“Nice hotel and service, ruined by poor sound proofing”
Reviewed 2 August 2009

The heritage is a nice 3-4 star hotel, the Garden Room we booked was very clean and nicely set away from the main hotel. The view was pretty stunning looking up towards the snow capped mountains. We only stayed one night but found the service excellent including the standard of the restaurant. What really let down our stay was the poor sound proofing between the rooms - the Garden Rooms have a shared doorway which I think goes a long way to letting in A LOT of sound from the neighbouring guests. I found it extremely annoying, luckily my wife fell asleep early but I could not find any sleep until the people next door stopped their casual conversations (and other activities!) and various phone calls to family/friends in Australia (yes I could hear that much detail) for the night, at approx 1am.

What a shame, it really is a lovely hotel for the money but I would honestly recommend not staying in a Garden Room (can't speak for the other rooms).

We arrived at the heritage on a very cold rainy day and unfortunately we couldn’t get an early check in but that was ok we went to the pools during that time. When we returned from the pools our room was ready. We were very tired and looked forward to checking in. The staff were very friendly .When we were showed to our room, We had two single beds and a double fold-away bed which was already made up with fresh sheets and blankets. The room was very clean and tidy nice bathroom and shower. However we had a disappointing view considering the hotel seemed quite empty, we were looking out over gas bottles and piles of wood. As I’ve said we were very tired so we decided to order room service for dinner. We ordered two lasagnes and a cabonara dish which took a little while to come. When they finally did, the cabonara was nice and hot but the Lasagnas were still frozen in the middle we called room service and they were very sorry and gave us two free large carbonaras which came very quickly and were very nice. The breakfast the next morning was nothing amazing, but what was there was very nice.
We enjoyed our stay at the Heritage it was a bit disappointing considering we had been there before and absolutely loved it we did stay in a different room the second time .I would recommend upgrading to the GARDEN DELUXE ROOM as it is not joined onto the main hotel building and is very private and cosy.
I would defiantly recommend going to the bakery across the road very friendly and great food.

Hanmer Springs is a wonderful place and we wish we could have stayed for longer than the 1 night we had there, the hot pools are fantastic, relaxing and therapeutic. The hotel is located in the middle of town and is clean etc but i thought it was a bit dear for the price we paid as it was advertised as 4 star plus but did not seem to be anything special. Breakfast was dear too!

We just returned from a night at the Heritage, which was wonderful. I had read the reviews on here before we left and we were both very hesitant about staying here, but our experience couldn't have been better.

We had booked a deluxe room but we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite on arrival (for free) - this may have been because I asked for a non-shabby room (based on the reviews from here, this was a concern for us), when I booked online, or they may have just done it to be nice. Admittedly the hotel was very quiet, and I do not imagine we would have had the same upgrade had we stayed at a busier time.

The rooms - we saw both our suite & also a deluxe room on the same level. Neither of them were shabby in the slightest, so perhaps they are refurbishing? In fact, nothing in the hotel iself appeared shabby, from what we saw (including the dining room, reception, parlour area, hallways or rooms). Only some of the corridor walls could have done with a wipe, but that was about it. Our suite was fantastic - two flat screen TVs, a living area, tea & coffee making facilites, a king-sized bed & private balcony. Both the suite & regular rooms were on the small side (especially for the price you pay), but this is the only thing I would mention. If you are looking at booking a garden suite - don't. They appear more like hostel-type chalets, & the rooms in the main hotel are much nicer.

The facilities - the pool & hot tub look a bit old, but generally if you want to sit in a hot tub, you will probably go to the hot pools across the road. There is a tennis court. The restaurant charges $26.50 for a buffet breakfast, so you can probably find something cheaper across the road - there are various places that do cooked breakfasts, & there is also a bakery nearby. Dinner didn't look unreasonable for the price, but we did not actually eat at the hotel at all.

The price - overall I thought that our room upgrade made the experience well worth it. If I had paid the same for a regular deluxe type room, I wouldn't have felt ripped off as such, but would have thought it probably should be cheaper. In saying that, the location is excellent, there is plenty of parking (if the front is full there is another carpark on one side), free hot chocolate in the lobby during the day, & the service was really good. We booked only 4 hours before showing up & everything was excellent.

We would definitely stay again. We understand that some people have has negative experiences, but we had a brilliant romantic weekend, & loved every minute of it.

Thanks Heritage Hotel!

I booked a deluxe garden villa for a surprise romantic getaway. I thought I would get privacy in a luxury room surrounded by beautiful gardens.
What I got was little more than hostel standard chalets which were thin walled and had a door adjoining another room. I booked online and was asked when I would like to check in - I put 12md and received a confirmation email to that effect. When we arrived (in the pouring rain after a 4 hour trip), I was told that our room wouldnt be ready for another 2 hours and to go away and return at 2pm!!
When we returned, we were given our key and shown a map to our room. No details about check out time, services provided etc. The hotels staff were indifferent, our room was cold. The decor was tired looking although the hotel looked beautiful from the outside. After raining non-stop for the weekend, the gardens were flooded and marshy. We had to walk through paths flooded with great big puddles - not great in heels!!!
I wish I had read these reviews prior to booking and will not stay again. I have stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels before and this certainly isnt 4 star!!

We stayed for 2 nights with our extended family for a family birthday party. The service we recieved was excellent. After reading some reviews I was concerned how the rooms would be but we were happy with the standard. Several family members were staying in various rooms and they do vary greatly in standard but were good value for money.
We had breakfast included in the price and it was a very good hotel buffet. The party was held in the ballroom and the food was excellent, especially considering it was a buffet.
