We were really looking forward to staying here............... But left feeling very disappointed!! As a few people have said this is not a true 5 star hotel! You don't even have a iron and ironing board in your room... Come on even Travelodge have that, no stocked mini bar and no free wifi in your room either... Some of the facilities are lovely and the setting and view (from a seaview room) is fantastic and on the whole it is a nice hotel.... But not 5 star and you expect a lot more for the money you pay.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon after getting married in Alvor, and as I said we were really looking forward to staying here as it is the only 5 star hotel in Alvor and the setting seemed perfect. I found the rooms nice but not 5 star nice and the whole hotel had a slightly tired feel for a 5 star hotel. The worst thing was the staff are extremely rude and that was the main reason for such a poor rating, I felt like we were an inconvenience and that they only really wanted to be nice to the guests that you could see had plenty of money and the rest of the guests just got in the way! They were also very rude to my wife on the morning of the wedding day as she dared sit on a six seater table in the restaurant, when there was only four of them!!

For the money we paid this hotel was such a let down and would not rush back to stay here!!

Had a very enjoyable 10 days at Pestana Alvor Pria Hotel with family. Took two rooms with sea view.this is third time in hotel and fifth in the area. Alvor very nice and Lagos nice but busier.
Staff at hotel very friendly and welcoming and helpful . Brilliant location, sea facing is the only way, get a superior room with upstairs level for the views, rooms cleaned daily at a consistent time which is nice to a good standard freshened up in the evening which is a lovely touch. Breakfasts best meal of day here but lots of options locally for dinner such as o Louis and Atlantico on the beach, good mini market called Orange on the holiday village to left facing the hotel for your small everyday items etc. pool is magnificent , sauna and steam room are basic , sunbeds are scarce enough but you can get one if you search but the beach ones are very scarce. The hotel is fading a bit from
It's traffic and heavy use but overall it's a good beach hotel and condition , do I recommend it yes. Would I go back , yes , could it be improved upon possibly but those are only the small things. There were two small weddings there when we were there, I reckon if people choose this hotel for that special occasion in their lives on such a consistent basis as seems to be the case it is doing a lot right .

Just returned after 10 days and have to agree that this hotel is not up to the standard of last year. It was six days before sheets were changed, and then they replaced them with sheets that had holes in! Being aware of environment we didn't change all towels everyday but we didn't expect when putting them in the bath for a change they would just take them out and hang them back on the towel rail damp! Also the rooms were not given a proper clean. Breakfast was the best meal of the day as evening bland and tasteless. On the plus side the waiters were charming. The main attraction is location with a fantastic beach area, albeit loungers and shades in desperate need of updating. Please get your act together and bring this back up to the standard of what is expected for a 5 Star hotel.

Not sure on what basis this hotel gets a 5 star rating. While the location and the views are outstanding and stunning I found the Hotel worn and in need of refurbishment. We stayed for 2 weeks Half board and upgraded from a standard twin to a standard twin with sea view. But the amenities in the room were basic. There were no tea or coffee making facilities, no hair dryer, ironing facilities etc. The chest of drawers were collapsing and did not open and close correctly.i.e. you opened the top drawer and the second drawer opened at the same time. The carpets (yes carpets) were dirty and the area around the fridge (big enough to put a couple of cans of soft drinks in) was stained. The air conditioning did not work properley and took four days to be repaired regardless of the fact that the Thomsons rep' also spoke to the Hotel on our behalf. We asked about an upgrade to a Superior room. When we were shown the room it was one fllor up and it was identical to our existing room. The price to upgrade was 15 euro a night. For that you got a slightly better view, no extra amenities so beware. The drinks were astronomical in price as was the food if only B&B. Beware of the Wine prices at dinner. We bought a bottle of Portugeuse wine highly recommended by the waiter. It cost us 21 Euro. The exact same botttle of wine at the local supermarket 800mtrs away was 5 euro!!!!! I know they need to make a profit but come on.We did speak to our rep' about the price, who spoke to management, they were of the view that as a 5 star Hotel this was a reasonable price!!!!!!!Had it been a wine that was not on sale locally at four times less maybe I would not have been as agrieved.
The food while not 5 star standard was on the whole good. There were two BBQ nights where the food was excellent, shame there were not more nights like these.
Make sure you get up early in the morning, if not you will struggle to get a sun bed,yep first come first served I 'm sure some people never went to bed and just camped on the sun beds for 2 whole weeks. On the positive side the beech is gorgeous, but if you want a free sun bed then you need to get down to the beech early in the morning as the towel brigade are as active here as the pool. The caves/cliffs are well worth a look, and the people are genuinely friendly and want to help.
Would I go to the Hotel again. NO. Not for me or the wife. Would I go to the resort. Yes. Alvor is lovely and its set in a really nice location and has (for now) managed to retain some of its village appeal and authenticity.

We were underwhelmed by the Algarve coast in general – basically drove it in its entirety east to west along N125 exploring our options. We picnicked at Cacela Velha, a sweet little Portuguese seaside village east of Tavira, which we would highly recommend to all as an undisturbed pearl, but found the coast often reminded us more of Myrtle Beach than Monaco and we were not impressed enough to stop. Finally settled on Alvor toward the western edge of the beachopolis. It’s a cute little enclave if you like Pubs and Indian cuisine and a population of British tourists, and we elected to check into the Pestana Alvor Praia resort down the strand to avoid what we could of the crowd.

The Pestana Alvor Praia advertises itself as a 5 star hotel, which we don’t quite get. It has a nice beach and a somewhat private location at one end of the beach, but it is a little moldy around the edges and in many respects not worth the $300 per night we paid. The food offered, cruise ship buffet grade at best, was not anything to write home about. The front desk staff, however, was fun and helpful and arranged a good room for us without any prior reservations. We liked our location in the main building 5 floors up facing the ocean; recently remodeled (2006?), great balcony and view, and entertaining offbeat décor. At night, the lights of Lagos a little ways up the coast were a nice romantic backdrop. So we survived the Algarve in some style, but just a warning to fellow travelers to pick and choose wisely when visiting this area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room w/ balcony facing the ocean.

From when we walked in with our cases to when we left the staff were incredible. They take your cases to your room for you and are very welcoming. First opinion on the hotel was fab, clean and surely not dated. The bed was incredibly comfy, bathroom super clean, towels changed daily. We had room 312 and were impressed with the sea view we had. People complain about a little tree infeont of them clearly. Breakfast was amazing, too much choice. The outdoor pool was clean and lovely and refreshing. The indoor pool was also lovely, however the people this hotel seems tp attract is horrendous, arrogant people. Irish families who talk sp loud its hard to relax, letting their kids in the indoor pool when there is a huge outsidw pool with the sun shining. We rarely got a chance to go in the jacuzzi because of these kids and families. They are also very rude. And racists towards brits. That was the most unfortunate part of the holiday, not all are arrogant but most are. If you want a sunbed you need to be up at 6am, thats the only down thing about the hotel itself. Lovely surrondings, lovely location. Approx 5 euro for a cab to alvpr, 25min walk. Have been to alvor fpe years now, its a lovely place. We will not be staying at this hotel again unfortunatley, people really make you feel little.

Room Tip: Sea views are lovely, however the garden rooms look peaceful!:)

Have just returned from a lovely holiday at this very nice hotel. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly (apart from the lady on the reception whose reply to my question on our arrival 'is our room in a fairly quiet position' (which when booking we had requested) was 'what do you expect in a hotel of our size that is fully booked'!!). We needn't have worried, the room was fabulous, as was the position overlooking the gardens and a wonderful sea view. Our Thomson rep, Sophie, was lovely, friendly and always on hand in the event we needed anything. She was very professional and articulate when speaking to us at the welcome and departure meetings. The food was great (we booked half board which was a first for us as we usually go B & B and eat out, but we were unfamiliar with the area so decided that we'd go half board, eat out and always have the hotel to 'fall back on'). However, the hotel food was absolutely delicious and we didn't eat anywhere else during the duration of our two week holiday! The beach is wonderful, the hotel is in a great position. Didn't use the lift facility as going up and down the stairs to the beach was the only exercise we had during this very relaxing holiday! Back now, full to the brim with pastel de nata cakes (check them out and you too will come back half a stone heavier!!). Only downside was the bar prices which were ridiculously expensive and, as a previous reviewer has said, was the entertainment more up to scratch it may have been justified. We'll be back next year!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room, third floor, overlooking the gardens!! We were in room 340, it was the per...
