“Nice hotel for early season”
Reviewed 5 April 2010

Nice clean hotel, friendly staff, when we went (easter) it was fairly quiet, wouldnt want to be there in the high season as the pools, restaurant and other facilities will get packed. eg. the indoor pool is small and the jacuzzi is tiny. this is not a 4* hotel but it was a decent place to stay and easy walk into town, 15 mins ish and another 5 mins to very nice beaches. buffet breakfast did the job, but again expect to queue for it if its busy in the season. would consider coming back if we hotelled it again but will probably self cater.

One of the best holidays we've had in a while. Lovely quiet location. Excellent food, friendly staff, lovely room with balcony overlooking the outside pool. Thanks

We stayed at the Yellow Alvor for our family holiday - 10 nights. The rooms are smallish, but adequate and clean. Found the hotel in very good nick, also the staff were very friendly, especially a couple of the waiters. Food is average, but adequate, and in our opinion has enough selection to choose from.

Pool was very nice, perhaps our only comment was it became a little unclean, and we did complain once or twice, and they came along and seemed to deal with it. The problem is no-one showers before they enter the pool and it looked like sun cream on top of the water.

Evening entertailment is absolutely rubbish, and we did struggle to keep our child entertained. He became a very good chess player, and completed all his DS games.

Alvor centre is very cute, traditional and nice to walk around. We decided to eat out 4 nights, and my son would recommend the ribs. Meals out were very nice, about 70 euro's for 3 and drinks.

Beach was good, but needed to take a bus from the hotel. Driver was really nice, and always spoke politely to us. Give him a euro or 2 a day.

Overall, we enjoyed our trip and it was very good value.

TIP: We always take a small kettle, pack of t bags, and coffee, sweetners and powder milk - sad I know but needed.

When we first arrived I have to admit that I did panic as it seemed as if we were in the ar*ehole of nowhere!! But after a few hours we were in our element. This was our honeymoon & we took our 8 month old son with us. The rooms were lovely, very clean & staff were very friendly. We went to the hotel next to us everynite for their entertainment as it was outside & a bit better than yellow alvors.

The walk into Alvor is only about 10 mins!!
Will definately be back to this hotel!

We had not booked and were surprised to have such difficulties finding a room, as there was a portuguese national holiday. We were lucky to get a bad at the Yellow hotel, but this is about it. The hotel is quite out of town in an appartment complex. The staff was unfriendly and we had to pay the whole stay in advance (first and only time we had to do this). The room had a splendid view on the car park and the next building. No towels were made available for using the pool. The breakfast room was charmless. To be fair, the room was clean and very quiet, and the price was quite low. Just do not expect a 4 star level.

This was our 5th consecutive year at the Yellow Alvor (formerly Iberotel ) and we were not dissapointed.Yes the food can be a bit "samey" , especially breakfast , but you are not paying the prices for Cordon Bleu or cooked to order food and the beauty of the "Buffet Style service" is that you can mix & match as you please. Having spoken to the hotel manager,we understand that there will be some refurbishment going on between 1st November & 1st February while the place, normaly open all year, is closed.
With regard to some comments made about the staff being unfriendly or unwilling to help, we must say that we have never had this experience in the 5 years that we have been going there.Paula & Paolo on the reception are always extremely helpful as are the restaurant & bar staff.
As for Alvor itself, what a gem it is,as yet unspoilt but the builders and property developers are moving in very quickly and we fear that by our next visit in 2010 things may have changed, and not for the better. This may be progress for the population of Alvor but we worry that the place will lose the quaintness that makes it so appealing.

Very small reception area and bar seating approx. 50. Junior suite - room ok but balcony very small. Rooms cleaned daily and linen/towels changed. little entertainment & insufficient room to sit. Restaurant - staff pleasant, breakfasts poor, fried eggs once in 10 days, bacon 1/2 cooked or burnt. Dinner reasonable selection. hotel bus 4 times per day, 20 m in walk to Alvor, but buses easily available to other resorts. Try the fish restaurants by the old harbour and Nico's for coffee, near the bus stop in centre.
weather great, v/ hot for October. Grounds superb, lots of loungers but need mattresses for comfort, small tables would be helpful. Would grade as a 3* at most, hotel closes end October to February.
