“Wow! Fantastic in every way”
Reviewed 15 June 2007

Unfortunately we only stayed 1 night here, if we were ever in norway again we would make this our longest stop. The hotel itself is fabulous and well worth the extra we paid for any other in norway. We booked a standard double room and are not sure if we were upgraded as the room was superb - very spacious and split into 2 sections, a bed area and a seating area. There was a big flat panel TV built into the wall between the 2 sections and it rotated round. The whole room was very tastefully furninshed, clean and had a luxurious feel. The bathroom was the same with high quality looking fittings, although if there was one gripe it would be that the shower attachment on the bath had no high-level holder, so it was difficult to use it as a shower as there was nothing to hang it on. The room had a stunning view out over the fjord (which must be one of the most beautiful places on earth) and didn't suffer from the heat problems of other locations. The location of Geiranger itself is breathtaking and really is a must see for any visit. We took the evening buffet dinner and although not cheap the selection and quality of food was excellent and very much worth the money. The included breakfast buffet was the same, a great selection including plenty of choices for the non-continental european eater (i.e. more than just cold meats, cheeses and fish) - you'll make up the difference in cost with how much you'll eat. Once nice touch was a sliding screen beside the bath, which meant you could soak in the bath while looking out onto the fjord - excellent!

It was a marvelous scenery in this area, but the hotel had many faults... The food was average, but very expensive. The rooms were OK, small bathrooms and tepid water. We had a room with fjord-view, very nice view! But the service in this hotel was more or less poor. You felt that once you have payed for your room, they did not want to do anything more for you. The staff seemed to be a little "impudent", if you asked for help, it seemed like you were waisting theire time. They had no public computer in order, so you couldnt even check your e-mail. In Norway do the staff at the hotels normally have above average hospitality, but this was the poorest hotel i've been in in Norway, though it was expensive. With another staff-attitude this could have been a pleasant stay. I will not recommend this hotel if youre going to this area. There are many more cheaper and better hotels in this area, hotels were they treat you as a guest, not a moneymachine...

It's all about the scenery at a place like this. Forget about the unexceptional room, the small-ish bathroom, and the plain decor of the hallways.

Forget about the price of the accommodations and food. The food was actually quite good -- huge buffet breakfasts and dinners. But it's really all about the scenery.

The best advice I can give you is to pay the extra money for the Fjord View rooms. If you travel all that distance to get to this wondrous place, then you would be crazy not to stay in a Fjord View room.

I promise.
