“Very good hotel with stunning views of beach...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014

If you want a beach hotel then this is the one for you! Views are lovely and the beach is fantastic and just a few steps from the hotel. The hotel welcomes dogs and our dog loved the beach where they are allowed out of season.
The hotel is 2** with simple furnished rooms but with good quality beds and bedding and everything was very clean and tidy; the Molene rooms have a nice balcony with, of course, views of the beaches and coast.
The hotel is a few minutes drive from the small town of Audierne but perhaps a lengthy walk....there are a few restaurants close by but during our stay they were closed. As we did not want a long walk into town, or a drive, we chose to eat in the Hotel restaurant. The restaurant had lovely views and a good menu with prices to suit most budgets. As we do not normally eat in hotel restaurants we were a little apprehensive, but the food was surprising very good and well presented, and we decided to eat again in the restaurant on our 2nd night. The service was good and the hotel proprietor, who spoke excellent English, was friendly and helpful.
All in all a very enjoyable 2 night stay!

Room Tip: Molene offer twin or double and have a balcony

Thank you so much for your positive comments.
Our venue is often praised for its location and seaview, and we have to admit that indeed, there is something to it !
Our two star rating would be no legitimate excuse for not providing our guests with a decent level of comfort, and we like to draw some inspiration from higher ranking venues when we think of improvements to come. To name but one, the balnonies of our Molene bedrooms like the one you had, are on the roster for refurbishment.

I am just back from a short trip to Brittany. I have travelled extensively in this area over five years, and by far my favourite hotel in the region is the Au Roi Gradlon in Audierne, which keeps me returning year after year. There is a wonderful sense of calm at this hotel, due to its highly efficient operation and due to the warmth and friendliness of the staff. The majority of rooms have really beautiful sea-views which are bordered by a the pier wall and lighthouse to the left, and the harbour to the right from where you can take a ferry to Ile de Sein. The hotel is positioned just above a sandy beach that is popular with families and it is just pleasant and very relaxing to open the window, read a book and enjoy the fantastic views and seaside sounds. Or if you are inclined you can obviously go to the beach and become part of those sounds. The rooms are modern in decoration, exceptionally clean, and have as a theme the characteristic Brittany light blue and white that you see everywhere. I have eaten in the restaurant many times and once on this trip. The food is very good, the speciality is of course seafood, and the dishes are complemented by a good selection of wines. Having tried a number of the other establishments in the area, I find the restaurant to be one of the best in Audierne and incomparable in terms of those amazing views which makes spending time there an absolute pleasure. Audierne is also an unspoilt treat, being a little less touristy than other locations and the more enjoyable for it. The town is a beautiful example of the best Brittany has to offer, picturesque and with lovely laid out walking areas along the sea inlet from the town to the beach. Walking out to the lighthouse after dinner when you have it to yourself, bar the odd fisherman, is a guilty indulgence of mine. In addition to its beaches there is some of the most spectacular rugged scenery Brittany has to offer just a short drive or cycle away at Pointe du Raz, and Pointe du Van. I usually hike along the coast from one headland to the other, and back parking at Pointe du Van. This takes about 4 hrs but feels like 5 minutes so breathtaking is the natural coastline beauty. So, if you are thinking of going to Brittany, you should definitely consider Audierne as a base, there is a lot to see and do. And if you are staying in Audiern try Au Roi Gradlon. You will be glad you did. I left already looking forward to returning.

Dear sir. To say that the review of your recent stay pleased us is a total understatement. In fact, it put a huge grin on our faces ! We are glad that on top of the qualities that you found in our venue, you also pointed at the beauties of the area we are located in. Audierne is a jem, and the coastline on both sides of La Pointe du Raz is rarely less than breathtaking ! Hikers, cyclists and nature lovers of all kind are keen on stating how impressed they are by the sheer beauty of our region. A blessing we are well aware of...

We were directed to this hotel by the local tourist information office on a very wet afternoon last May and were so pleasantly surprised by what we found. The room had been recently refurbished and was very well appointed but most of all the views from our corner room were spectacular, looking along the beach and out to sea. The breakfast was very generous and great coffee. The gentleman we dealt with was both friendly and very helpful and made the whole experience excellent.

Thank you very much for your kind comments ! It is not that often that we welcome visitors from down under, and we are glad that after such a long journey you stumbled upon our hotel. Apart from keeping the windows as clean as possible, our responsibility is minimal when it comes to the view from the rooms and restaurant. But despite our two stars rating we try to maintain a fair level of quality overall. The odds are that we will probably not see you in Audierne every Week end, but if you do travel back to our part of the world some day, we will be delighted to welcome you again.

This hotel was an overnight stop for a motorcycle tour by a group of 6 friends / colleagues, and for this purpose it was more or less perfect. The back of the hotel is straight on to the beach and the view from the balcony was superb. The reception staff were friendly, very helpful and spoke good English. Rooms were clean and tidy with good bathrooms. The evening meal was excellent, and although breakfast was a continental buffet without much variety it was unlimited in quantity and as with the other meals of good quality. Three twin rooms split 6 ways including breakfast, evening meals, and a few drinks and coffees, worked out at £50 each, which we all felt to be good value. The hotel has a private off-road parking area next to it and is motorcycle-friendly. Another good find from the Logis de France book and I would most certainly use this hotel again.

We recently stayed at Hotel Au Roi Gradlon for three nights whilst touring Normandy and Brittany.

The hotel is in a lovely location on a headland with a long sandy bay beneath the hotel and, with its own very convenient car park, it is a good base when visiting the area. An internet facility is available free to guests.

We stayed on a demi-pension basis which was probably the best option as Audierne itself is about a fifteen minute walk from the hotel and the only other place to eat close by is a brasserie which can be very busy in the evenings, although still a good place to have a drink. The food at the hotel was generally of a good standard but we were disappointed that they did not offer menu options, even though the restaurant has a wide range of menu choices for non-residents eating at the hotel. However, the options were very different each evening of our stay.

Our hotel room was of reasonable size with a large balcony and lovely views overlooking the sea. They even provide a sun umbrella.

Overall, we would recommend this hotel as a touring base if staying in the Audierne area and it could also be a good choice if looking for a beach holiday.

Book early to make sure you get a room overlooking the bay. My friend and I sadly ended up in the one room with a view of the road - but it didn't really matter.

The earlier reviewers are right - it's a lovely place with friendly people. The food both at breakfast and dinner is excellent. However a little updating of the rooms and a lick of paint would make it even better. The hotel needs a little TLC.

You will love the wonderful bay - walks along the beach to the headland are a must. The town itself boasts a lively Saturday morning market. And it's a good place for touring Finistere - take suitable clothes in case the Atlantic breezes are sharp.

We have just returned from a week's holiday staying at this hotel. We were with four other couples and we used the hotel as a base for our cycling holiday. What a marvellous choice it was for us! Very comfortable, spotless rooms all with a terrace overlooking a beautiful white sandy beach. We slept lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves.
The food was sensational. The chef and his team prepared the most wonderful dishes, the presentation was fantastic. We all thought this was heaven, a marvellous breakfast then a day of leisurely cycling in the beautiful countryside and then a return to a sumptuous dinner.
The owner and staff were marvellous, very professional and helpful. I certainly hope to return to this super hotel. Thank you Loic and all your team.
