We got to Hamner late afternoon on the sunday of Labour weekend with no prior booking....bit silly I know..... we drove around looking for "vacancy" signs. We saw a lovely house with B&B sign & vacancy, they had 1 room left. We were welcomed and shown around by this awesome property. I thought it might be out of our price range...but no.... to our surprise it was very reasonable. We met other guests in the billiard room for complimentary drinks which was a lovely touch. The cooked breakfast was served in our room and was brilliant. We could not fault the total experience.

Room Tip: wheelchair access, child friendly

We spent one night at Cheltenham House, which is conveniently situated near the Hot Pools, bars and restautants on a quiet side street. We stayed in one of the garden suites which were situated only yards from the main house. The room was spacious and very clean; the bed was large and comfortable. Drinks in the Billiards Room were a very nice touch where you have the opportunity to meet other guests as well as hosts, Len and Maree. We had already booked dinner at a restaurant in Hanmer but would have liked to have stayed and chatted a bit longer with other guests and our hosts. Breakfast, which was excellent, was delivered to the garden suite at an agreed time. A very friendly and comfortable accommodation and I would recommend this B&B to anyone that is visiting Hanmer Springs.

Stopped at hanmer springs on the way to Christchurch airport for the last couple of days of our holiday . The house and its owners were delightful , breakfasts wonderful, the gardens spectacularly out in flower . The country is physically so beautiful and hanmer springs was no different . The only dark spot was the woman in the information centre who told us there was very little to do. We found plenty of things and can recommend a stay

We are so glad you have taken home lots of happy memories of our wonderful country. It was great to meet you both and hope we get to meet again. We will address the problem in the Information Centre!! There is so much to do, both passive and active. Thank you and kind regards

Definitely reflects the top rating in the lonely planet. We stayed 1 night on our trip across the south island. The room was perfect and the host, Len had ensured that you had everything to make the stay comfortable and amazing. We had the best night's kip since arriving in NZ? Breakfast was fab and having it served in your own private conservatory attached to your room was truly magnificent. If you are looking for top class accommodation and comfort then Cheltenham house has it all. Ma really nice touch is joining your hosts Len and Marie for a glass of local wine by the open fire.

My wife and I recently stayed at Cheltenham while on a short break away from Christchurch. The hospitality shown by Len and Maree far exceeded what we expected.
The room was awesome, the food brilliant and the wine and conversation around the open fire with hosts and other guests was a wonderful experience.
Just a fantastic stay and certainly not the last.
