“Great find after a long drive.”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

After a long nail-biting drive through winding mountain roads we landed at Hot Springs Motor Lodge. A great little find. We had a one bedroom with no particular view, which we knew at the time of booking. The bathroom was huge, and the bed comfortable. Our daughter and her family had a two bedroom with breathtaking views. The managers of the property were extremely helpful with directions to the Hot Springs (just up the street) and gave us towels to take with us. They also told us about the restaurant at the hotel next door so that we could get dinner for the kids when we got back from the hot springs. As we were packing the van to leave the manager came out to make sure we had everything we needed for the trip ahead. I felt like I was in a Bed and Breakfast....just without the homemade breakfast. If we are in Hanmer again this will be where we stay.

We spent just one night at the Hot Springs Motor Lodge but wished it could have been for more. We had an amazing 2-bedroom unit on the upper floor with amazing views of the mountains. We arrived in the evening after a long scenic drive from Nelson and our hosts were fabulous. They provided us with all the information about the Hot Springs so that we could make it to the pools before they closed and provided us with towels. Our son ended up with a nose bleed during the night we stayed and our hosts were so kind and understanding about the extra clean-up required. And then as we left for another long day of driving we asked about the closest place to acquire some ice. Instead of directions they handed over some ice packs and just asked that we pay it forward. It was such a kind gesture and so appreciated. I can't say enough nice things about the Hot Springs Motor Lodge. Whenever we are in Hanmer Springs we'll be staying there!

We stayed at the Hot Springs Motor Lodge for one night and in a 2 week trip where we stayed in 9 different places this was our favourite place to stay. We were in an upstairs room with a beautiful view west towards the mountains. The room was very comfortable and quiet and the bathroom was quite large. No facilities for self catering but there are a few dining options in town. Also getting the towels to use at the Hot Springs was a nice touch. The host was also very friendly and welcoming and she was happy to give travel advice and answer my questions about the area. Would have been happy to stay longer.

Room Tip: If you want a view upstairs room facing West - if you have heavy cases though you may want the downs...

It was our first night in New Zealand. Our room was comfortable, reasonably priced and close to most things. The staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: Stay away from hotels and night clubs.

I arrived last week. Generally the feel was good. The motel is clean and new looking. The room is very spacious. More importantly, the motel comes with free internet.
Location is 5 mins drive to the town centre.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. They even provide extra towel for us incase we are going to the thermal spa.

No regret.

I booked a standard room for $125 on Wotif and on arrival we were upgraded to a room with a spa bath - great!
The host was really friendly and helpful, the room was clean and had everything you needed, I was so happy with my choice I was going to recommend it to everyone I knew!
The only downside was the bathroom heater that wasn't working, with no underfloor heating and snow outside, the bathroom was a bit on the chilly side.
Also the only heater in the whole room was on a one hour timer, which is a good idea but you can't have it coming on during the night (which was cold!)
Anyway on our way home to shaky Christchurch the next day I realised I hadn't put my watch and pandora bracelet back on after taking them off to enjoy the spa bath the night before. We pulled over and I quickly rang the motor lodge to see if they could find them - the host asked the cleaner who said he hadn't seen them.
We decided to go back and have a look as the only time we'd left the room after I took them off was when we checked out that morning. They weren't in the room, and not in the washing the host helped us look through.... We checked everywhere when we got home, tipped the bags upside down, searched the car and to no avail,
After this unfortunate disappearance I'd be reluctant to stay again.

Friendly welcome ,paper work all done in a few seconds .We liked the really spacious rooms with a lovely mountain view towards Conical Hill and Mount Isobel .The room was nice and clean well set up and big beds with lovely crisp clean sheets and pillowcases .Having been regular visitors to Hanmer we know how cold it can get at night so we really appreciated the warm room .The thermal pools are a refreshing five minute stroll down the road .This lodge has its own resteraunt with good food at a reasonable price .The resteraunt is nicely tucked away from the accomadation so peaceful sleep was no problem .We were looking for a place where we could park up and relax ,Hot Springs Motor Lodge was the ideal place .Just one thing that could improve the resteraunt ,the wine list was pretty uninspiring ,more featured local Waipara wines would improve the dining experience

Room Tip: Get an upstairs room to really appreciate the view
