“Lovely holiday”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

Just returned today from a lovely 16 night stay.
Although the apartment block was looking a bit tired in places and could do with a bit of sprucing up but we had a lovely large and spotlessly clean apartment, Mainly done out in all white I do think a bit more colour could be added to the apartment even if just the bed covers as to begin with it is a bit much on the eyes but you get use to it, lovely comfortable beds and nice and quite although of course it is late in the year. One minus point is that you do not have a table and chairs on the blacony instead there are deck chairs and a small odd shaped thing just enough if careful to place two glassed on and I expect like me a lot of people like to eat their breakfast at least on the balcony so that was a bit of a disappointment. Our balcony looked on the wicker canopy of the cafe and there were a few things that had been flung on there that should have been removed minor but should be done but I don't think the maids sweep the balconies so I don't expect anyone has noticed so could have been there for sometime.

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and hard to beat and a short walk through them to the beaches which I thought were stunning.

We ate a few times at the little cafe/restaurant at the apartments and the food was nice and not too pricey. We did use the pool quite a few times but do think that some of the sunbeds need replacing and the it wouldn't take much for the couple of umbrellas with bits missing to be fixed, it is the attention to detail that makes a good hotel an excellent one. We also ate in Miss Pasta on about four occasions and the food was delicious and the service good, the waitress Madalena was lovely, very friendly and smiling, which we did notice the Portugese don't seem to do very much. I would definately recommend Miss Pasta, just like to say that the other young waitress was also very pleasant but we did not see much of her.
I was luckily with my phone as somehow I managed to get free Wifi on it until my husband took it for a swim in his trunk pocket ! the internet access that you have to pay was extremely slow the couple of times we tried to use it.
There is a ATM in the hotel not that you would know it but I found it on the last day! it is behind the PC's behind a large screen and you would only see it if you used the toilets near the reception, it would be a good idea for this information to be put in the info book in the rooms as we walked all the way into Alvor to go to the cash point. A steady walk to Alvor took us about 25 minutes and there is a path all the way if you go right up the hill at the second roundabout. We also walked in to Praia Da Rocha which took us about 45 mins.

We had a lovely relaxing holiday and only the minor things, a bit of tidying, I mentioned need fixing, we would go here again but think we will try somewhere with a bit of entertainment next year, we like a quiet holiday but it would be nice if there was something going on a couple of nights a weeks otherwise we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Stayed here in may 2013 the apartment was good and clean had asked for ground floor apt on booking which I followed up with phone call to hotel couple of weeks before departure and told no problem would sort out,on arrival then told sorry no ground floor available I had requested as had young baby and elderly relative but staff didn't seem to pushed to try accommodate us . The sunbeds at the pool are a disgrace and should have been replaced years ago also thee was broken tiles in the swimming pool . They hotel don't give complimentary wi fi but also charge a fortune for the service if required . The complex itself needs standards to improve as the whole place seems grubby and could do with freshing up . We have stayed here for on 4 previous occasions but I think unless standards improve dramatically this will be the last . For such a beautiful setting it 's sad to see this once special place become a thing of the past

Got back on Friday from a week at The Prainha Club.

Had a great break although there is one thing that I feel should be shared. The Prainha, like other hotels abroad, is not shy when it comes to charging extortionate prices for little extras!
To be charged almost a tenner sterling for 2 (very small) paper cups of soft drink and 2 bags of crisps is, I think, a little over the top. Especially when you can go to the local supermarkets and get a can for 60cents.
Having said that, the place is spotlessly clean and although looking a little tired now still great value. Its safe, clean and the staff (mostly) are lovely, even remembered us from other visits.
Only other thing, if you didnt fancy the 20 minute or so walk in to the local village it means a taxi back and forth as it isnt in a town at all. So thats adds up too.
Still great place to go adn will be returning.

Room Tip: Most rooms overlook the pol.

We have stayed in Prianha village on numerous occasions in the past ten years. We go back Again and again because it is quite, simple, (admit the numbering system of the village is not at all simple) and safe/secure. The complex has probably one of the best pools in Portugal (the Atlantic pool) with panoramic views of the sea that one would die for. Many people complain that one has to pay seven euro each day for this but our experience is that it stops people from putting towels on chairs the night before and arriving the next day at 5 pm. Well worth seven euro to stop this selfish behaviour. There is another pool in the complex which is free of charge. The plus side is that the complex is tidy, safe and friendly. The negative side is that the numbering system of the apartments are complicated , the chairs at the free pool are in urgent need of replacement , and for some unexplained reason, wi fi is not free in the complex. Prianha catch up before you all your loyal customers are lost!

We have recently been to the Praihna Club and really enjoyed our stay. Ok, the place is looking a little tired, but the grounds and villa's / apartments are kept immaculately clean, our villa had cleaners in almost every day during our stay.
The Atlantic pool is a gorgeous place to spend the day relaxing, and there is never any trouble finding sunbeds, unlike in some other places I've been to.
Some of the staff may be a little grumpy but if you go with the flow you'll get on fine.
There is great access to the nearest beach, which is absolutely beautiful and really nice for a swim. Safe too.
Our villa could have done with air-con. but after a few days of acclimatizing, all was ok. It would have been essential if there had been a serious heatwave during our stay, we were lucky that the temperatures kept below 31C when we were there.
We'd return in a heartbeat, was sad to have to return home.

We stayed here recently as a family of 3. Our apartment (407) was spacious and clean. We were checked in quickly and efficiently by the helpful reception staff. We arrived about 9pm at night and were able to get a meal at Miss Pasta.

The pool closest to the apartments has plenty of free sunbeds/umbrellas and we didn't experience any sunbed bagging. The pool was kept clean and tidy. There is a queue at the shop in the morning because it sells the most amazing freshly baked baguettes, rolls and custard tarts. We found the supermarket to be reasonably priced given its location, yes branded/imported products were more expensive but who goes on holiday to eat Alpin! We did a bigger shop at the Ali Super in town.

The pool bar serves good snacks during the day, but have to agree with others that the hotel lacks atmosphere in the evening, keeping the bar open with some music on would help greatly. We did choose the hotel as it didn't have a kids club but it was a little too quiet in the evenings.

There is good bus service from the Prainha, the number 14 during the week and the 1P at the weekends cheaper than a taxi as young children are free. The timetables are available online and there is a post in the Alvor forum with the links available. The walk into town is about 20 minutes for adults walking on their own, and slightly longer if you have dawdling kids. The taxi home is cheaper if you get out at the roundabout where the Prainha private villas are located, rather than the reception entrance.

We happily spent most of our holiday at the poolside. We hired a car for 3 days and enjoyed trips to Zoomarine and Slide & Splash, you can get discounted tickets booking online in advance or from the leaflets that are handed out at the airport.

Would recommend these apartments if you are after a quiet relaxing holiday.

We have just returned from 11 nights family holiday with three young children.
When we arrived there was a long queue at reception for checking in and only one staff member on duty. This was repeated during our stay with big delays for weary tourists.
We were charged 2.50 per day for the room safe and the internet was 6 euro per hour.
The apartment was spacious and was well stocked with everything we needed.
The apartment was cleaned to a high standard everyday except Sundays.
The supermarket on site was very good but expensive and there was always a queue in the morning when it opened at 9am.
We had only one meal in the restaurant on site which was fine. There was only one bar at the pool and we would have loved if there was some music or entertainment especially for the children in the evening.
The pool was fine but sometimes crowded with towels being left out in the early morning to reserve the sunbeds.
The beach was a 10 min walk but was fabulous if a little crowded sometimes.
The only significant issue with this village is its location. We were unable to walk to Alvor as it is a 30/40 min walk and there was no footpaths for most of the journey. We ended up using taxis which cost between 5 to 9 euro each way. This added significant extra cost to our holiday.
A shuttle bus from the hotel would be helpful at evening times.
We wouldn't return to this hotel as its location is just too far away from Alvor.

Room Tip: Room 501 is the largest with a great view
