We stayed 3 nights half pension. Our room faced the hotel at our side with view to the mountains. The other rooms face the road and the building in front of the hotel or the pool and the playing area at the back side. We think we got the right side. The room was large with a nice sofa, two tables and a double bed, the t.v. was outdated. At booking time we got the possibility to choose for dinner for 15 euro pp. We hesitated but it turned to be a good choice. Not only the breakfast was very good but also the dinner, with a wide range of dishes. The main course you choose in advance (at breakfast) out of three and is served nicely arranged like in a restaurant; the soup, starters, first courses, salads, fruits and desserts are at a free buffet. Most of the guests come for a week and were "all inclusive"; they got even beer and wine for free.
Some tips:
-Take the cable car from Hopfgarten to Hohe Salve. Choose always a sunny and clear day.
-Kitzbuheler Horn is less, especially if you take your car through the Panorama Strasse where you can't stop anywhere.
-St. Johan is a nice place.
-Zell am see is 55 km away (via Mittersill) and is worth to visit. Sit in the garden of Grand Hotel at the water side and enjoy a lunch or coffee with a lovely Austrian cake. It is great value for money.

Hi,
A group of friends stayed in this hotel on a recent ski trip. Initially when we arrived we were informed our booking was mixed up so instead of 3 double rooms we were asked to take 1 double and a family room instead. Given that we had booked the hotel three months previous to our departure date this was pretty bad. The cost per person for the week was not cheap either so one would have expected better. However the lady of the house did give us some cash back as a compromise which was ok.
The beds in the room were small single beds and we also found the room got cold during the night.
Food wise - the night we arrived there was a lovely buffet meal laid on with the choice of meat, salads, vegetables and potatoes. It was really good. To our disappointment this same format was not carried forward for the week. Instead one had to pick from a menu. Limited choice and the serving sizes were pathetic. By Tuesday we were fed up with the food here that we chose to eat out even though was had paid for it. The menu was presented to be posh food but in reality it was just cheap cuts of meats smothered in sauces.
Location wise - even though it is advertised the hotel is in the middle of town it is not. It is a 7 min walk up from the main area where the bars and restaurants are located. Each day this is not great and taxi late at night are extortionate!
The one good point about this hotel is that it is conveniently located to one of the main lifts up the mountain in the morning. We got the bus outside the hotel each day pretty easily and were brought to it rather efficiently. No hassles.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel!

Our family of seven stayed at the Kroneck for a week for the annual skiing holiday. We found it an excellent cosy hotel.

We had three rooms - two doubles and a family room. The doubles were identical, overlooking the pool area and with views to the south of the town. The rooms were very quiet, set back from the road and with great mountain views. Almost all of the rooms seemed to have balconies, although some of these overlooked the road or the sister "Lifthotel". However, all would have views, and most were south- or west-facing. Our room had a double bed and a single (without bedding, although presumably it could be made up for a child) plus two armchairs and a coffee table, ample storage space and a flatscreen TV. (I am posting a couple of photos of the room, but it was almost identical to those posted by "Biene1972" in 2010. In the bedroom, the TV had been upgraded and the carpet changed, but the bathroom and loo were the same.) The family room had a double bed and two singles. The room was slightly narrower and did not have a balcony. There was a kitchenette, not that we used it at all.

Some reviewers have complained about the beds and bedding. We found the beds very comfortable. The sheets on the double beds were fine, but it's true that the single beds have rather odd rough sheets. The pillows were also very soft. We asked for extra pillows, but by the end of the week, I was folding my ski-trousers under the bottom pillow and folding over the top pillow to give four layers!

The food was very good. Breakfast was an ample buffet: freshly-prepared fruit salad plus bowls of apples, bananas, kiwis etc, fruit and plain yoghurt, multiple cereals including delicious home-made granola, cold cheeses and meats, various bread, rolls and croissants and cooked breakfasts.

Dinner was the usual half-board Austrian fare, but much better than we have had in some other hotels. Most days we chose our main courses at breakfast (usually a choice of a meat, fish or vegetarian dish plus children's alternatives). Dinner started with an ample salad buffet, followed by a small starter, a creamy soup, the main course and a dessert - and often an excellent cheese board to follow! None of the courses was huge, but we usually turned down the starter and/or soup as it was too much. Although there was no choice of the other courses, most of us were very impressed by the dishes and their presentation. Our family contains its share of fussy eaters and almost-vegetarians and everyone was very happy.

We enjoyed the pool. We certainly had no problem with children swimming after 4pm. Ours were out there most afternoons or early evenings. The water is warm (luckily!) but any exposed parts soon get very cold. The children loved the pool and climbing in and out and throwing snowballs - probably not permitted, but nobody objected. The inner area is arranged as imitation Roman Baths, with signs in German and Latin...

The staff in the restaurant were excellent - very efficient and friendly. The reception staff were less effusive, but I wouldn't really call them unfriendly. They were certainly efficient - when a light bulb exploded in our bathroom, the receptionist dispatched a handyman within 2 minutes to fix the fuse etc, shortly followed by a maid to vacuum the bathroom. Both very friendly too.

Wifi was a much better deal than we have experienced before in Austria: 7 Euro for the week on unlimited appliances per room, just a different code for each. Our connection was pretty good, although it seemed to be much weaker in my brother-in-law's room, only four doors down the corridor.

We found the resort very good. My mother-in-law and I are non-skiers, the others very keen. The hotel is located slightly out of town, but we were happy with this. It was either a short walk in, or you could take one of the ski-buses. It was necessary to use the ski-buses anyway, to get to one of the three lifts in Kirchberg, or indeed those further away in Kitzbuhel etc. There was a bus stop right outside the neighbouring Lifthotel - and a ski-hire shop there too. My husband thought the Kirchberg-Kitzbuhel area one of the best places he has ever skiied.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are situated away from the road.

Our annual skiing holiday this year saw us in Kirchberg and the Hotel Kroneck. Rooms were spotless, food was excellent, staff were friendly, pool was great addition and our kids were allowed in all day as long as they were with us (wouldnt have any other way personally!) The kids did have a full activity room if they wished, as the adults could settle in to the bar. I had some misgivings about the resort but as this review is about the Hotel I could not fault it....an overall good experience.

We have just returned from 1 week during carneval holidays. The room was very nice, but the mattresses were too soft in the beds, whereas some friends complained that the sofa bed was too hard! The bathroom was very nice. The food was excellent except for the menu was too heavy on the Friday night. Even our friend who has an enormous appetite was satisfied. We felt a bit weird that the hotel written instructions said that children could not go to the pool after 4 p.m. the people in the reception said that it was not a problem. So had some mixed feelings about letting the children go to the pool after skiing, as it was one of the main reasons for booking the hotel. Not possible to ski out, but saw some a couple of people who skied in, but our group did not find out the route. So even if the hotel was very close to the lift, we had to wait for the ski bus as the lift was uphill. The people in reception were mainly friendly, but 1 lady was not very welcoming. The waitresses and waiters during dinner, did a great job. The hotel could be better if the bar area was a bit bigger and that the only cosy place with sofas was not in smoking area! The only free kids activity was the table tennis. The other games should have been free as well except the billiard, as it was a bit stingy to have to pay for football tables. Then the children would have spent much more time downstairs and buying drinks! The wifi was very poor, but cheap
