The steak was a rib eye from a Belted Galloway, from a farm about two miles away, cooked very well, tender and succulent. There was a choice of of steaks from two different local farms, rabbit and pigeon. Even thought it was a wet Thursdays in November they were full of people having food, including 20 plus party having Yes, you’ve guest it “STEAKS” The Star Inn has a very good repetition for Good Beer and Cider and food, their approach to sourcing local produce is excellent. In fact, I have not enjoyed a steak of that quality for a long time.

Visited The Star in Talybont on Halloween night 2014. Even though the place was fully booked, and very busy, they squeezed us in (and the dog!). Food is very tasty (great meat) with plenty of game options. I had the steak which was great and cooked to perfection - the onion rings were clearly homemade and fantastic. My husband had Rabbit Tagliatelle which was also lovely.
Good beers and ciders. The place was full of locals, walkers and narrow-boaters and their dogs. And everyone had a great time chatting to each other as we were all 'cheek by jowl' but in a good way. Really friendly and efficient staff. All round, excellent village pub that is as it should be. Not fancy, not 'gastro' - just really good, honest food, drinks and service. Great to see it can still be done.

We had dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a proper pub, not prettified in any way but full of locals who obviously come here regularly and it's very easy to see why. A great selection of cask ales (which I couldn't have as I was driving), and very friendly service. The food was delicious, very good Stilton and broccoli soup and baked mushrooms to start then venison steak and chicken breast stuffed with sausage and black pudding with a delicious cider sauce for main courses. The food was seasoned wonderfully and presented simply but elegantly. The only sadness was the half hour wait for puddings, but at least they told us rather than keep us waiting. All in all, a great little place!!

Visited the star inn whilst on a canal boat holiday with the family!
Excellent food and well worth the money! And a great atmosphere of locals, tourists and many more. Would recommend!
We had starters and main meals and both were of good standard!

Stayed in Talybont for one night and was directed to the Star by the owner of the B&B I stayed at (the Malt House - also excellent). Even on a Tuesday evening (albeit at high season, but only just) it was nearly full. Most customers were diners and probably tourists, but the ineffable magic of a pub with actual *regulars* in it was there. I was welcomed in friendly conversation at the bar. My meal arrived promptly and was delicious. I tried one of each of the ales on offer (had walked a long way that day and deserved a treat!) and every pint was perfect. A long chat with the landlord and landlady revealed just why this pub is so popular: a more hard-working couple, committed to the highest standards, you simply could not meet. A mention should also go to the barman who was working: great personality and presence for a young lad.

The Star Inn and the people who run it and work there are a credit to the British pub industry of which I am proud to be a part.

Went for a day out as I'd heard this area had lovely views . Found it finally due to Sat Nav mess up ! Found it very welcoming. Not a huge menu but something for most people. Sat in the beer garden , we had lovely weather and you can here the trickling of the canal in the background which made it quite relaxing ! We didn't take our dog but we wished we had as it was very dog friendly pub. We all had food , my daughter and husband the steak Ciabatta and myself the bacon and Brie . Have to say we all have never tasted such gorgeous bread . Meant to ask where they got it from ! Snack meals were about £6 and bigger meals £10 . Lots of different ales for the beer lover . Will def be going again as planning to hire boat on do the brecon canal .
