This hotel is a well-oiled machine for large parties, weddings etc. Arriving on a tour and all descending on reception together, the check-in process was surprisingly fast and efficient, and our suitcases were delivered to our rooms without error. I suspect if you travel in a smaller group you will feel slightly overwhelmed by the bigger groups and the hotel rather lacks in intimacy.
The banqueting facilities are impressive and the view across the fjord is stunning. At breakfast, however, all the best tables with a view were pre-allocated and my small group was shoved in a corner at the back.
The location is stunning and there are walks right from the door and a cultural centre opposite.

Room Tip: Overlook the fjord for the best view, although even the back rooms overlook mountains and little cab...

OK, so I have no idea how much our room cost because we were on a tour. A tour of very nice people. The whole thing was so pleasant and so was this hotel, which I presume from other posts was expensive. In fact, I believe this hotel has all kinds of special charges for different views, floors, etc. True, we didn't have a fjord view, but if we had had the best view everywhere we'd gone, the tour would have cost much more than it did. And we didn't have to pay separately for the food here, either, which I also take it was expensive and which was in a wonderful smorgasbord style feast both for breakfast and dinner. Staff was great as they cleared away our used plates promptly. At least the dining room looked out on the fjord. Not bad!

The hotel is a large old facility, with plenty of places to sit and talk with friends in public areas both inside and outside. The spa area was also very nice. By the way, one can use the inside heated pool and steam room, and the outside heated sauna for the cost of one's room. The only extra fee is if you go into the special spa area and get a massage. We were going to do that, but when we saw how nice it was to sit out in the sauna and look at the gorgeous mountains all around, we thought to ourselves, why?

Our room was fine and the view we did have was not bad, out to the mountains and the road below. We had no problem with it, except for the fact that, for some reason and throughout Scandinavia, the hotels favor two twin beds pushed together, resulting in an uncomfortable crack between a couple who might be used to sleeping truly together. No matter, our stay at Union Hotel in beautiful Geiranger was far closer to wonderful than problematic.

Room Tip: As noted, this hotel has numerous prices based upon views, floors, etc. So, ask and decide what you...

Located at "dream fjord" our room had a spectacular view of it. The rooms are comfortable despite the step between the big step between the living room and the bedroom. The bathroom was nice. The sad part was the food, horrible, everything tasted the same, meat, vegetables, salad, fish, dessert you name it. It all tasted the same. Moreover we were unlucky enough toa have breakfast after the tours departed and guess what, the buffet was not filled, so we had to gather here and there for our breakfast.

Room Tip: Like I said try to book a fjord view room.

While the hotel location gave good views of the fjord from the dining room, I got a lousy room which looked into another room. Seriously, I think that to enjoy this fjord and the seven sisters waterfall, a cruise that takes you up close supplemented by a coach tour would suffice. There's not real need to stay at any of the Geiranger hotels if one only wanted a quick look at the various famous views and not a serious hike.

We had heard about this old, classy hotel before booking and therefore accepted the rather steep price expecting high quality rooms and a decent garden view. Unfortunately, our room was very small, worn out, facing a parking lot/back-yard and located just above a very noisy ventilation system. We informed the reception staff about the noise, but that did not solve the problem. We also asked for a room with a better view when checking in, which would have cost another 500 NOK on top of the already high price, so we chose not to.. The spa is nice, but also comes at an additional cost, which it is actually worth - unlike the highly overpriced rooms.

Room Tip: Go for the spa, and book a hotel room somewhere else.

Yes, the view is beautiful. There's no getting over it.

But this hotel is very expensive for the independent, non-tour-bus traveler (clearly the minority at this hotel). The buffet is plentiful, but is it worth $90? The bar is cozy and comfortable, but would you pay $100 for a round of drinks for 4? Granted, this is Norway, but I expect a bit more glitz for that cost. Many rooms do afford beautiful views of the fjord, but they're also very expensive and sometimes outdated. I think it's worth doing some research into other hotels in the area that also offer fjord views. I'm sure they're better value. (Incidentally, I didn't try the spa, but I've heard good comments about it.)

A really beautiful hotel sitting above the harbour and fjord (about 10-12 minute walk up).
Superb food served buffet style and they manage to keep it all topped up even though there are large coach parties staying each night.
Best rooms have a balcony overlooking the garden and fjord.
The hotel also has a very nice swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi.

Room Tip: Fjord view with balcony
