“Terrible position”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

The imposing Edwardian Villa is situated on a noisy dual carriage way which presumably leads to a hospital accident and emergency department, judging by the startling number of ambulances screeching out the German dis harmonic blues n twos. Directly opposite the hotel is what appears to be a large metal clad disused factory. We were informed by the staff that the factory remains fully operational. To the left of the factory is a busy Total filling station. The plot immediately adjacent to the hotel on the right, has a Euromaster tyre replacement centre which was fortunately closed on Sunday, replete with a disused restaurant. The hotels position could have only been rendered more unpleasant if to the left there had been a fully functioning whistle testing facility, running a 3 shift continuous operation. The photographs on the website are incredibly misleading in terms of the situation of the hotel.

We were unable to sample the hotel's restaurant as it was shut in favour of a BBQ which was set up in the small garden at the rear of the property. If we had reserved a table, which we hadn't nor been given any opportunity to do so, this would have afforded us a commanding view of the disused restaurant and the industrial style storage facilities behind. Judging by the price of the BBQ they had either employed Gordon Ramsay for the evening or the house specially must have been unicorn.
At this point in our visit the noise of the road was being drowned out by the alarm bells now ringing in my head. We politely declined our reservation and found an alternative hotel.
There is a happy ending to this cautionary tale. I am currently sitting by the pool of a 17th century hill top schloss, sipping a Kir Royale surrounded by delightful quite rolling hills, writing this review.

In summary if you are travelling on business for a generous company who will not baulk at the large bill you will inevitably be provided by the hotel at the end of you stay and are both blind and deaf with a preference for exhaust fumes, then this could be the hotel for you.

We staid at Villa Paulus last September while celebrating a friends wedding. It was an extremely pleasent stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was well looked after, very clean and the bed was a dream of comfort. My partner especially loved the huge walk-in rain shower. The hotel comes with a restaurant that serves lovely dishes. They may seem a bit pricy but the usage of fresh, local produce and the passion used for preparing them are worth it. And if you have a chance go for their brunch on the weekends.
All in all a place to indulge yourself for a weekend at a reasonable price for the service.
