Excellent service and hospitality. Built about 4 years ago on a British colonial theme it is bright clean and modern unlike some of the tired resorts nearby. The staff were knowledgable and very attentive to all our needs and were helpful in organising restaurant bookings and giving information about the local activities etc.The food was excellent - we had a BBQ on the night of our arrival where every type of meat and seafood was available. The breakfast buffet was amazing. There were no water sports despite being situated on the beach(public). The pool however was excellent. I recommend car hire and this brings all activities within a short drive particularly the beach at Cenang where multiple water activities and restaurants are available. My wife and I had a wonderful 4 days and would certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Sea view room is preferable (but more expensive)

After 2 weeks travelling in Malaysia staying at mostly 5 star accommodation, this was the best. We couldn't fault the service and facilities. While experience the slow service at lunch one day, the overall experience was not diminished. Also we did notice the jackhammering in the distance but again it was nothing when relaxing around the fantastic pool where the service of towels, water, food was amazing. We chose the location deliberately as we did not want to be in the "centre" of the action but wanted just .a few restaurants and shops close by It was the perfect place to relax after a busy touring holiday.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the harbour is well worth the extra money. Memorable.

Everything about this hotel is first class, from the overall design to the furniture and furnishings of the lobby, lounges, bars and restaurants. The bedrooms are also beautifully decorated with generous balconies and great views. We stayed in a Marina view room which had a huge balcony, daybed, table and chairs and a great view, although I'm sure that all rooms in this hotel are of a more than acceptable standard!
The standard of service is very high and there is a high staff to guest ratio. This is the first hotel we've stayed in where there is a poolside sunglasses-cleaning service and a samosa or spring roll delivered to your sun-lounger at precisely 4pm. There is also complimentary bottled water available any time of day from any bar/restaurant.
Breakfast was amazing, and you have the option to end the meal with a glass of sparkling wine, which we did most days.
Our flight out of Langkawi was not until 7.40pm and usual check out time is 12pm however we were able to book a courtesy room for 1.5 hours late in the day in order to shower and change before departure and the hotel took care of our luggage in the interim. Checkout was efficient, as you would expect!
The beach was not as fabulous but it does not belong to the hotel as all beaches in Langkawi are public, having said that there were hotel staff trying to keep it as tidy as possible each day.

This was our first time to the Danna but our second visit to Langkawi (the first was almost 6 years ago) and we were pleased to see that overall the island hadn't changed much, given that there is a significant amount of jungle and lots of interesting animals and birds to spot. However, during our recent stay we were quite alarmed to find out that significant plans are afoot to redevelop the area that the Danna is situated including a dolphinarium (what?!) making it much more "like Phuket or Bali" - according to the press release- and therefore more 'touristy' and to attract more European and affluent Chinese guests. Whilst the local area (the marina) might benefit from a wider variety of similarly high quality bars and restaurants such a massive development (4bn Ringitts) is likely to irretrievably spoil this part of the island.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are good for sunsets.

I stayed here with my wife for 3 nights at the end of March. I chose this property based on the numerous positive reviews on TripAdvisor.

Overall impression of the hotel is excellent, very clean and feels very rich in terms of the architecture, etc. However, I felt the service fell short of 5 star properties. The staff lacks knowledge and at times professionalism. They seem to have employed trainees that don't have much information about the things to do around the hotel. I for one asked about outdoor adventures, i.e. para-sailing, etc. and the concierge only told me about the ones offered by the hotel and they weren't attractive to me. I asked if he can recommend any other companies and he bluntly said that's all that's around. Which was a lie as there is a Naam office just outside the hotel which offers all the excursions. This experience left a very negative impression as they only want you to use the services offered by the hotel partners.

Another negative was the fact the hotel only has one restaurant. If you are staying for a couple of nights, you can only eat at the one restaurant, Planters. There are a few restaurants just outside the hotel, but for such a highly ranked hotel, it lacked things to do within.

Do more research around the area. Something which I didn't do and suffered later as there is absolutely nothing to do around the area this hotel is situated. All the happening activities are south of the airport.

Overall good property, poor service for the price you pay.

Room Tip: Sea view room is excellent!

One of the best hotels I have stayed at in the world..... And I've stayed at a lot! The Malaysians are not typically known for their impeccable hospitality, but the Danna is certainly an exception to this. The hotel has wonderful rooms, great views of surrounding sea and rain forests and are clean and tidy. The staff go that extra mile to ensure guests are comfortable and wanting for absolutely nothing. I would come back in a heart beat and would recommend this hotel highly!!!

Room Tip: Face the pool at the rear of hotel if you can.....views to die for!!

We have just got home from 10 wonderful nights at this amazing hotel . The hotel is a beautiful grand colonial building . On arrival we had lovely warm welcome with a complimentary neck and shoulder massage , which was so good . We were very lucky to have a room upgrade to a sea view room on the 4th floor , views were amazing . Breakfast is very good and listening to the piano being played is so nice , we really enjoyed this , as it was my birthday while we were here to my surprise the staff sang happy birthday to me and and gave me a chocolate cake even the lovely chef came to say happy birthday amazing .not only that but when we went to the room it had been decorated with balloons , there was also a bottle of wine and chocolates I was so spoilt , a very big thank you to everyone for making my birthday so memorable will never forget it . The pool boys work hard , giving bottles of water , throughout the day they give fruit and snacks which were lovely . We had two lovely meals at the planters restaurant both were excellent , one was my birthday and they made it very special with a surprise desert cooked at the table , thank you so much for that .it was so lovely .there are two happy hours one at the pool bar 1700hrs till 1900hrs then at the verandah bar from 1900hrs till 2100hrs . This is a stunning hotel with the most helpful and friendly staff we have ever experienced.
The whole experience was relaxing and rewarding.
On arrival we were offered a head and shoulder massage while we waited to check in, we were then given a guided tour of the hotel, before being shown to our room. Whilst sitting by the pool each day we were offered free water and our sun glasses cleaned. There were occassional offerings of fresh fruit drinks to supplement the beverages sold at the pool bar.
All the staff were friendly and keen to assist. One of our waiters obtained the recipe of one meal we particularly liked and then explained some of the local ingredient, with the help of google. All in all this leaves a lasting memory of a wonderful hotel, that we will recommend to all our friends

Room Tip: The water front or Harbour views are the best
