“Amazing wine cellar for tasting the famous Muscat de Beaumes de Venise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2013

This huge cellar named Cave cooperative des Vignerons de Beaumes de Venise must be visited not only for the impressive interior decoration and presentation but for the main reason you have to taste the wonderful Muscat de Baumes. Perfect for aperitif among friends., just fresh and delicious.

“We keep going back!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2013

We first visited and tasted Beaumes de Venise here probably 15 years ago and we have returned most years for fresh supplies. We were converted to sweet dessert wines (or this one at any rate) having previously regarded them as the province of old ladies. While lacking the relaxed ambience of the smaller caves, the options to inform oneself about the wines and to taste the produce are all there. There is a restaurant as well although we have never tried it. If you want to try it as the locals do, have it as a cold aperitif or fill half a charentais melon with it for a starter.

“Sweet retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2013

I have had Muscat in many of it's different incarnations: Moscato, Muscatel, Muscat de Frontignan etc. and given that every wine grape known may have descended from it I've probably tasted it more than I know. But I have never tasted it better, and never tasted it in a red, until I went here. Delicious selection, and a great Côtes du Rhone Villages as well, along with a killer rerstaurant attached. Go, drink, enjoy...

“A Wine Lover's Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2005

The Cave des Vignerons de Beaumes de Venise is located on the main North-South road leading from Aubignan and Carpentras to the south right through the middle of the Cotes du Rhone "Crus" villages: first Vacqueyras, then Gigondas, Sablet, Seguret, and finally Rasteau and Cairanne, with Vinsobre to the north. Overlooked by the "symbol" of the village of Beaumes de Venise, the 11th century church of Notre Dame d'Aubune (visitors welcome), this co-operative cave lies just to the west of the village of Beaumes itself.

The vignerons co-operative of Beaumes de Venise which owns and operates the Cave is one of the best-run and most successful in the whole of the Cotes du Rhone, and indeed in France. Producing both the emblematic Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, a fortified sweet, aromatic white dessert wine, and a panel of excellent dry reds and whites, Beaumes de Venise is one of the most prolific wine villages in the whole of France, despite its relatively diminutive size.

The Cave des Vignerons, needless to say, sells all the wine products of this appellation. But what's more, it offers wine lovers a tempting view of the chais and the barrel room, an interactive programme explaining the wines of Beaumes and of the Cotes du Rhone, and an opportunity to stroll through the bottle-ageing room built into the old concrete cuves (now all the Co-operative's wines are fermented in temperature-controlled ultra-modern stainless steel cuves). These old cuves have been modified to include a glass "bridge" over which visitors can look down onto the ageing bottles of wine.

What you get at the Cave des Vignerons, above all, is the opportunity to taste the villages wines (sweet and dry, red and white, from the different terroirs within the appellation), and a very warm welcome. The prices are fantastic and the "wine accessories" that they sell -- some branded with the appellation symbols, others not -- are a great draw too.

But here is my real wine lover's recommendation of the year: the Vignerons de Beaumes de Venise produce a "marc" (brandy) from the pressed muscat grapes used to make their Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. Aged in oak barrels, this is the most aromatic and smooth marc I've ever tasted. You can actually identify the character of the villages unique type of muscat grape in this brandy -- the floral and highly aromatic "muscat de petits grains". This brandy, as far as I'm aware, is only available in the Cave des Vignerons at Beaume. Don't miss it!

And for those that REALLY love their wine, they sell "en vrac": bring your own bottle or buy a plastic jug from the Cave, and you can buy wine straight out of the barrel paying by the litre...
