This is such a beautiful place! The photos look beautiful, and when you arrive, you find the property and the indoors just as beautiful if not more. My boyfriend and I went to France for a romantic vacation and stayed here in the beginning of our trip. This place was an excellent start, setting the mood and the expectations for a trip filled with beautiful views and enormous quantities of flowers all along.

The host of the house, Adrien welcomed us when we arrived, and instead of sending us straight to our room he insisted to shows us around the house, which made us feel welcome and at ease. Our room was very big, comfortable and very clean. It is all antique or at least antique-looking – in style. For a big room, there was not a lot of furniture, but it was very spacious and very comfortable, with gorgeous views.

The hosts are offering a home-made dinner based on advanced notice and for additional cost. We have learned about it form their web-site and decided to have the dinner the first night. What a wonderful experience!

Adrien invited us to come to the living room some time before the dinner hour for a wine and little chat with the other guests who attend the dinner that night. The guests dressed up a little, and how could you not, when going to dine in such a beautiful dining room dressed up in great taste with flowers, antique statues, tall candle-holders, dinnerware and the rest of the proper set-up!

The hosts of the house dinned with us, which made it so much more personal, created a feeling of visiting old friends rather than being just a client at another B&B. The hosts are very interesting people and had many curious stories to tell about themselves and the local life and customs. It was also interesting to learn the stories of other guests. It was a lovely dinner.

The meal deserves a paragraph of its own! Joke, the woman of the house, prepared all courses herself, except for the cheese. It was a 5-star dining experience. Joke takes pride in her cooking skills and for a good reason, the meal was outstanding. The dinner is prepared fresh that day, of course, and from the local produce that the hosts buy that day – that’s why the advanced notice is required. Adrien, an excellent host, made sure no one’s glass stays empty of wine or water. He paired wines excellently with each course.

If I ever travel in this part of Europe again, I will definitely want to come back to this house. I would highly recommend it to all of my friends and family with confidence that they will have a great experience.

I think this chateau is great for any kind of vacation – honeymoon, family vacation with or without kids, you will have a good time.

Friendly hosts, excellent dinner.
Booked a room for two, got a room for 4, ample space!!
Rooms with character, ancient castle with modern rooms.
Great golf opportunities, an excellent starting point for a tour of the castles of the Loire or the Cher and the Indre rivers.
My rating 10+

Our family (two adults and two children aged 13 and 14) spent 6 wonderful days and nights with Adrian and Joke early July 2008. The reviews about the food, location and most of all the friendly welcoming hosts, Adrian and Joke, are all true and can't fully express the special experience that you have when you stay and particularly dine at the Chateau. We booked dinner on the first night based on the tripadvisor reviews and after a wonderful meal decided to eat there another two nights. If you and your family appreciate warm hearted genuine people, lovely food and want a truly memorable experience, rather than just somewhere to stay, I recommend Chateau Villaine.

Excellent place to stay. Very friendly owners. Food incredible - well worth booking dinner too, the owners joined all the guests for dinner and we had lots of fun getting to know our hosts and the other guests. Lovely grounds and beautiful setting. A must to visit if you are in the area. Great place to use as a base to visit the chateaux and villages of the Loire valley.

My wife and I, and our daughter (age 16) and son (age 14) spent two weeks touring France in July 2008. Everyone agrees that the two nights that we spent at Chateau de la Villaine were the most enjoyable of the trip. Adrian and Joke greeted us as if we were family. We had dinner at the Chateau each night, and enjoyed the thoughtfully prepared meals by Joke, the selection of wines by Adrian, and warm hospitality of our hosts and the other guests. If you stay at the Chateau, the evening meals are a great value, and the memories will be with you long after you return home.
Upon our arrival at about 5pm, Adrian prepared a pot of coffee with some cookies for us in the courtyard, and sat down with us to help us plan our visit to the Loire Valley. He suggested that we visit Loches to see the ancient city, and learn about the rich history of the town. He also suggested that we visit Chenonceau late in the day after the crowds had thinned, and this turned out to be excellent advice. We also visited Chateau Montpoupon, which was close by. Overall, Adrian helped us set up a perfect itinerary for our stay. In hindsight, we should have stayed a few more days in the region to see more sights, but next time we will know.
Adrian also mentioned that the Chateau de la Villaine had donated their windwill to the local town, which restored it and offered tours on the day we arrived. We hiked down to the windwill, and our teenage children got to climb to the top of the windmill with the local caretaker. They both described this as being one of the highlights of our trip.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chateau de la Villaine, and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a unique and delightful bed and breakfast experience.
