A wonderful place to escape from the heat and hussle and bussle of Delhi. We came in August and everything was shrouded in mist and cloud adding a wonderful atmosphere. The suite was very nice and large and had a fireplace. We did not check the temperature before going and we were a little cold and this was a good excuse to use the fire however we didn't sit around it. The walks in the surrounding rainforests and clouds were beautiful and the naturalist very knowledgeable. My husband, daughter and I had a incredible massages and could have kept having them.

The pools are well located and while we only used the heated pool with the great view in warmer weather the large pool down in the valley would a good place to hang out.

My only points are that water was already coming up through the floorboards and as the hut was high off the ground this suggests structural leaks, we also noticed water damage on a number of the walls so the great design might be ruined if the place is not maintained, the place is only a year or 2 old. Also our barfridge was not restocked over the 4 nights we were there and we had to request this each day. A great place to spend time doing nothing but walks, swims and taking it easy.

We stayed there from 15th August - 17th August, in one of their Deluxe rooms. It is a very spacious room and has the best view. We were received by 'Sony' who was helpful in showing us around the Taj property and you will find Mr.Krishan Kant (GM), always happy to help you (if reqd) and in positive mood.

We made sure that we trekked around the huge 180 acre property every morning, one word "Amazing".

We got excellent weather i.e. light showers, good mist and cloudy (personal favourite), which made the stay more beautiful.

Room Tip: The approach road to the property is not good, about 350 meters of road that passes through the gold course is bad after that the rest of the road is perfect, no issues at all.

Madikeri landscape (rain forest) along with the rain will appeal to many nature enthusiasts.
Just bear the last few kms drive to the resort (dramamine would work wonders) and it will be forgotten while in the resort.

Wonderful experience overall. Loved the lobby, view, the design...

Staff fantastic all around, with travel desk being the only issue. My request for airport transfers (I needed 4 cars) was responded to after repeated requests and I had booked elsewhere by the time.

Ferntree staff handled our elders' requests well, particularly Asisha and Pankaj. Sujay and Gautam were helpful too. Dew food was just ok. Garima did come out and chat with us a little bit but our expectations could have been set if the chat was before the food was ordered.

Nature walk with Naveen was very informative..loved it even in the pouring rain. Naveen won the stare down with a buffalo during the walk.

PV1 was very good. The condensation issue in the room needs to be fixed somehow, the sight of water all around the walls by the pool and the living/dining area was a cause for concern especially with water over electric fixtures. Lighting could be brighter in the lobby and rooms..I needed wifi on 2 cells and a laptop, had to pay extra for the laptop.

The reception staff along with buggy drivers were excellent.

For a 5+ star hotel, food taste was mediocre..but there were many choices and staff will accommodate any special requests. Thanks for the free sandwiches for the drive back..

Plenty of options in the spa and courteous staff. Our family said the pottery studio was fun.

Swimming pools (in the villa and infinity) are spectacular..hot tub was just ok..but swimming in the pool with splashing rain outside was bliss.

We liked Abbey falls...a lot of water during this season.

Will recommend and stay again.

We were travelling to the Taj the Coorg. The resort is nicely hidden inside a sprawling rainforest bordering the forest and surrounded by mountain peaks...greenery all around. All you can hear in the evening is the noise of crickets and Cicadas and during the day chirping of birds. They have electric buggies to drive the guests around the resort( when it got very busy I did see a car, hopes that’s just a one off. The buggy driver Harish walked the us through the facilities and activities in the resort . The restaurant just like the lobby is wonderfully designed with a fantastic view. These are something’s that have to be seen to believe...this resort compares to some of the best in the world Well prepared delicious food served with love by the staff enhances the experience.Don’t need to say much about the food when it comes to the TAJ. Its was great. Chef Ali took great care of us and Pabitra was a excellent waiter.
For us what made this property extremely different from others were the walks with Mr ABHISHEK, the resident naturalist. We have to thank the GM Mr Agarwal who highly recommended the walks and pushed us to go for one walk. We learnt more from Abhishek in a couple of walks then what we had learned in a few years at collage. The way he explains life in the rainforest is just MIND-BLOWING. Every question was answered in great detail in layman terms. He took great care about the leaches so that we could enjoy the forest instead of looking out for leaches. He also told us about the owner of the property (Mr Pramod I think) and how interested he is in preserving and conserving the forest. We were provided with fantastic gum boots and leach socks for the walks. After our walk with him we decided to ask him to plan out our itinerary for us, which he did beautifully. One thing that he suggested to us was to go and visit the in house conservatory that is looked after by Mr Muthana. Abhishek told us that it was a must see.Mr Muthana is another fantastic person at the property. We learnt a lot about Coorg and its history from him. Thanks to him we now know a lot about Coorg.
Looking forward to visiting again in October. Abhishek says it’s the best time to see the forest in a different avatar.
Tip: make sure to go on a walk with Abhishek.

Room Tip: The Series rooms have a great view.

Dear Guest

On behalf of the entire team here , I wish to express my gratitude for your appreciation. Sapna is also very thankful to you for your appreciation.

It has given us a reaffirmation that our private Eden in this breathing rainforest, offers an abode for our guests to enjoy and ruminate. It is always a thrill to wake up with the drawing realization that you have a misty morning , the unaccustomed views and sounds ( birds chirping !!).

The monsoon is one of the most fascinating seasons in the Coorg. It transforms our landscape into a completely unique eco system with all the foliage coming to life, including the moss and lichen which are an indication of the health of the ecology that we are reposed in. The canopy of trees here paint every possible shade of green making our verdant rainforest similar to none other.

I am delighted to know that every aspect of your experience was excellent. It feels so special to receive such feedback from our guests and I am overwhelmed each time by the commitment of our team to create fond memories of our guests.

People are indeed our biggest asset and I feel proud to be part of a team that continuously strives to offer warm, caring and genuine hospitality at all times. Chef Ali, Pabitra, Abhishek & Col. Muthanna are thankful for the praises that you have for him.

Look forward to welcoming you back very soon with family.

Regards
Krishan Kant

VBT,Madikeri was recommended to us by Manoj Mathews, GM of VBT, Bentota. And what a recommendation it was! True, we were in the midst of a monsoon deluge in July 2014 but yet the place was full of magical fun with mist rolling in to the semi-open lobby , and occasionally allowing fabulous views of the Coorg valleys. The hotel project took 8 years to complete given that it was built in to the side of a mountain with 180 of rain forest around it. A mere review will not describe how gigantic the building project would have been.
There are so many good things about this hotel, its staff and its cuisine that even a seasoned traveller would need several pages for a comprehensive review.
Krishan Kant Aggarwal,GM, was ever-present and ever-helpful. This work ethic was reflected by most of the staff, in particular the restaurant staff. Pawan and Pankaj need special mention-they were superb each time we visited the multi-cuisine restaurant. Nitin, the resident naturalist was fantastic in the way he multitasked and assisted not just us but everyone around us too.
Mr Johnson, the Head chef was particularly nice, and on one of the days which was a special day for us, he served us some joyous dimsum and other oriental treats courtesy of Taj- this was on top of the food we had already ordered. Thankyou and much appreciated!
Tips-1)-Only the high-end rooms have air conditioning; having said that you are unlikely to need it even in summer. 2)- Walk paths are concreted and well lit, but dripping wet or moist all the time owing to mist and cloud cover- make sure you have good walking shoes. 3)-take your swimming trunks- the pool is absolutely superb-4)-There are 2 bird nests between rooms 402 and 502- the whistling worbler birds reside here, I am reliably informed!!- they whistle a variety of tunes for up to 20 minutes at a time and several times a day- I have recordings to prove this! It is a unique experience and is truly unforgettable.
We cannot wait to visit this wonderful place yet again. If you have moved on to a new assignment by then Mr Krishan Kant, then we will miss you. If so, I am sure you will pass on a great legacy to your successor.
