“Pelgrim trap...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

We arrived at the B&B and although we told the owner what time we would arrive, upon his request, no body was there. We had to ask a neighbour who told us, we had to call… It was raining… He answered the phone quickly and said, he was going to be there in less then 5 minutes, he stated the 5 minutes 3 times… 20 minutes later, standing in the rain, he arrived. With a big smile, friendly… We ordered via internet a triple room, because we like to have some space, but he offered us only a double room… for the price of a tripple! When entering the room I looked around and all seemed ok, but I didn’t see the airco remote control so I asked. He said: airco is a supplement of 10€ a day. We were stunned! I thought that on the booking.com page, where we made the contract, the airco was included. I was not totally sure though and was going to check later. I said I needed the airco and he brought a remote control and put it on… the wind from the airco blew over the lights and a huge amount of dirty dust was blown into the room… He excused for that, telling it was the fault of the cleaning lady…
We were tired and went to bed. But we got awake at 7 by the neighbour room, talking and laughing, apparently the rooms were not as soundproof as he wanted us to believe (there was soundproofing mentioned on the contract). We could hear anything…
Breakfast was not included, and costed 3€ a meal, but it was not worth it… so we only ordered it once and found nice breakfasts in town for half the price…
Meanwhile I checked the website and it was clear to me that airco was included and not be paid as a supplement.
The final day we checked out and I had a discussion with the owner regarding the airco. Obiously I didn’t want to pay the airco, because If I had known that it was excluded, I would never have chosen for this place… so he became angry and said [--] you! He threatened to call the police, but since we had a contract that didn’t describe extras, I was not afraid of that… I felt I was correct and he was trying to deceive us. We paid the correct amount and left the building.

Grazie

We stayed in the bedroom facing the front of the building which has a large balcony with views up or down the road to the shrine. 10 mins walk to shrine. Very comfortable beds. Ensuite facilities. Air con and heating. Very safe building, but the town is also very safe. Luciano, the owner, is a charming and very helpful man. He gave us all the info we needed to make the most of our two day stay in the area. There is a small dining room, and breakfast (3euros) or dinner was offered, if we gave notice the day before. There is a safe place to leave luggage after check-out. If you're coming by bus, don't go to the top where the shrine is. Get off at the stop after the post office and walk up in the direction the bus is going.

Room Tip: the room at the front with the balcony is bright and airy

Rooms suitable for an over night stay, or a few days. Bathroom and bedroom all clean and set up nicely. In a nice part of town, close to centre and also to the Shrine. No breakfast, but its not a problem. Would stay again.

We stayed at the Santa Lucia Bed and Breakfast. We had read ahead of time that there was no breakfast, so no problem. We brought Nutella.
We had booked two quadruple rooms. On our way there, which was a little over 4 hours, the concierge tracked us down, called us up and suggested a small apartment with three bedrooms (two of which we used), a bathroom with a tub to share, and a kitchenette, which we did not use, except for making coffee. We were able to sit around the table and stay up and talk a while, which was nice before getting to bed and starting a new day. This was nice and gave us the impression of a simple home away from home. It was very cute, clean, and had all the basic needs. Our stay was only for one night, and thankfully, the beds were cozy. One bedroom did not have air conditioning, but San Giovanni Rotondo is in the mountains, and even in the summer, the mountain air is cool and comfortable....and good for you, too! We all slept very well, but the bedroom at the front was a bit noisy in the morning due to the weekday traffic. We were able to take a 10-15 minute walk to the center where there were the churches and the sanctuary. The parking was about a five minute walk away. It was good and served its purpose. The bedrooms are what you see on the website.
