We spend a wonderfull time at this quite and charming place. We've got a very nice welcome. For breakfast she makes very nice marmelades, yogurt with fresh fruits, exellent capucino, anything you ask she will prepare. To visit rest of Paros I would recommend a car or scooter.
I was there at my birthday and got a present, we invited Anthippi for dinner in town, we had a wonderfull evening together.
Lots of nice restaurants in the area.
Whenever we would go to Paros again, we would go back to this place.

We stayed in this guesthouse recently during a tour of the Cyclades which took us from Ios, to Paros to Santorini. I had searched long and hard for a small hotel with character and charm and, looking at the web site, this one seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

There is no doubt that Anthippi Guest Houses complex is very charming. Built on a small hill 2mns by car from Parikia, which is itself a lovely town, it is close enough to walk to its numerous seafront tavernas and bars but still feels quite remote. Some rooms have views of the countryside while the pool and breakfast area at the top of the complex has a near-panoramic view of the bay. The rooms are nicely decorated with antiques and artefacts and the owner, who is an architect, has certainly an eye for the unusual.

However, compared to other places we visited during our tour, this place was a bit disappointing, this mainly due to the attitude of the owner. Although polite and pleasant enough this busy lady gave us the impression that running the guesthouse was a secondary concern. First of all the booking process over the internet was a bit confusing; I won't go into details but I'd rather have a straightforward exchange of e-mails than having to fill in booking forms and being given different reference numbers everytime you send one, confusing what should be an otherwise simple process.

When we arrived our hostess was not there. She had left instructions for us with a charming couple, who incidently were the only other guests at the time. Although the apartment was lovely my first disappointment was the "private terrace" I had been expecting. It was basically the steps in front of our door and the door of the studio on our right, albeit with a table. Moreover, when we opened our bedroom window, we were overlooking the terrace of our neighbours on the left who were sunbathing when we arrived. When I told our landlady of our disappointment the following morning she was not very gracious about it pointing out that our neighbours were leaving on that day and, as we were the only residents until the end of the week, we could use any terrace in the place if we wanted to- but what if this was not the case? this did not change the fact that there was no privacy. She did not seem to think it was a problem obviously...Proof came when the following morning, as we were having breakfast at "our" table the maid arrived and proceeded to fold towels, etc.. a few steps up from where we were eating. The day after it was the gardener who watered the plants in front of us; and another time it was the owner herself who was doing her washing at the fountain in front of our door. In itself it was not a problem as we were on holidays, sitting in a beautiful place nearly deserted. However I would have liked the owner, at least, to admit that our terrace was not exactly private. Potential guests may also want to know that the lovely, small dipping- pool has a notice asking guests not to wear suncream lotion in the pool! To me this seems to defeat the purpose of using it. And please do not take the sun loungers to your "private" terrace as the owner may not be too happy about it, as our neighbours discovered for themselves.

As for rates, well, considering we were the only guests and arriving at the end of the season, we would have expected some kind of discount. Not so at Anthippi Guest Houses. As the studios are on the VERY small side with an outside kitchen, we had decided to book an apartment for the two of us. This was at a cost of 120 euro per night, which is quite a lot at this time of year, especially in Paros which is not exaclty Santorini. When my husband had asked for a possible discount if we were to stay for 5 nights he had been told that we would be charged the low season rate although the first two nights were still in the middle season- a grand discount of 30 euro. Moreover breakfast is not included - which is indeed mentioned on the web site- but what I liked the most was our hostess logic that breakfast was not included as we had a kitchen in our room so we could make it ourselves. We only had breakfast on the first day and this was an extra 17 euro.

There were some other instances, which I won't bore you with, which made us think that guests' satisfaction is not the owner's main concern. It is unfortunate as Anthippi Guest houses is an interesting place. If you are after the unusual, are not looking for value for money and, oh yes, like seashells - which are used to decorate the premises extensively- this is the place for you. Otherwise I would think twice.

This is a charming hotel in a converted farmhouse. It’s not luxurious, not even close. But it is interesting. The owner, Anthippi, is an energetic, gracious on-site manager. The rooms are furnished in typical Clycladic style, very spare with built-in beds and sofas. They are decorated with an eclectic collection of antiques and art. The website gives a very accurate representation of the spaces.

But watch out for #1—it’s very small. It was our first room but we told Anthippi we couldn’t spend 12 days in it! She rearranged her schedule and moved us the second night to a suite.

While we were there, only breakfast was served and it was the typical Greek breakfast: coffee, bread, jam, juice, fruit and yogurt. No buffet —each serving was made as requested. The highlight of breakfast was Anthippi’s homemade jams. She even gave us a jar when we left.

The hotel is nicely sited on a small hill on the outskirts of Parikia, close enough to walk to shopping, restaurants and night clubs but far enough away to be quiet. The outside portions of the rooms have views of the countryside of Paros while the pool area has a near-panoramic view of the bay and countryside.

The rooms are cleaned daily, although I think you may be responsible for your own kitchen clean-up. We did our own, so I don’t know if was included. There was plenty of clothesline around the patios for drying laundry and towels. There was very limited closet space, and no place to stow away luggage. The rooms are, after all, the existing farmhouse rooms and Greek farmers of the 1800’s didn’t have all the clothes we have! The bathrooms are the one modern addition. They are nicely tiled and, rather than an installed shower, the whole room becomes the shower with the handheld showerhead attached to the sink.

All in all, it was an interesting stay, and made more interesting by our morning chats with Anthippi at breakfast.
