“The worst hotel I've ever stayed in.”
Reviewed 23 March 2013

Went to Lambert's Bay for the Crayfish Festival. What a misnomer, the only crayfish were pre cooked and being reheated on a braii. Really not worth the drive.
The hotel was pretty grim, the room smelt of damp and the bed smelt of a previous occupant!
The only slightly redeeming thing was the reception staff who were on the whole pretty helpful. Not a place I'd go back to.

Room Tip: Don 't go there.

We just happened to find this hotel on our way up the West Coast - not knowing what accommodation to expect in this town and as it was getting late we decided to take our chances on this hotel - but only if it looked acceptable and clean. On walking in I was struck by the friendliness of the staff in the reception area. Sea facing rooms had already been taken by a group of German tourists but we were offered a family room which faced a courtyard with pool and a childrens play area, Our room was clean and pleasant and the bathroom had recently been modernised. We lacked for nothing, tv, coffee/tea etc, small bottles of wine, chocs - in all we were very comfortable, had a good dinner at the hotel that night and an excellent breakfast in the morning. As it was out of season the rate was really good - they have very good specials during winter months up to end Nov. This was the only hotel that I know that has 'batchelor' rooms (4)- single bed and en suite bathroom - and this is also extremely good value - nice for tourists who dont want to share and dont wont to have to pay a single supplement.- In all a very pleasant stop over and can see why it is so popular with groups

Every so often we travel up the West Coast to see the flowers. Unfortunately this year was a bit rained out, but arriving at the hotel is always a pleasure. Reception handled our group quickly, and offered a sherry on arrival. Nice touch. The rooms are adequate and and fitted out with TV, coffee/tea, biscuits, and the usual toiletries. Fortunately each room has a heater, as it was rather chilly when we arrived. They offered secure parking for our cars. Breakfast was quite a good spread, including freash fruit, muffins and local jams, along with assorted eggs, and freashly prepared accompanyments.

Room Tip: Some of the front rooms are bigger, but also face towards the smelly factory and bird Island

We recently spent three weeks touring South Africa on two motorcycles and our first night out of Somerset West was spent in Lambert's Bay. The hotel is centrally situated and within walking distance of the beach, some excellent restaurants, banking facilities, and the local Spar.

The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our room situated off the courtyard at the rear of the hotel was spacious and very comfortable.

Breakfast was relaxed and of good quality. Both my husband I would like to explore the West Coast of the Western Cape a little more and will be back!

Room Tip: Our room off the swimming pool courtyard was lovely and quiet.

I recently stayed at Lambert's Bay Hotel for two nights at the conclusion of a five-week trip throughout South Africa. I chose the hotel because of the recommendation in Lonely Planet. They describe the hotel and its staff as "friendly" and that is by far the best way to describe the Lambert's Bay Hotel. Situatied almost on top of the waterfront, this hotel is a fine choice for accomodation while in this part of South Africa. I traveled to Lambert's Bay to visit the large (17,000 pairs) nesting colony of Cape Gannets on nearby Bird Island. You can see the birds from the front steps of the hotel! I stayed in room 2 and would recommend that you ask for this room. My bed and breakfast rate was 500 Rand per night which was a real bargain. I did not eat dinner in their restaurant (went to Isabella's on the waterfront instead) but enjoyed sitting around in Die Anker bar at the hotel watching rugby and chatting with other rugby fans. The staff here was among the most knowledgable and helpful I encountered anywhere in South Africa. On the return leg of my journey home I had a 11:00 a.m. departure from the Cape Town airport. Various estimates from people in town suggested that it would be 4.5 to 5 hours from Lamberts Bay to the airport (it took 2 hours 20 minutes!) so I left at 5:00 a.m. Because of my early departure the hotel had a take away breakfast waiting for me on the front counter when I departed. There was enough food in that container to feed a horse. However I think to the management of this fine hotel it was just another way to take care of their guests. Were I ever to return to the Lambert's Bay area I would stay at the Lambert's Bay Hotel and do so without hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask for room 2 if its available.

Stayed 1 night as part of a tour. This hotel is ancient, but it provided us with everything we needed for a comfortable night. The one problem we had was that the water has a tendancy to be brownish for a while, it seems to be due to the overall water system in Lamberts Bay. Well, this is what we were told, it did not give us much of a headache though. We did not have diner in the hotel but at the beach in the Muisbosskerm. An open air restaurant, with very good seafood, forget knife and fork. You are expected to use both hands and maybe a clamshell. Great fun. Geat sunset too.
