“A Little Peace of Heaven on Earth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2012

My Fiancee and I have just returned from the Paradise that is Sardinia. Bright amongst the superlatives of our memories must be the Rifugio Gorroppu - what a fabulous place. The minute we followed the small track to the ledge on which it is built, we knew it would be a memorable stay.

Angelo greeted us, not really knowing any words of English and me with no Sardinian, but the rapport was instant. The welcome very warm and hospitable - just like all of Sardinia. Our room was magnificent, perched on the edge of a vast wilderness, with only 3 or 4 lights twinkling in the dark.

Madellena was such a lovely hostess for dinner, serving such hearty meals that it almost broke my heart to leave any of the food she had prepared. Let me tell you - I can eat - being a born and bred grumpy Yorkshireman, but even I flinched at the size of the portions on offer. Not just the quantity, but the quality.

It truly was as if we were at home with family - a magical experience that will live long in both our memories.

Many much larger and more oppulent hotel establishments could take tips from the Two Angelo's, Madellena and every connected with this glorious place. Holidays are about memories and the warmth of the welcome received, not just about having a Jacuzzi bath and a formal dining room!

I commend the whole experience that is the Rifugio Gorropu. If you're lucky enough to be in this corner of the world please try out the hospitality - you won't regret it!

We spent three nights at this peaceful and friendly place last week. It is a great location for hiking or beachcombing. The food was good but a little too plentiful for me! Angelo and the other staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the tranquility of the place.

my friend and i stayed for two nights at the rifugio gorroppu this last june.
we were amazed by the kindness of angelo and his sisters. they made themselves available for us in a way that we could not hope for.
the area is perfect for hiking, the nature is beautifully presevered and raw.
the view from the terrace is breathtaking and the rooms are clean simple and modern. very good beds as well, which can be important when you've been walking all day.
the food also is good simple and beautiful, as is this country and its people.

My wife and I stayed for three nights with Angelo and his family while on honeymoon in Sardinia over Easter. Contrary to a previous reviewer, we found the location immediately captivating, on a south-westward facing hillside looking up the valley toward Gola Su Gorroppu with a lovely panoramic view of the Supramonte. This is a perfect base for day excursions to Gola Su Gorroppu and Tiscali (just follow the road down the valley to find the trail heads for both of these day hikes) as well as Cala Gonone (the starting point of some of the best beaches in Sardinia). The rooms were large, scrupulously clean and comfortable.

The evening meals were delicious and generous four course affairs composed of an array of traditional Sardinian dishes that we had been hoping to try. These included local cheeses and cured meats, home made culurgiones, ravioli and malloreddus, roasted lamb and porceddu all nicely washed down with local red wine and mirto. The menu was different each night, and each night was equally delicious.

Angelo and his family made us feel completely at home and despite the fact we can't speak Italian there were no communication problems. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

After reading rave reviews of this place we booked for a night in order visit Tiscali and the Canyon. As soon as we arrived we felt apprehensive. It looked as if work on extending the place had begun but not been continued perhaps for cashflow reasons. The rooms are large, modern and quite adequate but the outside terrace area is bare concrete and not very appealing.
We had a very good meal in the restaurant, we could not fault that, but breakfast in the morning was one of the most disappointing we have had. There was no thought for presentation, a carton of cheap juice on the table - no bread - everything in packets or sachets.
Reading between the lines, times are hard for the agriturismo and we sympathise but we certainly won't be returning.

I stayed by Angelo's last summer with my boyfriend, mother, sister, two dogs. The location is perfect, surrounded by nature. I really like the room, big! The food is nothing but amazing, portions are great, the atmosphere is overall nice and relaxed. Angelo and all the staff were nice with us, they suggest us the best areas to visit in the surrounding.
I recommend to step by!

If you are searching for a place in dorgali, or near Cala Gonone, stop searching. The only way to improve your staying at Angelo's place is to book one more day!
We had a wonderful dinner, with a series of dishes only Obelix would ask for more!
Make sure to set your alarm in the middle of the night, wake up and look at the sky. You'll rarely find a place with such a pristine night sky!.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the view of the valley.
