Just got back from an extended ski weekend in Bad Kleinkircheim and had a wonderful time on the slopes, in the village and at Hotel Trattlerhof. Each morning, the weather was quite iffy, whether it was wind or snow and clouds. But each time, it cleared up to bright, blue skies by the time we got up on the mountain. I cannot stress how extremely easy skiing is in this valley. There are a number of chair lifts, two of which are quite close to the hotel, and you can leave your skis in the depot at the gondola(s) so it's quite convenient. The snow was great and the skiing even better. I took lessons with some good instructors which made the experience that much more valuable.

I also loved the village, and spent quite a bit of time at Die Einkehr, the restaurant related to the hotel. Their classic Austrian food was perfect, including broth with pancakes and chives, and and schnitzel (I had the turkey version, as recommended by the waiter). Their pizza was so tasty as well. But they also did haute cuisine very well. We had a prix fixe dinner with Austrian wine pairings which I would put up against many Michelin-starred restaurants in London and New York. I discovered just how amazing Austrian wine is! As they say, they keep the best stuff at home and export the rest! Finally, it was a bit too cold but had it been a little warmer I'm sure I would have spent time next to the outside fire pit.

Lastly, the hotel. What can I say? It's got such a nice, warm feel to it that one feels completely at home. From the excellent food to the friendly service, and the spa area, the hotel treats you to a comfortable homecoming after a long day on the slopes.

If you're looking for a nice ski holiday destination, whether you're 20 or 70, single on with a big family, I can only recommend Hotel Trattlerhof and Bad Kleinkircheim.

I expect to be back very soon for a last ski before the end of the season and then check it out in the summer for some mountain walking.

The hotel is very nice - clean and cosy with friendly atmosphere, good service and excellent food. The hotel is nicely located between two ski lifts, giving an easy access to ski slopes. Only 150 m to reach these two ski lifts on food, and the bus stop is just in front of the hotel. The spa facilities (the pool and saunas) are very good.
To conclude - very good value for the money.
We enjoyed staying in the hotel and we are pleased to recommend it.

Yesterday , just returned from a ski holiday in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria.
We were a group of ski enthousiasts from Romania, but in this review I just want to refere to the hotel we stayed , Trattlerhof .
The hotel is situated at the entry in Bad Kleinkircheim from Villach (so not exactly in the center), but the bus station is just in front (shuttle bus is free in winter ) and in the summertime could be an advantage .
The hotel is exactly as described on the website, so not much to add ; with a special remark for the wellness center.
I would like to stress the quality of services; some nice "details" : all staff (including the owner) were wearing traditional carinthian costumes, horse stable , Einkehr (restaurant at the base of the slope), gastronomy, a wine testing evening etc.

My impression is that the family that runs the hotel (for six generations) is oriented to innovative turistic services.
I definitely recommend this hotel.

We would like to express our grate satisfaction with those three wonderful days we pass in Trattlerhof Hotel during the Christmas Holidays 2012. The hotel is furnished in old Alpine style. The atmosphere in the hotel and the SPA facilities was so stress-free that one could have the feeling that is being in his own home. The staff was very friendly and helpful and shown personal attention and warm Carinthian hospitality to each guest. We enjoy the excellent cuisine and especially on Christmas Eve. Extremely kind was to be personally greeted by the owners – the Family Forstnig – in pure Bulgarian language on Christmas Eve and we thank them cordially for this. We will never forget our pleasant stay at Trattlerhof Hotel in Bad Kleinkirchheim and will definitely recommend this place to anyone who is trying to understand what Carinthia and Austria are all about.

Have just spent our third New Year at the Trattlerhof and have to say it gets better each time. Food and service are great and nothing is too much trouble. As a mixed group of skiers and non-skiers there is always plenty to do in and around the town. Two of our party got to ski with Franz Klammer this time as well so they were more than happy. Kids enjoyed it so much they brought the room key back with them, so I guess they want to return….Excellent hotel, well deserving of its great reviews.
