“Brilliant hotel and a brilliant holiday”
Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

I really don't understand the negative reviews for this hotel. I have just come home from a great weeks all inclusive holiday. I went with my wife and 2 year old and friends who also have a 2 year old. The hotel itself was clean and modern and the rooms were cleaned daily. I emailed before travelling with a request for us both to have rooms together which I got a response within a few days to say that it would be ok and when I got there it was. The food was good and we felt there was plenty of choice and different options each day. The restaurant was noisy but there were no issues as it's a family hotel and kids do tend to be noisy. We did have to queue for drinks but as I'm not royalty I'm pretty used to that so not sure why it's an issue for some people. We never had any problems getting sun beds together and the pool and park were both excellent for the kids. I will agree that the pool was cold but most are when you first get in. The poolside does get windy in the afternoon but this was very welcome as the whole area is a sun trap. All the staff we had dealings with were very helpful and professional and we had no issues at all with them. Alvor itself is a beautiful little place that is at max a 15 min walk or a whole €3.50 in a taxi away. All in all this is a great hotel in a great place and I will be going again as soon as possible.

Would really recommend this hotel!

Food - there were two restaurants both offered the same food but slightly different times. We usually get fed up of all inclusive by the second day but only ended up eating out 2 evenings during the week.

Pool - spotlessly clean and the hotel really does operate a no reserving of sunbeds policy which meant you could get a bed at most times of the day. The fantastic park near the pool was ideal for the kids and we could watch our slightly older children from the sunbeds round the pool. There was a breeze everyday but I found this just made the hear more tolerable.

Room - was cleaned everyday, very spacious. But as one of previous reviews states the gap between the partition meant that sound between the bedroom and the living room really did carry.

Free wifi - there was free wifi in the reception area of the hotel which was easily accessed.

Beach - fab free reliable bus to and from beach. Would recommend walking down the main road and through the car park to access the beach as this takes you to the rocks. The sand is fantastic and the water clear. The rocks offered some shade and was great for finding hidden caves, sone shade in parts and hunting crabs/shellfish.

The not so great bits -
- the entertainment in general needs improving. The kids club wasn't great and my 7 year old only attended when they were playing football and otherwise refused to go. The evening entertainment area and the entertainment itself felt like an afterthought and I did feel the hotel let itself down a bit with this
- service at the pool bar and bars was slow and we often had to queue.

On the whole a fab family holiday and we are thinking of going back next year!

On arriving in Faro, it took us 1 hour 10 mins to get through passport control. They only had 2 members of staff checking passports. Then it took 1 hour 55 mins to get to our hotel. Hotel looked amazing. Rooms are very spacious and very clean. If you have a room that faces the hospital then you wont get any sleep as across the road there is a house that has a cockrel, geese and 2 dogs that constantly bark at night. The pool is huge and there is plenty of sunbeds.
Food is not 4 star. I would give it 3 star and only just. Canteen is what your getting, very noisey. Hope you like fish. Try the SPA. t was great.Worth the 10 euros. Would i go back. Not sure.

Room Tip: Dont get a room facing the hospital.

I guess this hotel would be ok if you are not a foodie and have young children. I stayed here for four nights with my sister and her family. I would not recommend staying here as a couple or single traveler.

The hotel itself is very modern and very clean. The rooms are big, with two separate rooms( a bedroom and a living area with kitchen) although there is a gap along the top of the dividing wall.. Therefore no good if you have children who are light sleepers.

The location is 20 min walk to the beach and about the same to a nice harbour area in two different directions.

The restaurants are busy, noisy and not an enjoyable experience.. The food is just about edible if you are hungry.

The staff are all helpful and friendly.. Thank you all for that.

Transfer time from airport is 1 hour or up to 2 hours if you use a shuttle transfer.

In summary, very clean, friendly staff and kids everywhere.

We have just returned home after a week at the hotel in a party of 10 ages ranging from 63 to 3. The hotel is a lovely big, airy, modern hotel which is kept spotlessly clean at all times. The rooms follow along the same theme being big, modern and airy and very clean (maid service daily). The food is of a really good all inclusive standard, some days you were spoilt for choice others were slightly more limited, however it is all presented beautifully and replenished regularly. There are two restaurants which both serve the same food but green is set up better for children with a separate childrens buffet serving pizza, chicken nuggets, lasagne etc
The pool area is massive and excellently set up so it receives the sun all day. It also gets very breezy especially in the afternoon but it really is welcomed as it stopped the heat from becoming unbearable.
The only downsides to the hotel were;
1) there are no self service drinks stations (unlike in most all inclusives) in the bar areas so you have to queue for every drink from the bar which can be hellish in the sun (one pool bar with a maximum of 2 people serving)
And
2)the entertainment wasn't fantastic in the evenings but the children enjoyed the disco and were enthralled by the magic show!
However I would still wholeheartedly recommend this hotel, we all loved it!

Room Tip: We were in rooms in the 270s and although quite a walk from the lift they were extremely quiet and h...

We have just got back from this amazing hotel. The staff treated us like royalty. My five year old girl loved it. Kids club staff were fantastic with her made her feel very welcome. Food was gorgeous and fresh everyday. There was a wide range of choice everyday we didn't eat out once. The hotel was extremely clean. Bar had a wide choice of drinks too. We are looking at booking next year and we have only been home 3 hours.
A very enjoyable holiday staff were very friendly. Helen , Mike and Ruby Birchall. Xx
