“Clean room, nice staff”
Reviewed 18 January 2014 via mobile

Stayed 1 night in January. The room was clean and it's close to everything. Beds weren't the most comfortable and rooms were a little bit hot. But staff were friendly and helpful. Extra towels provided for the Springs. Would be helpful to have the iron in your room, instead of the laundry (especially as we were in the disabled unit)

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Alpine Lodge. Greeted very warmly and hosts most helpful. Room comfortable and spacious, with full kitchen and all the stuff needed for cooking and eating. Small critique, would have been helpful to have somewhere to hang/store clothing, no hooks even in the bathroom! Very amenable to a late checkout too, many thanks.

We stayed in a studio unit. Room and toilet was clean and comfortable. The location was handy to the pool and town centre and they provide towels for the pool. There were cutlery, plates, bowls etc but only tea and coffee making facility which we were aware of when we booked. However, they had a communal microwave that could be used in the laundry room which was handy. No sink except the bathroom sink to wash dirty dishes and also had to purchase own dishwashing liquid as none were supplied. The only thing that was not very good was that we could hear everything that went on in the next room quite clearly. The owners need to insulate the walls between the room much, much better.

Original owners have re-purchased this property and welcomed us like honored guests. Fishing tips for my husband, help planning the next leg of our journey, even a charger for my IPad, The property is being renovated - we enjoyed a wood paneled room with cathedral ceiling.

Room Tip: Variety, so have a look - ask what is available.

We booked this motel in advance..from Australia. Credit card deposit required despite 3-4 visits in last few years.
*We were delayed out of Sydney. Kept lodge informed re late arrival.
*When we arrived circa 7.20p.m.- (a Monday night), we asked about check-out time. 10am!.We asked about late check-out poss midday. No...10.30. what about 11am? No 10.30!! The 'manager' said he was 'BOOKED OUT' the following night. We were also asked to pay in full at that time.
*As we were later than expected, our trip across the road to the thermal pools was abandoned that evening...and became less than feasible the next morn.
We went out for a quick dinner. Back in our room- we checked the internet. The place next night was NOT booked out. There were still 3 configurations of rooms available.
*The next morn, internet still showed 3 varieties of room vacant..as did the sign out the front.
*We left at 10.00am exactly. Handing our key to the 'manageress', we expressed our disappointment. She did not appear concerned and said the 1030 check-out was because of cleaners. ...not because of 'booked out'. there were about 6 cars there overnight for the 24 units...not a lot of cleaning..and mid-week. I suspect she was 'live-in' and in the interests of P.R., a late check-out could have had us enjoy our time in this lovely area.
We had stayed here before. The wooden interior chalets had atmosphere and were across the road from the thermal pools. Because of this, we had overlooked the shortcomings of the place.- an extremely uncomfortable bed, shower recess was comparable in size to a small campervan, . Glasses in the cupboard were upside down and stuck to the shelf- not cleaned properly. After returning from our hasty dinner, we found the glass external sliding door was not locked. Perhaps, we should have checked....but one would think that units would be secure upon check-in. Will not return and will rescind recommendations that we have made to friends. Poor P.R. ........and not a straight forward approach with guests...certainly letting down usually superb N.Z. hospitality.

Room Tip: Check the room first!!! Always a good idea! Next time to Hanmer, we hope to find a good room in anot...

Hi Don,

Thanks for your comments.

We are sorry that you had a bad experience. Please note that we the owners have now taken over the running of the complex. We are renovating the complex and hope that we have the pleasure of you staying with us again sometime to give us the opportunity to show you some real Kiwi hospitality , the way it should have been.

Pretty good place to stay. This is the second time I have stayed. Rooms are clean and location cant be beat! Nice and quiet just off the main street. Because its a motel there is no breakfast however we walked 5 mins up the road to the buffet at the heritage! Reception provides extra pool towels.

We stayed here for a girls break away when the culverden fete was on. The unit had everything we needed and was nice and quiet. When we got back from shopping on day 1 we arrived to find freshly baked muffins that the owner had left for us and after we came back from the fete the cleaner had thoughtfully out our wet togs that we had put on an air rack outside to dry in the sun. They really go the extra mile here.
