“Buyer Beware -- No refund if you change your mind!”
Reviewed 2 November 2008

Ok, full disclosure... we did not actually stay here, but we did have a bad experience with this hotel, and they happily took our money, for which we got nothing in return (except for a headache).

We had originally booked this hotel to stay there for 3 nights in August. I was VERY excited about staying at this hotel, as the reviews for it on TripAdvisor made it sound exclusive, private and very special. So it was intended to be our "amazing hotel experience in the Seychelles."

Seven months in advance (because the hotel gets fully booked very quickly) we booked 2 rooms in the the hotel for 3 nights, a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I believe. We paid a deposit to the hotel of about $1,200 to reserve these rooms. However, not long after booking the rooms, we had a schedule change. We still wanted to stay at this hotel, but now we needed to get the rooms for a Thursday (already booked), Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, by then (a full FIVE MONTHS ahead of our arrival), the hotel was already sold out, and we could not get the rooms for the Friday and the Saturday. We had the Thursday night alright, as that was already booked, BUT the hotel has a 2-night minimum stay policy. So we couldn't use that Thursday night! The hotel informed us that in the unlikely event that 2 rooms on Friday and Saturday opened up, we could stay here, but in any event they were KEEPING our $1,200 deposit ... and this was a full FIVE MONTHS ahead of our arrival! Yes, you read that correctly.

We went back to our travel agent and checked, and he told us, yes, there was some fine print about the hotel that said that they would keep our deposit no matter what. We did (through our travel agent) try to get the deposit back, but it was useless. We presume that, as popular as this hotel is, "our" paid-for rooms were sold to someone else, but we still had to pay for it. So, in essence, the hotel raked in double fees because of our schedule change. Outrageous!

We ended up staying at La Reserve instead, and had no real problems with that hotel.

SO: BUYER BEWARE!!!! Check all the fine print before booking at this hotel, and don't make any schedule changes!

This hotel was the perfect start to our honeymoon. We stayed here for 5 night and loved every minute. The only issue was the breakfast, which was the same every morning and always over cooked.
The setting was amazing. We had the junior sweet which had a private jucuzzi. This place is not cheap, but if money allows please stay here.
Also, a word of advice. Go upto the hilltop jucuzzi at night. Sitting in it looking at the stars was truely amazing.

We stayed at Chateau de Feuilles for a week. The property is beautiful with wonderful views and our room was a good size. Also, the wait staff were incredibly friendly. The managers were not as friendly, but courteous.

Our main problem with the hotel was price. We opted for the full board, which meant that for breakfast we were given toast/croissants a small cup of fresh chopped fruit, and coffee or tea. That's it, no eggs, no meat, not even cereal. Dinner was good, although it got to be monotonous over time. I enjoy seafood and was looking forward to having it every night, but my husband got bored with the predictability of the food. Even for an overpriced island like the Seychelles, we were surprised at what little we got for the price we paid. Every night for dinner we had to pay for water, even when we asked if we could have tap. My husband had a few items of clothes washed-mostly underwear- and the bill came to about 50 Euros. One day, we were going to La Digue and were offered a ride to the port. We were very surprised upon check-out to learn that the friendly ride cost us 10 bucks!

We spent a week in Chateau de Feuilles during march 2008. The hotel is in a marvellous position: it is not the usual property in front of a beach, but the hotel is on top of a hill offering I think the best landscape you can have in seychelles, something you can really enjoy every day at sunset time. The restaurant is above average, a nice french cuisine mixed with creole ingredients. It is clearly focused on seafood, but what can you expect from a small island? We spent 7 nights and every evening the menu was different. Carefully selected wine list. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. The hotel is also in a strategic position if you want to visit other islands, because the ferry dock is 5 minutes by car (by the way, the hotel offers a free of charge renatl service). Really a good choice.

We stayed at Chateau de Feuilles for 8 nights in October, 2007 for our honeymoon. I understand where the recent negative comments below are coming from - the food sometimes lacks creativity (fish, fish, fish...) and is strangely pretty awful only on saturday evenings (chef day off?), no access to beach from hotel, the worst checkout policy (10.30am no matter what) etc. BUT I would still give this hotel 10/10. We stayed at 2 different rooms as we went to another hotel in the middle of our stay in Praslin (La Reserve may be well located but doesn't compare with Chateau de Feuilles in any way whatsoever. The food, in particular, is pretty awful there) and must say that the best room at Chateau is room number 9 (I think this is the one - it's the only room that has views of two different sides of the ocean), while the room above reception hall can lack privacy with all the commotion going on downstairs.

Staying at Chateau was an absolute magical experience for us. The views from room 9 is breath-taking. I admired the sunrise from one of the balconies every morning. It was so peaceful all day, you hardly see other guests wondering around. Service was impeccable (apart from when confronted about the checkout policy) - Harry the F&B manager was superb. Attention to detail was impressive. Free car rental was much-needed (and appreciated - they don't come cheap) and although heavily fish-oriented, my husband and I found the food totally delightful, especially the desserts, which were heavenly. The trip to the sister islands was one of the highlights of our stay - we spotted a whaleshark on our way there!! It was really amazing snorkelling next to the humongous creature. The beach on the back of the island must be the best beach ever.....

All in all, if you're expecting a Intercon/Four Seasons type of stay, give this one a miss. (Lemuria is great for that) But if you want more of an intimate and private stay in absolutely beautiful surroundings with personal service, Chateau de Feuilles is really a winner.
It was really a piece of Paradise for us. We hope to return for one of our future anniversaries.

PS The owner's doggie Mugley is so adorable!!! she wonders around and naps at the reception area all day..

we choose this hotel because it is small and seemed to me different from the other ones. We stayed for 4 nights.
We liked:
the dinner: was cooked simply, and pletiful, but not spicy enough. We were served the same fish two nights in a row, which was boring.
the view: breathtaking
The room was pleasant, but not that big
the excursion to the nearby island: only the guests from the hotel go, it is the best day we had

We did not like:
the curtains in the room to seperate the bathroom from the bedroom. It looked cheap.
the breakfast: a SHAME for the ranking of this hotel. Dried toast, only 1 glass of orance juice, tinned marmelade (come on, there are so many fruits they could do home made!!!) and that was about it. All the rest, you had to pay for, including a platter of fresh fruit, which considering where you are is a shame. We were served the same fruit salad every day, which was so sweet we thought some fruits came from canned tins.
The room did not feel like a "suite" that much because it was not that big.

Conclusion: we went to get a first class intimate service, which we did not get, considering the price we paid, i will next time go to LA Reserve (very well located) or go back to the Hilton Mahé, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.

I initially made contact with the hotel to see if they could accomodate my situation, I had only 2 nights on Praslin and wanted to stay here, despite their 3 night minimum rule. They were soo accomodating!
We took the Cat-Coco back and forth from Mahe, which, provided you don't get seasick, is much cheaper than flying, and drops you off less than a 5 minute taxi-ride from the hotel.
We arrived at the Chateaux and were greeted promptly, told to leave our luggage just where it was, and head up to the reception area. Checkin was quick, and then the tour began. The views from this property are absolutely incredible!
We stayed in a superior bungalow, which, despite the photo on the website, does not have it's own outdoor jacuzzi. Apparently ONE of them does, but we didn't see it. Everything you need is in the room (except a corkscrew), like slippers and bathrobes, cd player, bath salts and incense, although the tub could have been bigger, as it didn't accomodate two!
There are only 8 rooms to this hotel, which means all couples seeking romance. It was wonderful, but don't get your hopes up too high for meeting people and chatting it up before/after dinner.
The food is fantastic! Absolutely delicious. And the dinner experience is very romantic, so much so that my boyfriend found it the perfect time to propose! Wine is decently priced, but cocktails are ridiculously expensive (ie. 14-19 Euros EACH for 1oz). And you pay 4 Euros for a bottle of still water. Breakfast is very typically French, carbs and jam, tea/coffee/juice. Anything else will cost you.
Went up to the jacuzzi with the nice view after dinner and luckily the rooms have a flashlight, or you wouldn't see anything at all! Save this trip for the daytime. We never saw anyone in the pool.
The trip to the private island was not all it's cracked up to be, despite being our deciding factor in choosing this hotel. There is a beach on either side of island, with short spells of sand, but then it is very, very rocky and doesn't get any better. We saw (and experienced) numerous war scars from snorkelling. It is very shallow, (ie. you could float and still touch the rocks with your hand even 35m out) although you do see alot of beautiful fish. We even swam with a sea turtle! There is NO swimming/frolicking on this island. But it is a great place to see the giant land tortoises and various types of crab. The bbq lunch was wonderful.
This hotel has no beach. Don't let the website fool you. Do not miss Anse Lazio, or the restaurant there called Bonbon Plume (order the grilled fish!) The free rental car comes in handy!
All in all, we have no complaints about this hotel, except that we expected a beach, and more elegance/luxury for the price tag.
