“Les Olivettes”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

Our first trip to Les Olivettes. It is very nice. Lourmarin is a very nice, pretty village, centrally located in the Luberon.

1. We stayed in the Le Pastis rooms. It was on the main floor, well laid out and worked out well. There is a kitchen that is very small. But, there is also access to the main kitchen of the building. Other people staying there when we were there cooked some of their dinners in the main kitchen. That is an option. Note that the rooms are all different. Ours was very nice.

2. The main part of Lourmarin was within walking distance for us--about 1/2 mile past the chateau. Some of our group drove to town and that seemed to work out fine.

3. Pool and grounds were very nice.

4. Breakfast is limited to some breads. We supplemented with OJ, eggs, fruit from the store and the market.

5. Lourmarin has a small market in the center and a larger market just down from the the TI. About 3 miles down the road is a large store (Super U) and that has all kinds of foods and other things.

6. When coming from the west on D973, go past Lauris and take D139 north. You will avoid Lauris and D139 puts you about one block to the west of the side road to Les Olivettes. Plus, D139 is a very pretty little road.

7. We had good dinners at Recreation and L'Antiquaire in Lourmarin.

We just returned from our fourth visit to Les Olivettes. Each visit we bring more of our extended family. The facilities are so flexible. Each spacious and beautiful apartment has its own kitchen and outside terrace. Larger groups like ours can barbecue and dine by the pool. Last week we were fortunate to meet two English couples--Lois and Lawry and Peter and Donna--who shared our passion for the local wines and conversation. Elizabeth and Joseph were-as always--delightful hosts with lots of information about touring.

My husband and I recently stayed four weeks in La Zidane, one of the two upstairs apartments at Les Olivettes. Our goal was to move in and not have to live out of a suitcase, to enjoy outdoor living as much as possible, explore the area, do some hiking, and just relax. We were able to do all these things and more, and found that four weeks was not long enough! If you are looking for a relatively long-term stay, I highly recommend Les Olivettes. Our apartment had the largest outdoor terrace, although all the other apartments do have outdoor areas. I don't have much to add to what other reviewers have mentioned! It is a beautiful property with all the needed amenities for a lovely Provençal vacation.

Room Tip: La Zidane is on the upper floor so if you don't want to climb stairs choose one of the first flo...

Recently returned from five weeks in Europe. Our first stop of our 5 week trip, Les Olivettes, in Lourmarin Provence. I read about Les Olivettes from Rick Steve's book on Provence. All I can say is this is a great place, enjoyed every day we spent there. Looking back, the only regret is not spending enough time right at Les Olivettes and the wonderful village of Lourmarin. I would highly recommend and hope to return someday.

We spent three nights in May 2013 at Lea Olivettes in the Voltaire suite. While two other couples were staying in other suites, it truly felt as though we had this magical property to ourselves as we rarely glimpsed the others.

Everything about Les Olivettes has been done with great style & charm. From the house to the grounds, the pool area, the shared kitchen or the suites themselves. I will post pictures when I can - but I'm somewhat reluctant too: selfishly I'd like to know there will be room for us when we return!

The parking when you enter is among the olives trees, the first thing you see on entering the house is a lovely living room with a picture window which perfectly frames the jewel-like town of Lourmarin. And it is a pleasant five-to-ten minute stroll from Les Olivettes to town.

I would recommend this as an ideal spot to base a visit of Provence. One of those great "finds" that is better than your expectation. Bubbling fountains, herb gardens, views, comfy rooms and a big pool.

I bought Elizabeth's book: her friendly, chummy wit shines through its pages. If you meet her, she is a great source of recommendations! If not, she has stocked many reference books to enjoy while lounging by the pool or over your morning croissant!

We stayed 6 nights at Les Olivettes and found it a very comfortable house in which to stay. It is in fact a number of separate apartments that have been tastefully renovated most having some kitchen facilities but able to share the well equipped kitchen of the house. Each apartment has its own courtyard in which to sit and have a pleasant drink or meal if you've become satiated with the excellent restaurants of the town. The complex is a short stroll into the village which is what we did most evenings when going to a restaurant or to get provisions. Like most villages parking is anissue at peak times so having a safe park so close was a plus. The grounds as the name implies planted to well established olive trees and has a nice pool.
Our hosts Elisabeth and Joseph live nearby and were there to meet us and to helpfully explain facilities , like cooking, restaurants, washing machines and a real bonus a Netspresso which deliver great coffee to go with the morning rolls they deliver each day. The common lounge room has a wonderful view back to Lourmarin framed in a large window and our hosts have provided a great collection of reference books of the area to help plan trips , walks etc. We would happily return if planning another holiday in the region.

We stayed for a week in September 2012 in the La Zidane apartment. It was an unique setting on the top floor of Les Olivettes. Open air living area with kitchenette gave us sense of living like a local by shopping the market and cooking simple meals there. Even when mistral blew a bit it was cozy and could be made weather tight. Very quiet with a fabulous view of Lourmarin from main salon in house.Received wonderful recommendations from Elizabeth about the area attractions, restaurants and cultural events. Bread basket every morning to go with our coffee! So many wonderful places to visit on day trips to other villages, hiking, history, markets etc. Not to be missed are the musical concerts at the Chateau and the wonderful wine shop in the Chateau's cellar. We came to greatly appreciate the wine of the Luberon region. Elizabeth has a bounty of local reference books and be sure to purchase the guide book published by Elizabeth's friends Bob & Sue Winn that use to live in Lourmarin. The suggestions and directions in that book are invaluable. We greatly appreciate Elizabeth's assistance in helping us with some car problems. She helped us turn the situation from lemons to lemonade. We hope to return some day.
