Just stayed over night enroute to Calais. Warmly welcomed, beautiful building expertly made over into a hotel. Very comfortable rooms and even more importantly, comfortable beds and a good strong shower.

First class dinner, so good they have kindly sent me the recipe.

Cannot recommend too highly and hope to visit again.

My wife and I really enjoyed our recent stay at La Roseraie - the accommodation was very modern and comfortable, we were made very welcome, and the dinner in the evening was great. We particularly liked the Bistro, and the wine was great! Great value all round, and we would definitely go back.

I travelled to France with my husband and children aged 3 and 5. We stayed at La Roseraie in the larger gite - L'Atelier - for 6 nights. From the moment we drove through the gates we knew that we had struck gold! The entire property is magnificantly maintained. Our gite was spacious, had been thoroughly modernised but still retained its rusitc charm. The pool was immaculate and the garden areas lovely to sit in and relax. Heather was fantastic in suggesting child-friendly places to visit (inc chateaux). We dined in the B & B twice and each time had an exquisite meal. The French custom of re-using your cutlery was explained to us and was all part of immersing yourself in the local ways. This property is featured in Alisdair Sawday's book and it certainly deserves to be.

We have just returned from our holiday in France, staying at La Roseraie for the first week of our trip. We rented one of the gites at the rear of the beautiful old French house. The experience was truly amazing and having had the place recommended by friends we were in no way disappointed. The owners, Mr and Mrs Lavender were very friendly and welcoming. Help was always at hand when needed, and not at all intrusive of your privacy at any time. Local places of interest and directions were given and soon enough you find your way around the town on foot. Our 2 children aged 8 and 5 never wanted to leave the swimming pool and often we had the pool to ourselves. The family in the neighbouring gite were really nice people and on the first night of our arrival we had a lovely home cooked meal, made with the freshest home grown produce. To the rear of the house is a very large area of land full of fruit trees and vegetable gardens, and we able to walk freely around. The gite itself was a real home from home and all you would expect in it. The Sunday Market in the town was full of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat. We particularly loved the terrace and BBQ area for the gite. The summer girls were really friendly and always found time to chat to the children. It was a great experience and one definately to be repeated.

Our hosts were wonderful and went out of their way to accommodate me and my daughter. I was visiting my mother in her nursing home nearby, and it was such a gift to be able to recoup at La Roseraie every day. The food is delicious, the rooms very tastefully decorated, the dining room is like being in an old castle, the garden is huge with cherry trees, organic vegetables, etc . . . just like being home. All for a very reasonable price. I am planning to go back next time I visit my mother.

We were at La Roserie at the same time as the Marchants - our second visit. Travelling with a handicapped husband can be difficult, but Heather and Michael went out of their way to make our two visits as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Some people want a perfect world without paying for it! All the comments from other visitors to La Roserie are the ones to read as they illustrate the care of detail the Lavenders give. I am sure that they will take on board negative comments and, where possible, cover all eventualities. Our impromtu "House Party" for 10 could only have happened with wonderful hosts, beautiful surroundings, and happy travellers.

We too found it very difficult to locate the house ,,,chateau ?
We thought the Gold Room was well appointed but a bit small
We were part of the dinner party of ten and greatly enjoyed the conviviality . Food was good and original but the first course was rather slapped on the plate. Host was abrupt and grumpy, served red wine with the salmon without asking for preferences, Most shocking was to use the same knife and fork for the entree and main course, something only done in cheap and cheerful restaurants, The nasty cheap paper serviettes were ....!!!!
Cheese boards for 10 were very mean indeed.
Liked the little sitting room with comfy settees and facilities for drinks. not much local info though.
Breakfast was perfunctory. We didn't arrive at 8.30 so all the croissants were gone and the mean amt of butter pratically non existent. No one appeared to ask if we were well served.
We went out and returned at 3pm to find the gates shut and the inter-com unworkable,Phoned on my mobile, and Heather said I thought you were out for the day !

We would not return to La Roseraie because we had the impression that it was 'on the cheap' tho prices were not.We are English residents in France and travel throughout the country and it is the first time we have stayed somewhere where we have felt so disgruntled afterwards.
mIchael seemed more cheerful in the morning when we left tho Heather was always friendly and a good cook too.

On a night when we were fully booked and all our other guests were delighted and promised to return, we found that no matter how hard you try, you cannot please all the people all of the time. We put fresh flower arrangements in the guests' rooms; everyone was warmly welcomed and this guest at no time mentioned dissatisfaction with any aspect of her 2-day stay, which could have enabled us to address any issues she may have had. A shame that when an outstanding meal was provided in a beautiful dining room, full of original art and antiques, only the serviettes and the French tradition of retaining the cutlery for the first 2 courses was noted. We disagree that it is not correct to serve red wine with salmon. The wine provided as part of the tables d'hotes menu was a smooth, soft, red, which perfectly complemented the food and, in any case, it is generally agreed that the idea of only white wine with fish and red wine with meat is now outmoded. Our guest does not mention that she was, in fact, given a different wine when she objected to the red. We work very hard to make our guests' experience with us enjoyable as possible and will continue to do so.
