As two families with adult children, we enjoyed 10 nights at The Tropical while attending the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens. We chose The Tropical for its location on the coast, away from the hectic city centre, yet only 15 minutes by taxi to the attractions. The hotel was modern, clean and the staff were wonderfull. We really appreciated their helpful advice and assistance with taxis, restaurants, tours and shopping. Our room at the back was quiet, well air-conditioned and had a view of the sea. We would like to return!

Just back from staying 5 nights at this hotel split over 2 different stay dates. We arrived late on Saturday night and even though we had booked a double bed room we were given a twin bed for the first stay of two nights, when we returned for the second stay we were given a double bed. Because the hotel is on the main coast road into Athens it is constantly busy with traffic throughout the day and night and on Saturday nights the Disco's across the road play very loud music until 6am, great if you are a party animal but if needing sleep not so good. On the plus side the rooms were clean and functional and even though the beds were hard, still managed to sleep fairly well with the aid of ear plugs. The buffet breakfast was fantastic with a wide choice to eat and the waitressing staff very friendly, likewise with most of the front desk staff. You do however have to walk at least 20 mins to find a decent Taverna and it is advisable to walk around the back roads to reach them as the main road is very busy with traffic and a few prostitutes toting for business. The hotel does have a nice little swimming pool to cool off during the day, also the bus stop for the airport is right outside so very convenient, the driver doesn't announce the stop though so you need to look out for the hotel which is by a big red sign Vero. Would stay there again as a good kick off point for tram, metro and bus to Athens and Piraeus.

the hotel was strictly ok...after seeing it was 4 stars and on the beach we decided to go for it. While the location is beautiful the same cant be said about the hotel. The staff is just good o talk and any inconvenience suffered they backout. We could not use the swimming pool during our 5 day stay because it was never clean and ready. The hotel had organized a acropolis tour but the pickup arrived early due to which we had to skip breakfast. The hotel didn't co-operate in this. Also you have to pay for the wifi and its 5 euros for 90 mins. Overall just a average hotel and certainly not worth the price. I would suggest to stay in Glyfada area which is a far better area, more shops and restaurant options and near to beach.

We stayed here for one night before our Flotilla holiday, and again for one night afterwards. Friendly, helpful staff. Clean, comfortable rooms if a little on the small side! Good breakfast. Terrific value for money. Remember to ask reception for key to fridge and to switch on AC.
Greek Taverna, recommended by reception staff, 700 metre walk away. Turn right along main road, then right just before 'Bank of Cyprus', walk to top of side road, restaurant on left at top. Name was in Greek, sorry. Great food, service and very reasonable.

This hotel was definitely the main road of Kalamaki. It is clean, food is basic but staff are very friendly and helpful. It is more suited for singles or couples. The main road is but the beaches are just across the road and excellent. I will definitely go back. The tram service is excellent and the stop is across the road. Be nice to Margueirita the waitress and barmaid shes brilliant x

The room was lovely and large and full of lots of useful bits and pieces - complimentary slippers and a bathrobe definitely enhanced our welcome. Unfortunately, there is only one cot available and another child was using it. The heating was on full blast and it was impossible to open the window without being blasted by noise from the street outside which was constant - day and night. There are no eating places within walking distance apart from the hotel restaurant although the breakfast was amazing and the people were very friendly so a mixed trip! Sadly, we were happy to leave.

We stay here in October so had little chance to swim in the see. But waling along the beach is also nice. Tropical Hotel is just on the beach in Alimos area, but very far from Athina's city center.
It's at the bus stop "5 Kalamakiou" of Airport Express X96, costs 40 EUR to take a taxi from/to the airport.
Friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable room. It is a pity that room with sea view is noisy because of the street outside.
