After discovering the O Bote restaurant some 6 weeks ago, we have revisited time and time again and have always left feeling that we had had the best meal in town. My husband and I always go for either the seabass or the bream and have NEVER been dished up a mediocre meal. The accompaniment to this sumptuous dish is served with boiled potatoes, veges and a lovely salad. Unlike a previous review, we have never ever had to wait an hour for our food and we have found the owner and staff to be extremely friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant and seriously regret that the family who gave it such a scathing review had such a 'bad' experience. I sincerely hope that anybody reading their review will then read mine and hopefully will not be put off having a meal at O Bote and being able to judge for themselves. Thank you Domings, Gabbi, Ricardo and Zelda for all the wonderful meals we have had at your restaurant and for the warmth and friendliness you have shared with us. See you in the week! I visited O Bote for Sunday lunch with my husband, mother, sister and our two young children, based purely on the glowing reviews on tripadvisor. What a disaster!! We ordered a couple of garlic prawns and some garlic bread to share, both of which came after a little while. The prawns were ok; quite a small portion and pretty tasteless though. The garlic bread was a joke: two pieces of bread the size of my hand constituted two portions at almost 3 Euros a portion! When we mentioned we thought this was a small portion, we were bought another, but this was added to the bill as a third garlic bread. 9 euros for 3 small slices of bread… Anyway, the main course then hadn't arrived after over another hour. By this time we'd been in the place for over an hour and a half.. and we were the only customers there. We were told "2 minutes, no problem" when we asked whether the food was going to be much longer. Except it was a problem for us, but no apology was forthcoming. Another 10 minutes later it arrived, on cold plates, cold fish (which had been freshly cooked I know, but had obviously been left to go cold by the time it came upstairs) without any of the accompaniments that were supposed to come with it. We'd had enough but this time, so we left. We were charged the full price for everything we had had thus far, including the most expensive garlic bread in Europe. When we said we did not feel it fair to be asked to pay for the food we had had in full, my husband was treated to a mouthful of (what sounded like) aggressive abuse in Portuguese but the guy who had been doing the cooking (the owner?). All of this while my husband was holding our very tired, bored and hungry three year old daughter. We were absolutely disgusted with the lack of service, poor quality food and complete couldn't-give-a-damn attitude of this place. Seriously, ignore all the other reviews and do not waste your time or money on this place. The view is stunning. Everything else is not.

This is tucked next to the large fish restaurants at the front so easy to miss it or thinks it's part of restaurant next door. Don't miss it. You can enjoy the views and atmosphere (including the jazz next door on a Sunday) without the prices or bustle of the big restaurants. Really lovely food ( especially sardines) and very friendly owners who were so lovely with the children.
