“Perfect Location & one can't ask for more, from a Government Hotel”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Hello Travellers,

I stayed at KSTDC Mayura Valley, on 28th/29th June. Visited this place with my wife and 4friends and stayed in the ground floor rooms. Enough has already been reviewed and noted down by other travellers regarding the perfect view this place has got. It is indeed the best that one would find in Madikeri and let me not elaborate any further. Regarding the stay, we loved every bit of it and the view from ground floor rooms is nothing to be complaining about. The staff is extremely friendly and they do pay attention to whatever you say or ask for.

Food:
I have had read several reviews by other travellers regarding the not so good food they have had, but we tried the dinner once and Trust Me it was GOOD ENOUGH, both for vegetarian and non-vegetarain people.
The breakfast was simple and is easy for your tummy. Though they also have options of Bread-Omlet etc, which are charged seperately. Absolutely no complaints regarding the food, whatsoever.

Room(s) & Room Service:
This too was very good indeed. They cleaned the 2rooms (out of 3, that we booked) in quick 30mins keeping clean bed linens/blankets and towels for the bathroom, while we were having chit-chat in the 3rd room. Rooms were decently big enough with ample space. The huge wall size glass window makes the room look fairly big with good air circulation. We booked the normal double rooms (non-ac), as we knew we wouldn't really need an AC, when visiting Madikeri in monsoon. Hot water is available all the time in the bathroom.

Hotel Premises is neat, decently decorated and is maintained well. Ample parking space is also available. No hassles in Check-in/Check-out either.

It was a very good experience for us, staying at Mayura Valley and this place is definitely recommended.

Cheers,
Shubbu.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor, would certainly have a bit better view and better privacy. However the rooms o...

We had a wonderful 3 days stay at Vally view hotel, trust me this is real valley view hotel and i guess highest point in Coorg. Near to Raja's Seat one of attractions. Overall stay is good rooms are spacious and clean. You don't need a A/C room trust me.Make sure you ask for 1st floor room above reception. For some of things like extra towels and Mosquito repellent you need to ask reception. Breakfast is complementary but only for 2 and its same everyday no change so you may want try out some other places. I highly recommend this for family and friends.

Room Tip: View from first floor room is excellent

I dont think there is a better located hotel in Madikeri. Being a government hotel, they have the best location as compared to any other hotel. It is on a higher altitude than Raja Seat, which the king created for himself to have a look at the valley hence the hotel has an excellent view. With regards the services, food is not anything above average and one should give it a skip. While the breakfast is included in the room rent, I will recommend that you eat it outside, they dont even serve bread or milk in breakfast and you cant have idli everyday.
I had to wait for my checkin, the person at the reception was missing and came back while i was about to enter the manager's room however there is a younger guy, who is good and works faster than the other staff.
Rooms are newly renovated and are generally clean, I was disappointed with paint marks left on tv plugs and other stuff which makes it ugly. Rest rooms are clean, THANK YOU KSTDC for that hence one can stay a night here.

Room Tip: Try for hotel on the first floor for better view. While the ones on the ground floor are not bad, fi...

Restaurant staff is not very courteous but overall nice experience.Hot water available 24 hours. Location to town is very central and you can get commute very easily to go anywhere..Just 5 mins from Raja's Seat.

We were in Coorg for two days 6th & 7th June. The view was great & the room was quite big (AC Deluxe). Market is on 20 mins walk. You can get auto rickshaw from Raja's seat. But at night time after 9pm they take return fare. You have to book an auto if you are going out late night.
We booked an auto in the market place and asked him to come at 10.30pm to the hotel as our bus was at 11.15pm. But we were shocked, his phone was unreachable continuously. Then we called up another ph no.given by our guide (Jyothi) and to our surprise this person came within 5 mins. Thank god! Otherwise it will be very difficult to reach at the bus stand with two heavy bags.
Food was ok. The restaurant opens at 8 am before that you cannot get tea! The price for the food is ok. But they take 50 RS. for one cup of tea/ coffee!!! In other KSTDC hotels in Hampi & Mysore they charge only 20 RS. There was a electric kettle & cups given in the room but not the tea bags. When I asked the tea bags the reception person told me that the kettle is for hot water to drink. Ha! Ha! Ha!
.
But otherwise a good hotel with a great view.

We had a vacation with our extended family from May 28th to May 30th. The winning point for this property is of course the location which offers excellent views of the valley(the rooms on top of the resturant especially which we didnt get!) The rooms are pretty spacious and the bathrooms very well maintained. The downside of this place is the service or rather the lack of it. We checked in around 5 pm and asked for a cup of tea from the room service only to be told that it is dinner time!!! The other challenge is there are no elevators so better opt for ground floor rooms but then the restaurant itself is on the first floor especially if you have to approach it from the new wing. The place is perfect if all you need is a place to spend the night and then head out for sight seeing. The breakfast is complimentary with a limited menu of any three items. No buffet spread. But all said and done for the tarrif it is quite a paisa vasool.

Stayed in the place for a day (8th June - Sunday). We thought of booking the room in advance but thought we will go and check out the place first. The climate was pleasantly cool on the day and hence we opted for the Non-AC Executive Double Room (Rs 2400/- inclusive of all taxes). The rooms on the 1st floor were unavailable and hence we had to opt for the ground floor room. The room was quite spacious, clean and offered excellent views. The bathroom had geyser for hot water. Apparently none of the rooms (including the more expensive ones) had any balcony. However all the rooms had the windows open to the valley outside. The restaurant only serves the normal Indian and Chinese stuff and no local Kodava cuisine and also was a little expensive. The complimentary breakfast that they serve is no good. They only had idly and poha. Other stuff in the breakfast menu needs to be paid for.

For local cuisine there is a place called Coorg Cuisine (+91 9449699864 and +91 9480208933) which we wanted to try out after watching an episone of "Will Travel for Food" on NDTV but it was closed that Sunday and also Monday morning. We searched the entire market area and could not find any eatery serving the local cuisine.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms had excellent views but they lacked privacy. If available would recommend roo...
