“Very nice family run hotel, good value, great location, good service.”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We stayed 4 nights at the the Argo 7/27-7/30/14, it is a small family run hotel in a very convenient location. Our ferry was supposed to arrive at 11:30 pm but was delayed and did not arrive until 1:30 but even with the delay, one of the owners was there at the port to pick us up with a van to transport us to the hotel. It is a 10 min walk from the port but with suitcases it would have been a pain to walk. It was myself, my 17 year old daughter and her 17 year old friend. Our room was a triple (one double bed and and one twin) with AC, a small balcony and a bathroom with a shower. The building is older but the rooms were clean, bathroom clean etc. The is a pool and the beach with chairs/umbrellas is in front of the hotel. Room was small but perfectly fine for our needs and it was clean and well air conditioned. We paid approximately $65 Euro per night and it was a very good value for the location--near town, on the bus route, near restaurants, stores etc. I think the price with breakfast was a little higher. We found the staff to be extremely helpful in making recommendations, calling us a cab, getting us extra towels etc. There was a laundry service next door that did--wash, dry fold which was great. We had been on vacation for a about 10 days at this time and the laundry service for the three of us was $10E which was great. The furniture etc in the hotel lobby, game room, breakfast room was dated but clean and overall we found it to be a good value and would definitely return.

Room Tip: We had a room in the front that overlooked the beach and the port with a balcony, you are on the str...

Pro-
Location Location Location!!
After Santorini and city life we wanted to enjoy the sunsets and closeness to a beach. This was a great location for us, a family of 3. Close to the port; beach across the street, walking distance to town as well as good restaurants and the supermarket. The room has a fridge so you can keep some drinks and snacks at hand.
When we came home after a nice relaxing day we enjoyed sitting on our balcony overlooking the beach while sipping a glass of ice cold white wine :)
We had two renovated and connecting rooms on the 2nd floor overlooking the street, beach and the water. Great for my husband and me as well as our teenage daughter. Not very noisy during the night and I am a light sleeper.
Friendly and helpful staff with everything from renting a car to restaurant suggestions.
The downstairs is spacious with pool table, bar, lobby and breakfast room.
There is a small and clean pool in the back that we never used, we prefer the beach. Would be great for a family with younger kids for that late afternoon swim maybe?

Con-
The only thing i would like to improve is to add mattress toppers on the box springs. The beds are very firm and not comfortable for me. However my husband and daughter slept like a log.

We were in room 106. Rather shabby bathroom, shower was a complicated aqua centre that was hard to use.

Breakfast room was very shabby and cramped, mediocre food, but the brown bread was delicious.

Staff were conspicuous by their absence and not terribly helpful when we did see them. We were only here 1 night.

While the hotel is well located and offers a nice ocean view with their balcony...the description and pictures of hotel do not represent reality..the hotel is outdated, badly renovated, not clean, section of beach managed by hotel was the only section of the cosat which was very dirty. We were told they did not have time to clean it. No interet access, no hot water, no bread or pastry for breakfast. Bed uncomfortable. Personnel seems unexperienced . Furniture in dining room was discusting.
Bad experience..and the worst in Greece.

Room Tip: For young crowd looking for cheap hotel on the beach

Staff seemed pleasant enough when arriving but became very surly when we started to make complaints.

This is the worst hotel We have stayed in.

The room was tired and on closer inspection (after we had taken the room) it could have done with a good cleaning. There was no hot water and we were told they turned it down because it was no longer high season (second week in September). This was complete rubbish, the water wasn't even luke warm and was clearly not being heated at all!

The shower was loose on the wall and had no pressure. The rest of the furnishings were old and drab.

Avoid at all costs!

We stay in august just for one night because we arrive earlier with the both that we estimate in the beggining and our hotel didnt have rooms availeble !
The rooms are dirty , the plugs the Ac is yellow , the bedsheets are with stains and the curtains was full with dust and the bathroom have a terrible smell!
The doors are very thin and during the morning you heard noises from other door , the housekeeping on the corridor , people speacking loud etc etc ! If you have the see view , the view is really nice but during the moring when the both arrive in port she make a terrible noise and starting with 9 you heard all the cars and moto from the street in front !
Regardind the location- this is very good -7 minutes walking to the port and one of the beach is just in front of the hotel! This is a very good thing!
What was more dissapointed is that teoreticaly is a 3 star hotel but in reality is not like this ! I make pictures and i put on tripadviser with the dust and lack of cleaning also from reception , front of the hotel which is practicaly like a bussines card for a hotel : look on the picture with the dust from the printers ( i never see this in my life ), with the back of the front desk or with the chairs on front of the hotel !

We booked one night stay for 4 couples in Booking.com. So basically 4 rooms, The room rate was very good, only 40 Euros. Very good price and we were consider lucky since images on booking are great.

We were surprised to arrive in the hotel and see that the photographer was very good as the real thing had nothing to do with images.

1. Rooms
Since we paid 4 rooms for the basic rate, we received the basic rooms. That meant 2 of 4 were smelly (like old bed sheets smell from granny time).
One of the room had the sheets dirty. I cannot tell if the dirt was due to stains that were not able to be removed anymore or just dirt that was not washed well. Or from other tourist,
The bed mattress was so hard that i wake up more tired then i went to sleep.
One "nice thing" happen when we asked for new bed and pillow sheets that they gave us also with dirt stains. (???).

2. Noise and light
Since the room was facing the street, in the morning was very loud noise. Also a lot of light as the room windows were not covered very good.

3. Bathroom.
Very basic. Maybe we did not get the upgraded rooms but the bathroom was very basic.

Overall was really disappointing as the images were great and the real thing was horror.

What i can't understand is why same room they could charge regular price of 80 Euro / night??

On the other hand i can understand the conditions somehow. The majority of the customers were backpackers. Actually when i checkout there was one that was stinking so much as i could't breath.

Also on the desk of reception was so much dust that you could write things. I even made pictures to prove it.

Also the reception was horror. During the night when we arrived we got the feeling of scary movies seeing the reception.

I guess the owners were not taking their best of interest taking care of things. Specially when during summer there are a lot of tourists.

Anyway, overall i ignored all above as was late and i stay only one night. But if i had to stay more, it would be terrifying.

Conclusion:
1. Images on booking are not representing the reality.
2. Some rooms are smelly. A lot.
3. Rooms facing sea are very noisy.
4. Dust and dirt is everywhere.
5. Definitely not 3 stars.

I recommend other hotels even if is more expensive.
