“Wonderful retreat in Countryside NZ”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

We stayed in the French cottage for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed being there. Suzie and Alistair are great hosts. The breakfast and welcome platter were delicious and so wholesome. We also got a chance to see the two resident cows, chickens and the calves all of whom are "free range" all day long. The room was comfortable, quiet and very clean. We also enjoyed the gourmet coffee in the room.

We stayed for two nights in the French Cottage after our wedding. On our wedding night, after returning home very late, we were welcomed with lanterns and candles lighting the path up towards the cottage, a welcome sign, and a beautiful platter waiting for us. This awesome gesture, along with the beautiful, organic breakfasts, made for a beautiful stay. Thank you so much, this is a great place, great hosts and we highly recommend it! Thank you.

As Americans my husband and I were (and still are) total B&B novices. We took a chance on this charming place because of reviews here and it's location to what we wanted to see in NZ... Waitomo Caves, volcano lakes and rolling countryside.
Let me tell you.... It was awesome! Wonderful decor, quiet countryside, nice hosts and the food was unreal!
We suggest if you're a wino like us pick up a nice bottle of NZ wine from the Liquor Land in town so you can have wine with the welcome platter.
So worth the trekk out of Auckland'

Fantastic food, beautiful hand-made accommodation and luxurious furniture and fittings. It was a bit of a struggle to get my teens out of the comfort of this accommodation, but with Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton nearby we had a great (if short) stay. Fantastic breakfast. They don't advertise widely, preferring to rely on word of mouth, so I am telling everyone I know! This will be top of our list next time we are in NZ.

We stayed here for a night while travelling through the North Island. This is a great base as an intermediate stop between Waitomo caves and Hobbiton.

Food platter is amazing on arrival and the breakfast was all homemade and delicious

Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic time at Earthstead. It was really nice to have a small platter of fresh/homemade goodies upon our arrival. The French Studio was just perfect. not to big, not to small. The food was amazing, especially the homemade jams, honey and sour dough bread. It was a welcomed site when we returned the first day to see that the uneaten bread from our morning breakfast was waiting for us, sealed in a little container. It is just what we needed to go with our wine that night. The smoothie, yogurt and omelet the next morning was terrific. We will definitely stay here on our next trip back to NZ and would highly recommend Earthstead Villas
