“A much cheaper alternative to their UK counterparts!”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We visited Center Parcs De Haan back in February for the third year running, once again enjoying a relatively cheap and fun week away. I enjoy visiting this park for several reasons. Firstly the price for our family of 7 is about a third of what we would pay for one of the UK parks. We always choose one of the lakeside villas which are modern, spacious and well-equipped (and my kids love feeding the ducks from the deck on the back of the villa!) There is also always loads to do. The Aqua Mundo (main pool area) is well sized with two water chutes and two rapids rides (one of which had recently re-opened last February) to keep the kids occupied. There is also an outdoor pool heated to the temperature of an outdoor bath, always fun to go in when snow lays on the ground around you! There is also a large kids indoor play area and a multitude of sporting options including tennis, table tennis, badminton, squash, crazy golf and cycling. The park is also excellently situated, less than ninety minutes drive from Calais and short drives away from the beautiful towns of Brugge and Gent. As we also had the 100 year anniversary of the outbreak of WW1 this year we took the opportunity to visit Ypres (including the excellent Flanders Fields museum) and the nearby cemetery of Tyne Cot. A well recommended trip. There are some downsides. The changing rooms for the Aqua Mundo still remain only suitable for people the size of Kate Moss, best to try and visit the pool either early or late to avoid the queues for changing. Oddly for a park which is mostly occupied by Brits and the French there is a strange lack of UK newspapers in the shop which is always frustrating. Coincidentally there are always several German papers despite barely seeing any German holidaymakers during my visits to the park? There are also a lack of english TV channels which is frustrating on a cold winters night when everything else has shut. Lastly I am not overly fond of the couple of overpriced restaurants at the park. Better to either eat in your villa or when you are out and about during the day...avoid the buffet restaurant in particular. All in all though Center Parcs De Haan offers a fun week away for the family with plenty enough activities to occupy your time......and the park is certainly a lot better value for money than it's UK counterparts!

Room Tip: Choose a Lakeside Villa

Sunparks never fails to deliver, good value welcoming lots to do. Even better with early booking and also young children discounts a fraction of centreparcs and lakeside villas are fabulous!
Book early for any treatments as it does get busy.
The stretch to exclusive saves so much as you then automatically qualify for the linen pack (and they make the beds up ready too) and the discounts make it all affordable. Sports bookings good value too and no cost to hire equipment just refundable deposits. Kids world is perfect for in between times too for keeping everyone occupied!
if you're after a day out Plospaland is amazing even from toddlers age and tickets can be bought in advance from the reception (takes around 30/40 mins) - Anubis highly recommended if you're an adrenalin junkie!

We have been to Sunparks before but not to De Haan ann see. Its a smaller park so where ever your accommodation is situated you won't have a long walk to the sports village. The pool was very clean and great for all ages. The beach was a 20 minute walk through the woods and the tram line (servicing the coastal towns) runs adjacent to the beach. The only negative aspect was the accommodation. The villa was clean but shabby with poorly filled holes in walls and doors and the sofa is so uncomfortable. Compared to the Sunparks @ Kempense Meren we found it older and tired looking. However it didn't spoil our short break and Brugge is only 15km away so this park is excellently positioned for sightseeing and travelling via the UK ports.

We stayed in the lakeside villa which was in a good location and well equipped for our needs. This is our second stay at this villa and one of many at sun parks de haan. The location is excellent for visiting surrounding areas and beaches and we also visit sun park oostenkerke which has excellent pool facilities.

Room Tip: Basic accommodation, well equipped, good base for on site facilities and access to the beautiful coa...

Very much like centreparcs sites in the UK we have visited, though a smaller site (or at least felt smaller). The staff were friendly - as opposed to a Centreparcs in Brittany visited 3 years ago. We tried out best with our French and even to try with Flemish, but staff were very accommodating to speak English without us feeling embarrassed at all. Is a quiet site. Would be good to get to Plopsaland from. Aquafun there is fantastic, as was the indoor play. The children in our party were 12 months, 2yrs, & 2x 5 yr olds.

Room Tip: Go for the 'comfort pack' - to get towels and linen - saves on boot space and quite reasonab...

I visited Sunparks De Haan about 18 months ago in Feb, and decided to revisit with a group of friends at Whitsun Week. A few points a wanted to make

1) Whitsun week is a good time to visit as Belgian kids are at school most of that week. Therefore all the amenities were quiet. February was much busier.

2) Myth bust. Some comments state that the kids Baluba large play area is charged for. This was not the case on my visit.

3) The beach and promenade at De Haan is delightful if you get the weather.

4) Bruges is close and a great city worth a visit. Cheapest parking is at the railway station euro 3.50 for 24 hours. Walk via the Beginhof into the town centre.

5) De Haan is not a CP. You get what you pay for, having said that, my kids cant tell the difference and enjoy both equally.

6) Some refurbishment had taken place since my last visit. The wild water raft was working this time round and not in Feb.

7) Go early or late to the pool to avoid crowds.

8) Make sure you tick the young family discount radio button when you order. it saved me almost £100.

9) Make sure you join the Select Club if you are revisiting. I got £40 worth of vouchers that could be spent in the shop, and a 20% off the bike rental.
