We were heading for Ludwig's castles (Neuschwanstein) in the mountains and decided to take a different road. That led us to this beautiful valley not far from the castles.
As we entered the valley, the first town was Oberau and we thought why go further? We spotted this little alpine hotel and we were able to get a room for the night. The owner was most helpful and wanted us to see the room before we agreed to take it. I personally have never encountered that, but it was refreshing to see how he wanted us to be happy.
The room was clean, certainly large enough for our needs. Again, you might want to ask for another pillow! We were on the main floor but I did not see if there was an elevator.
There is a restaurant attached at one end. We had some dinner in our room that night but the breakfast was well done. Lots to eat as you come to expect in Europe.
If you take a walk you will be blessed with the most wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. Had we time, we would have explored further into the valley to the other towns.
Upon checkout, the man did point us to the castles by taking the mountain road rather than back to the motorway. We were very happy to take his advice. Much more scenic to say the least. Very twisty and the locals are comfortable with going faster than the tourists!
