“Convenient hotel in a wonderful hill town”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

Hotel La Meridiana claims three stars- a stretch! It is very well located close to the centre of this wonderful historic hill town near Sansepolcro. It would have been refurbished about tweny years ago and is pretty tired- yet there is very little choice in the town. I had the smallest single room I have ever seen, barely room for a single bed and basic furniture- but there was small flat screen tv and wifi was free in the rooms. The view of the old fortified town sprawling up the hill was wonderful. Dont linger in the hotel. Exploring the alleys, steps and stairs, the bars and artisans studios make a visit here a must. Our evening meal in the hotel restaurant was basic but acceptable; breakfast was better than average.

Room Tip: Look at the room first, if you can. One with a view up to the old town is really wonderful.

We've just returned from a wonderful 5 days in Anghiari, Italy. This is a small and unspoilt medievel village located in the Tuscany region of Italy. We were staying there for my sisters wedding, she was marrying the son of one of the locals.
We stayed at the Hotel Meridiana, a three star hotel. The accomodation was clean and comfortable. I think we had possibly the best room in the hotel, 321. It had a terrace with the most spectacular views and it was possible to lie in bed in the morning and watch the sun coming up over the valley. All rooms werre en-suite with either a shower or bath. Some of the showers were cubicles others (like ours) were shower rooms. The hairdryers were quite powerful, good enough to dry my thick hair. The only thing lacking in the rooms were Tea & Coffee making facilities, but apparently this is the norm throughout Italy. So if you like a cuppa first thing take a travel kettle. The towels were a bit weird, more like tea towels than fluffy towels but apart from that the rooms were fine. Breakfast was good offering a great variety of breads, pastries, ham, cheese, yoghurts, fresh fruit & juices.
When eating out there were plenty of choices to be had. There is a little bar just opposite the Meridiana offering the most delicious home made ice cream ( I recommend the cherry), it also offered a variety of foods for lunch and snacks. Just off the main square was a pizza restaurant, whose name escapes me but the welcome was wonderful and the place was very family freindly, even providing crayons and paper to keep the kids occupied. For a special meal there is an absolutely wonderful restaurant just off of the square called 'Ristorante DA ALIGHIERO'. This is a beautiful place to eat offering some great alternatives to pizza and pasta. The owners were really helpful and freindly. They made a point of regularly visiting all the tables to chat and make sure everything was ok. The food was amazing and the service brilliant. This is definately a must visit!
Most of the shops in Anghiari are situated around the main square and on the hill but if you explore the lanes running off the square you can find some lovely little shops selling local craftware, there are also some museums hidden around the lanes and beautiful little chapels. On the outskirts of Anghiari at the bottom of the hill is a outlet store selling shoes, bags and clothes for men, women & children.
On the whole Anghiari is a beautiful location to visit and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet break to an unspoilt area.
