My Wife and I have just spent 3 wonderful days at the Heritage Hotel, and could not fault it.
On arrival, parking was easy, and we received a most efficient and friendly welcome. Our room was spacious and clean, and the Bathroom huge! The heating was super efficient, and as the temperature plunged to -6 degrees was certainly appreciated.
We did not intend to eat in the hotel for more than one night, but the combination of a fabulous meal the first night, together with the charisma and efficiency of our Waitstaff, Petyo and Orshi, convinced us to repeat it each night. We were not disappointed!
We look forward to staying there again in the near future.

Down from Auckland for a weekend away we could not have chosen a better place to stay. We stayed in a Garden Suite together with our son, 7 years. The room was clean with good bedding, heating and shower, Great views towards the mountains. We booked dinner at Isobel's the on site restauarant. The staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. We had a young man serve us for the evening, Sudipt, He was very professional and had a great attitude. Food was outstanding, steak cooked to perfection and great hand made chips. My wife had the pasta which was also very good. Heritage Hamner Springs is located in the heart of Hamner Springs a short walk from the hot pools. I would recommend this little tourist village. There is much to do with rafting, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and jet boating. Good cafes and restuarants. It is a enjoyable 90 minute vehicle transfer from Christchurch. Stop off at Pukeko Junction for a mid way break with good food and service,

I stayed with family in one of the villas for two nights to attend an event that was being held at the hotel itself.

It was the best of both worlds - unlike others from the event who stayed at a house that required cleaning at the end of the stay, we had servicing and unlike staying at the hotel itself, we had living areas.

The hotel staff were fantastic. Two of our group arrived early and the booking was under my name. I had added their names to the booking but unfortunately the third party website did not send this information to the hotel. This, combined with the booking being made under my married name made life even more difficult but all was resolved with a quick phone call to me.

The villla had three bedrooms, one bathroom and a separate toilet. It also had a decent kitchen (with plenty of tea and coffee) although we ate out, a dining table with seating for 6 and a lounge area with two couches and a tv.

The rear of the unit looked out to the rest of the villas, the little lake and the mountains. There was a lovely deck area with table and chairs for enjoying the summer months, too.

We used the reverse cycle air conditioning (heat pump) to keep the place nice and warm. There was a fire but we didn't end up lighting it.

The bedrooms were comfortable. One double (that had a connecting door to the bathroom), one with two singles and a loft bedroom with a large double. Everyone slept well.

The villa itself was placed close to parking (it had a garage, too but we had three vehicles with us), the hotel and was well placed for walking to have meals and coffee.

My only gripe with this hotel was the internet. Not only was it a charged service, but it was not very user friendly to log on to. I work regularly with websites and computers so was able to deal with it but while I was out, one of our group had some real trouble and gave up.

I don't think wifi access is a big ask these days and I am sure there would be easier ways to have guests log on.

That said, we had a lovely stay and would happily return.

We arrived early from Ashburton at 12:00pm but the staff were simply awesome. Checked to see if the room was ready. It was and we left our bags and went by foot to the nearby village shops for lunch. The room was set up well with a nice clean bathroom but a somewhat tired bedroom. In saying this it was more than adequate - it just could to with a fresh makeover. The bed was very comfortable and the room was easily heated. We visited the hot pools with towels supplied from the hotel at no cost. We ate dinner in the restaurant where the staff were excellent along with the food and there was a suitable wine list. Overall a lovely stay; and being very close to the village you can park the car and walk. Remember to ask for towels if you are visiting the pools at reception.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Garden Suite for the weekend and really had an amazing time. The room was clean, fresh towels both days, shower was amazing, excellent atmosphere. The only downside was the room service we ordered. The burger was very oily, like soaking in oil. We arrived late and restaurants were already closed so we ordered room service. When my boyfriend had a bite of his burger, a lot of oil was dripping. The coconut meringue was great though. Still an amazing weekend anyway! :)

Stayed in one of the villas on a road trip down south. On a positive note dinner in the restaurant was excellent-extremely good value for the portion sizes and quality of food, and a good selection of wines. I wouldn't eat anywhere else in Hamner now. Breakfast was another story-extremely expensive for the buffet and very average. I would avoid. Accommodation was good-beware the photos make the villa rooms look far more "5 star" than they actually are; and let itself down by a few minor discrepancies: eg no milk for coffee, no cork screw, no kindling or paper for the fire. This all said we have stayed in most of the other accommodation places in hamner and this is probably the best of the lot.

Dear SusietLigar,

Thank you for your recent review and for sharing your experience with our readers. Thank you for your kind comments regarding our dinner service but with regards to your experience at breakfast this is something I will certainly look into as we have been receiving very good comments regarding the food and service.

Your comments about the Villa's have been taken on board and will talk to our housekeeping team about the lack of milk as this is provided as a standard. With regards to kindling, we actually do not have this in our Villa's but instead, have fire starters which actually work better.

Thank you for your kind comments and we certainly hope to host you again in the near future.

Superb location, right smack in the middle of everything - park you car outside in the impressive open span car park then leave it there as most of the immediate attractions - shops, booking agents, restaurants, activities & even the Hot Pools are all within 2-3mins walk. They've done well to refurbish this old Institution but it does fall a little short of it's 'Boutique' status. I found the room to be very basic (223) 2 queen sized beds up against the wall, a make shift closet & cabinet to house the basic necessities - kettle, glasses, cups, robes, ironing board & spare blankets. Then the bathroom... all white, floor to ceiling + fixtures - too clinical/cold & hospital like for my taste. The walls seemed paper thin, you could hear everyone's conversations as they walked past to their rooms & unruly children running up & down the halls yelling & laughing was a real intrusion over top of the TV or our own conversation. This sized room would better suit having only the 1 bed in it off the main wall with maybe a desk or small seating area with a table for reading or in room dining. We had 3 people in this room so with only 1 seat & a small coffee table we had to consume room service on the beds & also lay about or sit on the beds for TV watching & generally hanging out. I am trying hard not to be too critical BUT it is 'The Heritage' so forgive me for having too high an expectation! On the upside - the staff were wonderful, friendly & helpful. All meals were delicious & the overall appearance & cleanliness of the entire complex was 2nd to none. We would stay here again but next time try a different room.

Room Tip: Try for rooms at the end of corridors to avoid noise from other patrons passing by. Check that your...
