Florence House Rental - Villa I Cipressi & Villa Calcinaia
Reviewed 19 June 2014

I have returned from Italy but my heart and mind is still resting peacefully in this lovely Tuscan villa; and our experience in Italy was completely enhanced by the gracious hostess Paola of this lovely bit of heaven just west of Florence. We were a group of 7 women who arrived in June in the middle of an unusual heat wave (104 F!) - we were fortunate to have a wonderful welcoming dinner for us (grazie a Paola) in a cool first floor room. In addition, the pool was a big PLUS at this time; also the fact that each bedroom had an AC unit saved us when it was hot during the day. Having a full and very large kitchen (including full size large refrigerator) allowed us to shop and cook for ourselves if we wanted to - the supermarket (Ipercoop, open til 9 pm most nights) is a short ride down the hill to Lastra a Signa, with beautiful views on the way. With that many ladies, we certainly needed and loved the bathroom in each of the rooms. The rooms were as beautiful and spacious as the photos show. Paola's dogs were sweet and did not bother us at all, very well behaved and stayed in the other side of the villa (Paola and her husband's residence) - which we were hardly aware was even there, the place is so private and quiet. The area we stayed is on the second floor, no elevator so if you cannot walk up a flight of stairs that would be a problem, but for us that was not an issue.

The location is excellent and near a train station - if you have a car you can drive and park (free parking) there, about 5 minutes away, again down a hill (not really that walkable unless you like to climb hills). The train is 15 minutes into Florence, leaves once per hour so very accessible to the city. Paolo is a FONT of knowledge about the area, if you want to know places in Florence she knows the best spots; if you want a ride into the country she knows the entire area as well. It was very helpful to talk with her about our options for the week we were there. I HIGHLY recommend this place - though I wonder if I do this, then it will become too busy for the next time we try to book it!!! I absolutely loved this villa, as you might tell. Great choice. (women were 55+ ages!!)

Room Tip: There is one queen bed in one room; the other rooms have twin beds. All were very, very comfortable...

I cannot begin to describe our experience staying at this Villa. The owner and hostess, Paola, along with Roberto our driver made our stay so exceptional. As a group of 8 relatives/friends, we stayed at the Villa for a week in mid-October, 2013. Paola greeted us with a fabulous food buffet when we arrived, took us into Firenze, accompanied us to an American Veterans cemetary, to the market, arranged for Carla (a fabulous chef) to fix us a dinner. I could go on and on. Roberto our excellent driver took us to wonderful little out of the way restaurants, to Tuscan walled towns, and made our holiday like something in the movies. Their command of the english language made everything so much easier for us. Paola's clean and fully equipped villa was beautiful, with our windows looking out over the Tuscan landscape. It just does not get any better than this! Margie M.

A magical place 15 minutes from Florence with the quintesential tuscan views. The best place to hold base and travel arround Tuscany and visit Florence. Wonderfull pool which makes for great pre and post daytrip activity with the kids. The experience is made even more special by the very lovelly housts Paola and Fabritzio. Definitely a place worth coming back as often as possible!

Our family of 6 stayed in the 4 bedroom Villa Calcinaia for an enchanting week. The villa offers everything you could hope for, two kitchens, 4 bathrooms (with hair dryers and amenities), washer and dryer, plasma tv, a cell phone for our use while in Italy, and even the use of her Tom Tom. Paola's tour of "her Firenze" was enchanting, providing us access to places others couldn't visit. She knew the best place for lunch and gelato, off the beaten path that tourists wouldn't have been able to find. The week we were visiting, two other families were staying with children my grandkids ages, so it was wonderful they had playmates after a long day of touring the Tuscan countryside. The swimming pool was a welcome treat after long days in the hot sun. Paola always had wonderful suggestions to make our day trips even better. She had tips we never would have known about. She just opened a new villa, making it three that she has available for rent. I would suggest you book early for a delightful week in this centrally located paradise. Close to major attractions, but tucked away amid olive groves for a quiet respite in the evening.

We just returned from spending a week (June 1 through June 8) at Villa Calcinaia and Villa Cipressi in Lastra a Signa, and words can't describe how wonderful and special Paola Cei Cinelli, the owner, made our vacation. This was the first time we booked a vacation through VRBO. When I first started looking for a place in Tuscany in December, 2012, I wanted to go somewhere that had lots of reviews and good ones because there are dozens of places to rent, but not very many have a lot of reviews.

Paola truly understands the importance of making your guests feel welcome, and she was most helpful in every way. From helping translate to coordinating a driver and chef, she specializes in making your vacation a special and memorable one. We felt so fortunate to be guests of hers as she accompanied us to Cinque Terre, Florence, and Rome, and we had loads of fun with her on these side trips. We were also lucky to have her with us when we went on a jeep tour to the Carrara Marble Quarry, and what an experience that was. Additionally, she gave us a terrific walking tour through Florence, and pointed out some of her favorite places for gelato, coffee, and breathtaking views of the city.

Since neither my husband nor I was comfortable driving in Italy, she provided the name of a driver, Roberto, who we hired to take us to the various side trips. When we asked Paola if she could also help arrange for a chef to prepare meals for a couple of evenings, she coordinated with Karla to cook for us. Absolutely delicious food and a delightful chef.

Paola's hospitality is second to none, and we are looking forward to returning!

Room Tip: Sunshine is wonderful in all bedrooms.

Wonderfull place to stay in Tuscany . The place seems to be paradise. We slept in the small Vila. And felt their at home. The are no words to describe Paola hospitality . She is a spacial person.
The place is closed to main roads and 15 minutes from the Florence center.
There is a huge supermarket 3 minutes driving from the villa.
Paola has a lot of tips and recommendation where to go and what to see.

My two friends and I booked a stay at Paola's beautiful Villa for a week in October during our travels in Europe. To say that her hospitality and accommodations were outstanding would be an understatement! The property itself was beautiful and set back in the Tuscan country side, yet not too far if you wanted to take a day trip to the city of Florence. Its location was perfect for exploring the Tuscan country side by car (which I highly recommend you rent one, Paola was very helpful with arranging this for us) and seeing all the sights that the Tuscany region has to offer. The hospitality was top notch from Paola and she made us feel right at home. We hope to return in the future!
