We could not fault anything at this restaurant - the food, the service, the atmosphere is wonderful. The attention to detail is excellent. The staff were friendly, and attentive but not too much. The meals were wonderful. We would say it is one of the best restaurants we have been to.

This restaurant decor was lovely. The service was good. But as for the food it was so small i thought it was an entree. Our 2 meals plus 2 soft drinks come to nearly $100.00.The main dish we wanted was lamb but that was not available.I am normally not critical of restaurants as everywhere we went in N,Z was great but this one was well below par.You don't mind paying for quality food but this wasn't.

Dear Beck T,

Thank you for taking the time to review Chantellinis Restaurant. We are very saddened you didn’t enjoy your experience. As a rule we do not respond to reviews, however due to some discrepancies in your review, we feel it necessary to reply.

Firstly, which dishes did you order?
I am sorry to hear you dined on the one evening that we ran out of lamb. Unfortunately, our lamb supplier arrived with their delivery late in the day, and as it is slow cooked (for 5 hours) we simply did not have time to cook it. We serve all our meat fresh, and due to the nature of our small and remote village, did not have access to other suppliers.

However, you have not mentioned what you actually took or whether in fact you enjoyed your food or not. Simply, it was not a large enough serve for you. But, instead, you have written Quality not Quantity. You have taken the time to write a review, but with very little content except you found your food portion too small – maybe you have a very large appetite? Or maybe you normally dine in restaurants (as you have not reviewed any others) that serve very large portions of inexpensive fried food?

Our menu is designed to enjoy over the period of the evening and consequently many of our diners take multiple courses, however you chose to take a main only.
Normally when reviewers take the time to submit a review, they have the courtesy to mention :
a) what they ate. I am curious to see what you actually ordered.
b) then they talk about the flavour, cooking, harmony of the dish, the quality of the cut of meat, the sauces, the wine matching, the knowledge and competence of the wait staff etc.

Service was good.
You were greeted at the door. Your coats were taken and hung on arrival. You were able to choose your table and then seated there. You were seated at a table with linen table cloths and linen napkins. You were asked about your day. Your water was poured all evening. You were checked on during the course of the meal, which would have been the perfect opportunity to see if we could add some sides to your order, such as the duck fat potatoes or almond sautéed broccoli.

Food
You were given complimentary freshly house baked bread after your order was taken
Although you didn’t order a dessert you were given a complimentary house made salted caramel chocolate to complete your meal. (made with 70% dark Belgian Chocolate).
All our food is sourced fresh and locally. Everything from our stocks which become the bases of our sauces to our pastry to charcuterie is prepared by our chefs.

Quality
You mention poor quality, using a vast and defamatory statement – but you have in no way mentioned how. Firstly, we don’t freeze our produce – we order it in fresh. Secondly, use only top quality ingredients – we know the farmers who grow our meats – we know how their animals are farmed and the systems they use in the butchery of the meats. We fillet the meat at the restaurant, so the meat doesn’t go through a system of chemicals. This also enables us to correctly portion – so each serving is: 21 Day Dry Aged Beef Fillet (Angus) 240grams, Duck Breast 230grams, Denver Leg Venison 200 grams. (as you did not mention what you ate I have included the options). With the fish, we order it direct from the Fish Market, who get it straight from the boats in the morning. We use two fillets of the fish of the day.

Price
Lastly, if you ordered two mains and two soft drinks the most you could have possibly spent is $90. Am not sure why you added an extra $10 to your comment? We have our prices listed on the menus both inside the restaurant and outside the restaurant and on the website, so you were totally aware of what the cost of the meal would be. Chantellinis is not a budget option. Nor do customers ‘fill up’ on fried food.

I thoroughly recommend that in the future if you dine in a restaurant where the wait staff ask you how your meal is, and you find it inadequate, then let them fix it for you! That is the very reason they ask.

This review is long overdue and only something I recently remembered along with a 100+ restaurant reviews I'm still getting around to reviewing.

I organised a booking from Sydney as a surprise for the missus for her 38th. Correspondence was done via email and my request for a birthday cake was well received. I just have to say that they were very trusting to organise all this for someone located overseas even though they never requested credit card details or some form of payment during the correspondence.

It's always the service and the surroundings that invoke old memories; and that is what this place has done to me. I still remember the fantastic service at this quaint little restaurant. The two waitresses working at the time were very attentive and were knowledgeable in the food as well as the wines.

The decor is very parisian chic. It had some of that old world charm that very few restaurants have these days.

What we had (I never forget the food):
Duck and Pork Terrine entree
Duck Parcels entree
Cassoulet main
Fish of the Day main
La Collina Bilancia Shiraz

I can't remember the cost but every morsel of food was worth it and the wine was fantastic.

From being greeted and seated, our meal at Chantellinis was fantastic. Service staff were always there but not overpowering. Thanks Maria, your service was great and also thanks to the chefs for great food. Maria's knowledge of food and wine was exceptional.

What a lovely place to dine. Restaurant was very warm, waitress was friendly and interactive but not intrusive. Nothing was a problem and food was devine. They even went the extra mile and presented the birthday girls dessert with a birthday message on the plate in chocolate.
Pre dinner cocktails were so good with an amazing selection.
After dinner we were presented with a home made salted cameral chocolate which would have to rate as one of the nicest I have tasted.
I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation
