“Amazing farm stay, perfect”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

What a beautiful farm Jim and Libby have and what an amazing experience it was to stay there for a few days. They made us feel like family, cooked excellent food, took us on walks through the farm, it was perfect ! The accommodation is spacious, spotless and really comfortable perfect for a family. The location is a short drive from cambridge and hobbiton, so really convenient.

We really enjoyed meeting Jim and Libbys friends, family and all their animals, we were lucky to stay at the time the puppies were still there, all 9 of them ! :)

Libby and Jim - Thank you again for your incredible hospitality and warmth, would love to come and see you guys again !

dont hesitate to book this, if you want an unforgettable farm stay in NZ this is it ! :)

My boyfriend and I booked ourselves for a Romney Package from Hobbiton tours. This included an overnight farm stay which was chosen for us by Hobbiton. We were unsure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised when we showed up to this amazing ranch house in the middle of rolling green hills and fields. Our hosts Jim and Libby were super friendly and eager to make us feel at home. The house is split, so the guests have their own section complete with a kitchen unit, lounge with a TV, dining table, bathroom and 2 bedrooms.
Libby kindly showed us around her farm and surrounding farms. It turned into an exciting, memorable adventure and my boyfriend and I got some incredible pictures of the landscape.
Dinner was included in our package which was delicious. Jim and Libby took great care of us and were amazing conversationalists. Our relaxing night was made even more comfortable with a heater for our room and an electric blanket already in our comfy bed.
Breakfast was just as delightful as dinner, even though it was just the two of us eating. Our stay was completed with a final walk around the farm and a visit to more farm animals.
One of the highlights of our stay was the puppies. Jim and Libby had eight adorable black/chocolate lab puppies. My boyfriend and I are huge dog lovers and Jim and Libby were totally fine with us going to their garage numerous times to play with them.
My boyfriend and I agree 100% this was the best accommodation we stayed at during our two-week trip around New Zealand. Thank you Jim, Libby and all the animals for the best time during our trip!

Completely relaxing place. Rolling hills, quiet environment so close to nature, lovely hosts and their friend. And to top it off, yummy home-cooked meals by our lady host Libby. The smell of delicious cakes baking in the oven (and of course eating it later!), drinking hot coffee at the patio in the cold winter afternoon....such a warm and cozy feeling! The morning walk around the farm is so refreshing and a perfect way to start the day. If I ever to go that way again, will definitely stay there!

Kauri Lodge was the perfect definition of the word 'Hospitality'. The house is located among beautiful scenery, and the hosts definitely made it feel like a home. Libby's cooking was fantastic, making certain that my friend and I didn't go hungry, and Jim's bantering story's over a cold beer were very entertaining. Excellent company from both Libby and Jim. As stated in the title, Kauri Lodge was definitely the icing on the cake of a great trip around the North Island. If I ever go back to New Zealand, it will be one of my first stops. 5 Stars! Thanks Libby and Jim!

Kauri Lodge was the best value for money of our trip round the NI. Extremely spacious, very friendly hosts, beautiful countryside with fantastic view, welcoming of our dog, and the best breakfast of the trip - thank you Libby. Hope the puppies arrived safely.

LOVED the Kauri Lodge and our hosts, Libby and Jim! They were completely fantastic. Libby was so much fun... If I lived in NZ I would be making a coffee date with her right now because I enjoyed her company so much! The farm was beautiful... rolling hills, wonderfully friendly horses, sheep and cows, and we even got to meet a pregnant cow and feed some of the sheep and calves! Great fun, especially when we got to see some of the native bush. I got some great shots of some gorgeous native trees, and we even took a ride on a swing that was hidden away in the bush! Such fun! That evening Libby & Jim's neighbors Beryl and Allan came over for supper and we all hit it off like old friends. Libby played Danny Boy on her organ while we all sang different versions of the words (I laughed 'til I cried, it was so funny!), and Allan busted out his guitar and he & Beryl entertained us with some great music, including some Pink Floyd and Elvis. Libby's dinner (pork & chicken, sweet potatoes [kumara], mashed potatoes, green salad, green beans, etc.) was fantastic (I was especially over the moon for her garlic carrots), and breakfast the next morning of poached eggs, ham, and hash browns with Libby's very own tomato sauce was wonderful as well. Libby and Jim were so knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Jim has almost convinced me to make another trip to NZ so I can visit a proper sheep-shearing operation to start my new career as a sheep shearer, :-) and Libby has inspired me to try to create a garden that is 1/10th as lovely as hers (because I'm sure I could never manage to match hers!). We slept fantastically well at Kauri Lodge... the night was refreshingly cool, so we left our doors cracked open to let in the night air. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was wonderfully set up with a toilet separate from the shower area. Libby had obviously put much thought into providing everything we could possibly need. Our area had comfy chairs & couches, with plenty of music and movie options for our downtime, as well as some great books about NZ. We had our own refrigerator, with water and orange juice already provided. The sunset that evening, which was right at the back of the house over the valley where the livestock were feeding, was spectacular and everyone in our group got some great pictures. The only bad thing about Kauri Lodge was having to leave! Highly, highly recommended!

It was a great place to stay far away from the bright city lights, quiet and serene. A beautiful place well maintained with modern amenities. Only regret did not stay long enough. Good for kids too, our two enjoyed their stay and loved the farm tour given by Libbey. Both Libbey and Jim were excellent hosts. Looking forward to our next trip in the future
