“WOW!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2010

Although I have stayed at Rippenvale before, I was blown away by the quality of the service. Upon arrival I was greeted by my host, we were shown to our room and settled in. The rooms are fantastic and the breakfasts are probably the talk of the town. Really, there are no words to describe Rippenvale. The hosts are great, the rooms are great and the food is phenominal!. Nothing ever seems to be a problem at Rippenvale. Everything is taken care of for you and Helen will even organise dinner reservations at any one of the great dining atractions around Hanmer. You will have to go there and look for yourself, you will not be dissapointed.

We spent our 10th wedding anniv. at Rippinvale and could not have made a better choice. It is the little things that add value, Helen is born for hospitality and John also very obliging. For me the highlight was sipping bubbles in the hot outdoor spa as the first star appeared on a crystal clear night above the snow capped mountains. For my husband it was Gayle's amazing massage (a close second for me). Also reccomend Malibar for dinner, take your wallet a bit $$$ but very worth it!

Unfortunately we were in NZ on a short visit so could only spend one night at Rippinvale. We really enjoyed our stay and left wishing we'd allowed time for a longer stay. The suites are spacious and comfortable and the hospitality afforded us by the hosts Helen and John was second to none. Lilly the Burmese cat made herself at home in our suite as soon as we arrived and true to Helen's warning Lilly headed straight into the bedroom and attempted to make herself at home on the bed! We dined at Malibar restaurant in the village at Helen's recommendation and it was a magnificent dining experience. Breakfast next morning was even better....an absolutely sumptuous feast crafted by Helen. I dont usually go anywhere near porridge but Helen's porridge was something special! The breakfast was so huge and sumptuous we didnt have to eat anything else for the rest of the day!.

Looking forward to a longer stay at Rippinvale next time around.

It's hard to describe how much we enjoyed staying as guests of Helen and John!

They are the consummate hosts. Nothing is too much trouble and they looked after us from the moment we arrived.

We stayed for three nights as part of our honeymoon, and they were the highlight of our trip down south.

Helens breakfasts are exceptional - tasty fresh ingredients baked or cooked with love by an experienced hand "from a long line of Jewish cooks" she told us.

Rippinvale = outstanding!

This place is amazing. Helen & John are great - there when you need them and very unobtrusive. We had a really nice break to get away for my partner's birthday. We stayed 2 nights and it was clean and very comfortable.
Very tastefully decorated and the location is perfect. Far enough away to get away from it all but close enought to access the town. The food is fantastic. Helen is very into sourcing local produce and I think most of it was organic or grown in her own garden. Tastes amazing.

I concur with the previous reviews Rippinvale Retreat is one of the best B&Bs I have been; the accomodation is 2 lovely suites in a cottage each with their own garden but my top rating is for Helen's, the owner, friendliness, care and wonderful cooking skills. When we arrived there were 2 pieces of a chocolate cake which were so flavoured, "moistered" and light that we decided to keep them for after our Indian dinner with a glass of Pinot noir (Helen booked us at a top Indian restaurant in town), Before dinner Helen came with a glass of an excellent Sauvignon Blanc and some delicious nibbles cooked by her and we had lovely home made sweets on our bedside tables when we came back from town. Breakfast was also incredibly good and nicely served/presented. I do not like porridge but Helen's one is to be tried. We skipped - with regret - the cooked breakfast offered as we were full with delicious pastries and bread home cooked. I asked Helen where we could buy a good quality bread in town as I wanted to buy salmon and oysters and eat them with rye bread. Helen turned the day of our departure with a home cooked rye bread as a gift which was so yummy ...we ate it with seafood and still remember her kindness and hospitality. Well done Helen!!

Helen approaches B&B business with sincerity, class and with her heart and it is the way all B&Bs should be!! Congratulations to you Helen. I will be back and stay longer as I loved Hanmer Springs and your B&B.

My husband and I stayed here in Feb. The host, Helen , was so friendly and helpful - delivering us a local wine and home made delicacies every evening, not to mention incredible breakfasts. She was also very respectful of our privacy. The place itself is lovely - gorgeous grounds and lovely rooms. Try out the massage thearpist too - Gaye - she was fabulous. Helen will help you book her.
