We stayed at the Delfim in 2nd week of September. It was our 2nd visit (1st visit was two years ago) and we thought it was well worth coming back. Yes decor is a bit dated but it’s bright and the hotel is clean. Our room on the 10th floor had lovely views and was very spacious. Food was great with plenty of choice for each meal. The hotel has good sized grounds which is well looked after so you can always find some space for yourself without being affected by other guests if you like your own space.
The beach is a few minute’s walk from the hotel, and this section of beach is fantastic, with 3 or 4 rocky bays to one side, great to explore, swim in, or just sun-bathe, and this location, coupled with the lovely fishing village only a 15 minute walk away, is what makes Alvor so lovely, in our opinion. There are plenty of restaurants and places to have a drink if you want to eat out any night, very nice food and reasonably priced, and we loved the fact that you feel like you are mixing with the locals, not just at a busy tourist hot spot. Praia de Rocha is a 5 – 7 euro taxi ride away for livelier, more ‘touristy’ night life, and buses are about in the day. Definitely recommend to go for a walk down the beach early morning to enjoy the rocky bays whilst it’s empty and so relaxing, and wake yourself up with a swim!
We said we would never want to go to the same hotel twice but that was until we went to Alvor. We were concerned leading up to our re-visit if we might regret our decision, and we had read some of the negative reviews! But we weren’t disappointed. It was great to be back there and we could almost say that we enjoyed it more. I’m sure that this won’t the last time we stay there. Delfim hotel is a great place for anyone to use as a base, great for couples, and families, (don’t be put off if you’re not a golfer either! We aren’t.) We really don’t think that it deserves all the bad reviews we’ve read. You get what you pay for, and I think that people should look at the pictures/description of the hotel before they book it so they get a bit of an idea if they will like it or not. However, I do have to say, if you’re dependant on good cocktails in your holiday package, this is where I feel the hotel could learn something, Mojito’s and Pina Colada’s aren’t that great! Beer, wine & spirits are fine! When going next time, we’ll definitely stay at Delfim.
