Impecable service, delicious food, fantastic wine (and other drinks).. designed for those who love to share- but also caters to those who prefer their own.
LOVED Malabar 100% recommend as the place to eat in Hanmer. Do not be put off if the first time you walk past it looks quiet.. this place fills fast and locals are dropping in constantly for take out.

We dined here during a busy long weekend in nz. We left it late in the day to book and could only get a table for 845pm. It was well worth the wait. The menu is creative and while they do many of the Indian favourites, they put their own spin on the food. Would recommend leaving room for dessert.

We did a takeaway from here. The food was very good, the rotis and Naan swere soft, chicken and mutton dises were very tasty. In fact they were the most authentic Indian food we had in New Zealand amongst the 3 or 4 other Indian meal we had in different parts of New Zealand during our 3 week holiday of south island.

Walked in to a welcoming smile, ambience was a warm and cosy feel. The restaurant has plenty of room to move about and doesnt have that packed in feel.
Our hostess and waiter Mandeep was ever so attentive and excellent customer service.
Its great to see uniforms nicely pressed and looking professional.
They were starting to get busy yet still felt like you were the only table they were serving.
Now the meal....Wow we had pan seared scollaps with sticky pork belly to start, this was so tender and nicely cooked with a matching sauce that was very tasty.
I had the crispy duck with ginger stir fry which was beautifully cooked, ever so tender. My partner had the spiced pork belly which melted in his mouth and beautifully cooked.
Off course we had the creme Brule which had that perfect sound that you hear when your spoon goes through. To end the night perfect short blk.
Thankyou Mandeep and the lady hostess for a fabulous evening one we will tell others about.
It was exquisite, magnific, memorable...We will be back without a doubt.
