D'Orange D'Alcantara
Reviewed 28 October 2012

I am returning from a walking holiday in Sicily, where we stayed at the Hotel d'Orange in Francavilla. The hotel itself was comfortable and had what one might expect for a three star rated accommodation. The staff were first rate and nothing was too much trouble. The manager worked long hours and was always there to ensure a pleasant stay. The food was a set menu; it was both plentiful and well prepared.
If I were to return to the area, I would be most happy to spend my stay there.

We stayed at the Hotel for 1 week on a Ramblers holiday. With its very helpful staff and generious portions of local foods this gave you a true taste of the local area. The roof pool with moutain views is a magical place to rest after a hard day walking. The manager was a man of many talents which made the holiday one of the best. One slight negative is being close to a road with some traffic noise.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side road are quieter

THe hotel is in a quiet village in the mountains about 18 kms from Taormina. I booked through BA and it listed the hotel under/near Taormina which is rather misleading. THe reception is dark and dismal and a bit faded. The rooms are OK - basic but clean and again rather faded. Staff are pleasant and helpful. WiFi is not available in all rooms and i had to go to reception to access it. You have to pay extra if you want to watch TV!!!!! Breakfast is basic - as many reviews say, the coffee is appalling! The roof top pool is very nice.

Room Tip: best to go not for a room at the front as there is a busy road!

We stayed in a Deluxe room for 4 nights in July, 2012. It was 39degrees on the day we arrived so the airconditioning and swimming pool were a welcome relief. Giuseppe and his mother Maria were very friendly and welcoming. We only ate at the restaurant on the first night, the pizza and swordfish was excellent. The breakfast ladies were very nice and friendly. The rates booked in advance were good value. Can recommend staying here.

Located a ten minute uphill walk to the quiet village, and a ( €5 return, 1.25 hr ) bus ride from the coast at Taormina.
Good for walkers but not for beach or nightlife enthusiasts. We were fortunate in being able to.join a happy group of UK Ramblers.on day trips to Syracuse and to Mt Etna.
Restaurant was good with a specially good breakfast spread.

While looking for a great place to stay in Sicilia Italy we found the Hotel D’Orange D’Alcantara. We stayed for 4 nights and the room for the three of us was only $58.00 a night. Giuseppe and the staff were very friendly and did their best to help with any questions we had. The breakfast was included in the room cost and was delicious even though ham and cheese everyday was a bit much. There are tours and many options but with our little one only being, three they were a bit limited. We did spend some time in the pool.

Nothing negative to say about our one week stay on half board. The double room was a decent size and the balcony improved it a lot. Everything worked ok in the bathroom. Evening meals were the highlight with the first 2 courses of 4 being particularly enjoyable. Beer and wine reasonably priced.
