Absolutely stunning hotel set at the foot of the Alps. The view is incredible! The staff are amongst the most intuitive and professional I have ever met (I have stayed at a lot of hotels). In many ways, it reminded me of the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town - the level of service, professionalism and the quality of the rooms and food. The breakfast buffet was nothing short of sumptuous and dinner was equally impressive. We had a 5 course dinner with the freshest ingredients imaginable and generous portions. It also included a buffet salad bar which again was so varied and inviting that I could've just eaten my entire evening's dinner purely from what was on offer there. The Spa was huge in comparison to any other hotel I have stayed at. Upstairs, there is a chill out zone and snack bar. Healthy snacks are available all day including healthy teas. This was paradise. It was on the expensive side but you get what you pay for and we got what we paid for! I wish I could've stayed longer but it was just a short weekend break. We went out of school holidays (weekend of 26/27th July) so it was pretty quiet and peaceful :-) When we left, we were given a goodie bag filled with local bread. An extra touch that made you feel very special. We will definitely be returning!

We have been staying in a room Studio Gastein & Schlossalm, CAT G during one week end of June 2014.Food was excellent, I would rate as a comparaison at least 15 in Gault Millau. Room was very large(see pictures) and staff and even the lady in charge of the hotel was present to supervise the restaurant.Spa is also very nice as well s treatments. In the evening, they ask to be dresssed "elegantly" which is nice, but they could perhpas try to have a lower temperature in the restaurant.
This hotel is also a very nice place to stay to visit and the Gastein valley as well as surroundings(Zell am See is around 40km.) Ramsau(where you can ski in Summer time) around 1 hour by car and the famous Wörthersee only 90 min.

Room Tip: If you stay for a week, do not hesitate to book a room Studio Gastein & Schlossalm, CAT G , the...

I spent my 5th snow holidays here and will be back for more. The staff is ultra effecient (Austrian) and frindly. It is REALLY gourmet food by a award winner chef. The spa is simply one of the best i saw on a 5* hotel, where you can relax after a day ski.

Room Tip: With a park view

Beautiful hotel, service amazing, food was even better. Would love to visit in skiing season.
Only thing that spoilt it was you could smoke indoors, you forget how the smoke lingers.
My bedroom was stunning and had amazing views of the village

This has been our 3rd visit to this area and to this hotel as a family with young kids. As my wife doesn't ski, she enjoyed the great SPA amenities as kids & I could enjoy the rides.
Rooms are large, well appointed, truly luxurious for a ski resort. Bathroom and the fittings are in excellent shape, albeit some furniture pieces are tired/worn out. Each room has at least one terrace with all round splendid mountain view (we recommend a suite or semi suite though for an extra space and 2nd bathroom). Wifi is free and runs well, all rooms have a nice entry zone with a 2nd door into the living space for better noise protection. In fact, we did not have any issues related to the noise from either outside nor from the neighbors/ inside.
Reception is very professional and well appointed, however lacks local friendliness described as a must for other high end hotels. It seems that younger people and families with kids are treated as the 2nd class, as the staff is very stubborn and shows impatience when kids behave as the kids should do...
Restaurant is run very professionally, however there is a clear face control for the dinner. Somehow the management expects you to bring a dinner suite on top of bulky ski gears and kids toys for a ski vacation. Families with kids, eastern europeans and brits wearing t-shirts get the tables at the very end of the restaurant, as they do not 'deserve' to be seated near the main piano area. This place is all about the Entourage!
Food is well presented, however the starter buffet is always the same and honestly dull (one fails to ignore that most of the clientele stops using it after the 2nd night). Main course tastes different from one night to another, showing a clear dependence on who is the chef tonight.
Waiters are quite attentive and learn fast your habits and even the kids food preferences.
Breakfast is rather on an average side, I would say fitting the 4* level in Europe (I can judge as spend more than 100 nights p.a. in the hotels), but the absence of an egg station fails it further.
SPA is indeed the best in that valley, especially the adult level. One recommendation would be to have a separate kids area/pool, as it gets noisy and messy after 5 p.m. as everyone is down to the same pool.
Underground car park and proximity to the main lift beat other hotels of this level in this area, as well as the fact that many staff members are well trained and retained for 10-15 years with the hotel (could recognize us after 6 year break in fact).
In a sum: professional, classy, safe, sustainable high end experience, which lacks a bit of warmth of Austrian people and love to the kids.
