We have spent the first 4 days of May 2008 in the wonderful Château de la Villaine, a 'château' dating from the 19th century situated close to Tours, right in the middle of the beautiful Loire region. As me and my wife were planning to visit several magnificent castles in the surroundings, we were looking for a kind of château to stay in and discovered this lovely place on Google.

We were warmly welcomed the first day by Adriaan and Joke, the Dutch owners who have beautifully renovated most of the castle. As we had read several very positive comments on Joke's cooking skills, we had decided to try out the Tables d'Hôtes which is offered as well to the guests of the Château. We have spent a wonderful evening and enjoyed a very well prepared 4 course dinner accompanied by several local wines! Warmly recommended!

The room 'Gentilhomme' that we had reserved turned out to be a very large room with a beautifully renovated bathroom. The room was very clean and the sheets smelt wonderfully fresh! The 3 windows offer a fantastic view on the vast domain (8,5 hectares) that surrounds the Château.

While enjoying breakfast next morning, Adriaan gave us lots of very interesting hints and recommendations on which castles to visit. Having visited all of the castles, Adriaan is the perfect guide who's happy to help you planning your day!

When we left on Sunday we were shown around the entire property by both Adriaan and Joke who invited us to have a cup of coffee outside before leaving. Last but not least is the very lively and playful Weimar dog Bichette (or Bizar like Joke calls her ;-)

I offered this stay for my wife's birthday and the both of us spent a wonderful time in this very charming Château. We recommend it to everyone who's planning to go the Loire region. If you go, don't forget to book the dinner!

S & S,
Anvers.

Colin and I have just returned from our second stay with Joke and Adrian in their beautiful chateau what in England we would call a manificent country house.
We were so looking forward to our return and were not dissapointed as in the late afternoon we were welcomed with open arms and a tray of tea and biscuites and caught up with all the news as our first visit was just after they opened up their home to visitors. Later we were delighted to be invited to join them for champagne out in the lovely peacefull surroundings of their enormous garden of natural beauty.
Joke and Adrian being very friendly and natural hosts join their guests for dinner every evening in the lovely ambiance and very interesting spacious dining room full of old world charm.
The wonderful gourmet mealsof four courses are all prepared by Joke with no help from anyone except the odd help from Adrian as he is usually very busy butlering all the local wines which are included through the whole experience .
We look forward to joining other guests for dinner round the lovely old table and it makes a very interesting evening as we have met people from all over the world.
We fully recommend a stay in the home of this charming couple where no language appear to be a a problem.
We will be back sometime in the future.

We just returned from our stay and must say it was very nice. Room was large and clean. Bathroom recently remodeled and VERY nice in comparison to the rest of the property. Dinner was excellent also. Grounds were well kept. Mattress was the only drawback. It may have been as old as the home.

We stayed here for three nights over the Christmas period including Christmas Day.

Don`t be worried that there will be nothing to do on Christmas Day. There were at least four chateaux open and we were able to have a mid-afternoon meal in a creperie in Amboise.

We booked to have our Christmas meal in the evening with Adrian and Joke and our fellow guests. The room was magical with a wonderfully decorated table and candles everywhere. We joined our hosts, their family and our fellow guests for a magnificent Christmas meal, taken at a leisurely pace, with plenty of local wine.

Adrian and Joke are such wonderful hosts. The whole area is beautiful and it was a great time to visit the chateaux as there weren`t many people around, apart from Christmas Day,but still not very busy.

We had a very special time and it certainly is a Christmas we will always remember.

We arrived as strangers and felt we left as freinds. Thank you so much for everything Adrian and Joke. I`m sure we`ll be back to see you!!!!!!!

My husband and I loved our 2-night stay at Chateau de la Villaine in November 2007. The house is pretty, the grounds lovely and spacious, the hosts wonderful, and Joke's dinner was the best meal we had during our 2 weeks in France. We enjoyed our day trips to Chenonceau and Azay-le-Rideau. We just wish we had stayed longer to enjoy another fantastic dinner prepared by Joke. What a great place to enjoy the Loire Valley.
