“Wonderful for families and young children !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

This is our 2nd stay at the Alvor Baia, and once again we were not disappointed, fabulous !! The rooms are gorgeous and cleaned each day to a high standard !! Food lovely and the children's buffet was also good !! All inclusive drink great, wonderful selection to choose from and even a non alcoholic cocktail for the the little ones !

Alvor is a short walk from the hotel and well worth the walk, lovely authentic Portuguese fishing town with delightful harbour ! And the beach is also lovely a short walk also, however the hotel do put on a free bus for guest so no need to walk if you do not wish !

We had a bus pass which allowed us to hop on the bus outside the hotel and take one of many trips to portamo, lovely city well worth the trip.

We travelled with our 21 month old and he loved the onsite park and splash pool, there is also a kids club but children have to be 4 to attend he did however go in with us for a look around at the toys. The main entertainment of a evening was the children's disco also fab, we did attend a quiz one night hosted by our holiday rep Lucy which was also a good night and extremely family
friendly !

Honestly can not say anything bad about this hotel or resort, all I will say is some guests, mainly couples have obviously not researched there hotel before going as this hotel is advertised as FAMILY FRIENDlY and most certainly is that, we got the impression from a few guest they were not expecting children to be there or shouldn't be, all I would say to these people is do not book a family resort for your holiday if you don't like children, maybe book through sandals or something like this were there is guaranteed no children not a family resort !!!!

We stayed for two weeks from the 3rd oct to the 17th the weather could not have been better and neither could the hotel or friendly helpful hotel staff. Gorgeous, fabulous family holiday and will most defo be returning for a 3rd visit next year for one of our holidays.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely would advise pool room view as is a gorgeous site all lit up at night, but any...

Customer service was outstanding throughout the whole staff team. The Portugese seem to have a customer focus gene that is distinctly absent in Spain! We were made to feel welcome and valued throughout the whole week. The hotel is only 3 years old, beautifully designed, spacious, contemporary and relaxing. The bedrooms are superb: huge, more space than you need, a lounge area with large flat screen TV on the wall (another one in the bedroom), a kitchenette with a hob, water boiling pan (take a kettle if you want to make tea: the pan takes a while!), fridge, sink and dining table. The corridors, lifts, restaurants, lobby, outside space, pool etc are all spotless. The all inclusive drinks were great and the food of above average quality in some ways but never hot enough (they need better UV lights at the serveries) and not much variety (no piri piri chicken in an entire week!) - but definitely good enough. The salad bar was superb and breakfasts very good too. The on tap beer and wine in the restaurant was top class and included a sparkling white and a chilled red as well as room temperature red, chilled white and rose. A couple of negatives that prevent a 5 star rating: the dining area was a little basic - not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner (although there are a few decent restaurants in the traditional hamlet of Alvor - ten minutes walk and a 3 Euro taxi ride back). No al fresco dining at all. No loungers on the balconies. The parasols are hopelessly inadequate - spinning around and even blowing away in anything more than a light breeze (and it can get very windy, which is not unpleasant in the high temperatures we experienced - high 20s even in October). Overall - an excellent hotel but we wouldn't go back, mainly because we prefer to be nearer to a decent and busy resort. Alvor is okay but a bit too far away and a bit down market.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view or you will be allocated a room that overlooks the front of the hotel

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Trip Advisor following your recent stay at Hotel Alvor Baia. We value each and every Guests review and appreciate the time you take out to write them. We here Alvor Baia aim to please and satisfy our guests and truly excel to provide an unforgettable and memorable Holiday Experience.

We are very impressed on the attention to detail that you have shown during your holidays, with our service and Staff. Indeed, costumer service is for us the most important asset because basically is what distinguishes us from the competitors - although we have to agree with you. The Portuguese in general are experts in the Art of welcoming and costumer services practices.

Many thanks again for all your inputs, the not so positives also and we will be waiting for your next visit in Alvor to check for yourself all the improvements on the following season.

We have just returned from the Alvor Baia Hotel after a one week break and what a wonderful hotel this is. Everything rooms, food, drink, pool, staff absolutely everything was excellent. It is so spacious and the relaxed atmosphere throughout was just what we were looking for. Alvor the village is still uncommercialised and the harbour is beautiful. You could sit and chill here all day with a drink or a coffee. Would thoroughly recommend Alvor and especially the Alvor Baia Hotel and its smiling staff to everyone. Well done to all the staff on a brilliant job.

Room Tip: we had room 129 and overlooked the pool area and had the morning sun but we had no evening sun which...

Stayed here for one week in October at the end of the season so found this holiday a bargain!
The hotel is exactly as described so I will not go into any more details apart to say that the accommodation was great.
The staff are to be congratulated from the people behind the scenes (domestic and catering), to the reception, bar staff and dining room staff. All very pleasant and helpful - and of course congratulations to the chefs who did an excellent job.
The food was excellent, well prepared and presented, with plenty of choice. The salads and sweets were particularly appetising and it was a change to have lots of fresh fruit available.
Of course, you can never please everyone, but if you expect everything to be what you have at home, then why bother going abroad?
There were people of all ages there as it was October. I imagine the summer months will be very busy with families but would think this would be an ideal family hotel.
A free bus is provided to the beach which was much appreciated, perhaps it could have an extra stop along the way so people could walk to the town or harbour?
Unfortunately there was only one restaurant open at this time of year, which meant there was no adult only restaurant in the evening which may not suit everyone.
We managed to have a great holiday despite there being no iron, ironing board or kettle in the room (a disappointment to some people in previous reviews!!!)

Room Tip: We were lucky to be given a room on the first floor, poolside, not directly above the pool but in a...

Arrived Alvor Baia Apartamentos just after 11.00 am following a 6.00 am flight from Glasgow Airport. Faro Airport not the best organised I have travelled through but we made it! An hour transfer on a comfortable coach along some on the best roads I have encountered on my travels.

Check in was painless despite numbers arriving on same bus and our room was immediately available for us, despite normal, 4.00 pm check-in time! Room excellent, loads of space with separate lounge/kitchen area and extensive bedroom. Kitchen area has sink, cooking hob, refrigerator and adequate cupboard space with pot, crockery, cutlery & even a tea towel!

Only slight concern was the large cracks in the kitchen wall and the bathroom tiles. Maybe just settlement in Room 24 on level 0.

Food has been excellent. Great range of choices for all courses at breakfast, lunch and dinner. By far the best selection of freshly cooked fish dishes I have come across: from the local specialty, sardines to salmon; cuttlefish; cod and the oddly-named scabbard fish! Don't look it up on Google if you fancy trying it! Although we also had milk shark, perch and ray during the first week. You can tell I don't eat meat or poultry? But there's more than enough variety to suit all tastes and everything looks so fresh with regular top ups and an extensive range of salads, vegetables, desserts and fruits.

The food labelling leaves a lot to be desired though! I overheard some poor woman questioning a member of staff about a dish which was labelled vegetarian. It was basically some croquettes on one side with some mix of braised vegetables on the other, with slashed frankfurters in the middle. "Yes, vegetarian" he assured her. But I wasn't convinced!

Beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic are self service and include beer and several different wines, fruit juices and sodas, hot drinks and water on tap. Unfortunately the tea & coffee machine is only available at breakfast, Not quite sure why. No table service but places are cleared promptly and efficiently, no grabbing of plates as some previously reported!

The noise level in the dining room is down to one thing and one thing only; the behaviour of the people eating there! If folk would lift chairs rather than scrape them across floors and converse at a reasonable volume instead of shouting, it would be a more pleasant environment for all.

I do think, however a separate children's area or dining time might cut out some of the screeching. But then so would consideration for fellow guests and responsible parenting!

We arrived on 26th September, so things has started to slow down. Only one restaurant was open and there was no fighting for sun beds. It did appear to be busier at weekends with family groups from Spain and Italy raising the noise levels!

So if you didn't enjoy your trip to this hotel, maybe you should ask why you go on holiday at all? Nothing will ever be100% perfect, so chill out and make the most of it.

We have to thank you for the extensive food & Beverage reporting with all the options available in a daily basis.
Normally, with the main season we have a dedicated children eating area. Nowadays with only one restaurant open it does not exist.
Also, we will take care of those cracks on the kitchen wall - thanks for the insight.

We will be expecting your return any time soon,

Pros - Nice modern hotel, rooms fantastic, food good for AI, the pool is large so there is never a shortage of sunbeds! Great location with regard to Alvor... Which is a lovely resort , worth eating out in town a couple of times, and a few nice bars to frequent as well

Cons - Restaurant setting felt cafe like, upstairs bar seating too small
