautiful. We had a back cottage so didn't hear much traffic noise though it is a short drive into Stanthorpe. Will definitely stay again. Thanks for a great weekend Penny and John!

My friend booked this place, the cottages are cute and clean, but very noisy road. No kitchen or sink for food use, unusual.
We ate in the restaurant which was good. Cost fireplace in the main lounge too, but none in the cottages.
Accom and food are expensive too

Our previous stay at the Vineyard Cottages was a couple of years ago. Last week we had the pleasure of returning for 2 nights. Thank you to John and Penny for their lasting hospitality and quality accommodation: the cosy cottage surrounded by the landscaped gardens together with the food, and of course fab wines, is what makes such a stay memorable - for the right reasons!
