“Enchanting”
Reviewed 30 April 2009

We have just returned from our sixth visit to La Roseraie, all of which have been of between four and six days. With Heather and Michael’s friendly and attentive hospitality, and with beautifully cooked, presented and served meals and the enjoyment of delightful and spacious accommodation and surroundings, none of our stays has been anything less than idyllic. In all our visits we have never met an English or French fellow guest who has been other than as enthusiastic as we. Every detail for our comfort and convenience has invariably been anticipated and we are happy to provide this unsolicited testimonial on the occasion of the booking of our seventh stay to which, as ever, we look forward with pleasure and confidence.

We have now spent two short breaks at La Roseraie, and will certainly return. For us, this is a perfect setting. The house, resembling a small chateau, is spacious, elegant and charming. We stayed on both occasions in the Garden Room, and the room was quiet, clean, well equipped and comfortable. The grounds are extensive, with a good size pool, a bar, and plenty of room to play games. Breakfasts on B&B are French style, convivial affairs, taken in the main house. Dinners, provided by Heather, at extra cost are of a good standard, with little incentive to stray too far in the evening. As meals are communial, one of the great pleasures is to get to interact with the other people staying there and share experiences. The house is actually in the town, and bars and restaurants are within walking distance, including one very good restaurant. There is an excellent market twice a week. However, the best thing about the place are the owners Heather and Michael. Nothing is too much trouble, if you need something you only have to ask. This is not a holiday for those wishing solitary confinement, complete seclusion, or lack of communication with their fellow man. Parkhurst would be better. Nor for those looking for a holiday camp. For us, it strikes just the right balance.

We spent a fabulous two weeks in La Marguirite gite at La Roseraie. The gite was lovely and comfortable with private patio and BBQ area. The pool and gardens are delightful - a real haven which felt as if you were in the middle of the countryside, but with the benefit of only a few minutes walk to the town square and its twice weekly market and wonderful patisseries. Heather and Michael were great hosts - very informative on places to visit in the vicinity (we particularly loved the medieval town of Chauvigny and the city of Poitiers which is a short drive away). We will definitely return in the future!
