This is the best B & B - location is great - 5 mins walk to the train station, though it may not be easy to find from the train station. I didn't try to find it but took a taxi from Hallstatt. Not being a serious hiker, Hallstatt is my main sight for my trip and I chose to stay in Obertraun to see something different after Hallstatt. I did not expect such a nice house when I made the reservation. I only stayed one night. Had I known the hiking trails better, I could have stayed longer.

Everything in the room are not just standard items provided by a chain hotel. I could feel the heart of the owner to decorate the room. It's just small stuff but those small stuff make the room cozy. The view from the window is excellent.... especially after a rainy day... everything's green and sharp in color... houses, trees, flowers, sky, cloud etc.

The owner offered cookies and teabags at the common area. Breakfast is of very good quality. The stay here is another unforgettable experience for me - The first cozy B & B for me was the one in Marbella 2 years ago.

We travelled with 2 kids and try to avoid staying in a busy/ touristy Hallstatt, so we chose Obertraun, a small town opposite of Hallstatt (about 5 km. away). We biked to Hallstatt, all in bike lane and Kids loves it. We also bike to Koppenbruller cave and Koppenwinkl Lake, mostly through bike path which a large section was going through the woods under a nice cool shade. I highly recommended for (not serious) bikers. Haus Hepi's hosts Larry (the chef) and Lisa (the chief) are very kind and very willing to give a lot of information. The house was traditional and hundreds of years old and the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. We stayed in the room with the balcony and the view in the morning was spectacular with the fog overlaying the mountain range. The kids stayed in the connecting room and they love their bunk bed, just perfect! Larry also let us used the trampoline and the kids just gone crazy (we don't have it back home).

Stayed here when visiting Hallstaat, which is very close by. You can take a ferry, 3 minute drive, or ~2 mile walk. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The owner is a gourmet chef and they will serve you a 3-course meal for a good price - definitely take them up on that! The house and rooms are very clean, spacious, well-equiped and comfortable. Bed was very comfortable too! Would definitely stay here again over staying Hallstaat, the value was great. We had a room with a balcony that had a view of the mountains and a bit of the lake.

Room Tip: The balcony is worth the minor difference in price. It is a gorgeous part of the world, no reason no...

It was our second visit in Haus Hepi. And if the first one was a discovery of place we dreamed of- Haus Hepi of tranquil Obertraun and hospitality and help of Larry and Lisa, the hosts, the second time was the meeting of friends and long expected walks in forests, breathing fresh mountain air, swimming in cool lakes and in the end of the day - the excellent dinner with lovely desert both cooked and prepared by Larry.

We had nice 3-day stay in Haus Hepi in early June. Everything was perfect - big thanks to Larry and Lisa. Family atmoshpere was really something special you almost never get in other hotels. You feel it everywhere - in the room, in the hall, during the breakfast. Our tip is very magnificient view from the balcony - over mountains and lake. The hotel is very conveniently located - 3 min walk from railway station, away from main village road. In general location is very good to explore Hallstatt, Krippenstein mountains and surrounding lakes

Occasionally you stay somewhere that feels just like home and at the end of your holiday it feels strange to be going. Haus Hepi was like that for me. Larry and Lisa were such welcoming and convivial hosts. We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the lake and mountains. The area itself offers a huge range of activities with outstanding hiking routes all round (really well marked). On the odd days when the weather wasn't great there were still plenty of things to do. We walked to the top of a 1600m mountain and it was like being on top of the world. We opted to have five evening meals at Haus Hepi as we'd heard such good things, and we weren't disappointed. The pork belly on chive mash and the summer pudding were my favourites of the week, but all the meals were tip top. We had a great time in such a friendly place, in a beautiful setting and, yes, I really didn't want to leave...
