“Perfect relaxation”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

This hotel is perfectly situated - just a few meters from shops and beach. There is a lovely wide promenade all along the beach area (no hills to climb - all flat) with plenty of seats. The staff in this hotel were amazing, always smiling, helpful and courteous. All areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean, bedrooms have everything you need and towels etc changed regularly. A pleasant welcome drink on arrival and bottled water in room fridge. The dinin area is well lit with serving areas for all different courses and tastes. There is always plenty to choose from. This is certainly the best hotel I have found which accommodated "adults only". It is offers perfect relaxation. We were very happy with our outlook onto the road as there was always something to watch. Our balcony got the morning sun which was nice to wake up to.

Room Tip: If you want to watch sunbathers around the pool - choose a pool view room, otherwise we found outsid...

Stayed here for a week at the begining of May, good central location in town for all the shops and close to the front. It was a nice hotel and were allocated a spacious room on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool. Reception staff were helpful and very friendly and our room was kept tidy and clean and the toiletries were topped up when needed. When we arrived the Spanish pensioners were staying there and the food was just OK, but after they had left the food definately went up in standard and more choice. Champagne for breakfast with a large choice of fruit, breads, hot and cold food, coffee and tea and the evening meal had a very good selection of soup or cold starters, hot or cold food for main, salads and a choice of 3/4 deserts and cheese and biscuits. There was entertainment of an evening, which had a varied programme and some good turns were on. All in all I would go back there again as it is very central but if you want a sea view you would have to choose another hotel.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool.

Returned home from Santa Eulia Wednesday, having gone out to celebrate our son's wedding, held in Amante Beach Club. Been to Santa Eulalia many times but first time in this hotel. Spanish hotels are always spotless but this was exceptional, the food was usual hotel Spanish type, all very edible and plenty of choice. The staff were lovely, always pleasant and happy. It was our anniversary out there also and the hotel gave us fruit and campagne in our room - very nice touch. So many of us were out there at the same time, it was nice to go back to the tranquility of the hotel. If we were pool addicts, we would have been a tad dissapointed, as the beds were so close and so many people saved them - sad, also people said the water was freezing. No worries for us as we went to the beach, which was a 5 minute walk away and beautiful. Excellent location, near to Marina, shops, buses etc; I have problems walking and found everywhere easily accessible. Overall would definitely recommend this hotel to older adults, not for youngsters!!!

Room Tip: We had a pool view room 225, very pleasant. Sun first thing in the morning.

Very clean hotel. Staff very helpful. Very good selection of food for all meals but similar each evening, meats, fish and salad buffets - should be something you would like. There is not a great deal of space around the pool. . Unless you have a pool view then you are overlooking a street and the apartments on the opposite side.In a good position for the marina, shops and beach

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a pool view

La Cala is an excellent hotel, ideally situated only yards from the Marina. Our room was spacious and well placed overlooking the pool. The staff at reception, in the restaurant and at the bar were all very helpful and friendly. We were , however, disappointed with the cooked meals. At breakfast the fruit and fruit juices were good but the hot food was not usually hot. The bacon was over-cooked - difficult to cut and to eat. At dinner the salad bar was excellent, desserts were good but again the cooked meals tended to be warm, sometimes lacking in flavour and the green vegetables were always over- cooked. We expected better at a 4* hotel.

Returned last week from fabulous two weeks at this adults only hotel. Small but beautifully formed hotel, immaculately clean, excellent staff in all departments, they couldn't do enough to ensure holiday is perfect. We were half board but privileged to be with the Spanish pensioners on their free week's holiday so could partake of the free drinks at dinner for the first week of our holiday. Go for a room over looking the pool on the 5th floor where you get a glimmer of the sea over the roof tops. Located near the marina, perfectly placed for a morning stroll along the paseo and to the shops. The whole resort had a lovely peaceful ambiance and would definitely return to this hotel and resort at some time in the future. Thomson Rep: Paul, extremely helpful and informative.

Room Tip: 5th floor, pool view

The initial attraction for us was the "Adults only" banner. Having recently retired (but not reached retirement age!) and recovering from a serious illness - we are looking for quieter holidays.
We flew out with a budget airline and booked the hotel through one of those booking online sites.
This gave us flexibility in airport choice and holiday duration.

In keeping with other guests our transfer dropped us on the main road - which is no more than 30m from the front door of the hotel, and yes it could be a bit disconcerting for older guests - especially if its late.

The first thing we noticed was how spotlessly clean everything was, the floor literally shone. This standard was evident throughout the 7 nights we were there.

We were too late for dinner but the receptionist (after giving us a free glass of cocktail!) suggested we tried the Cafe across the road for a meal. We had a hearty meal and a few drinks for not a lot of money at all.

Our room (304) overlooked said cafe - and yes there can be noise from this, but if you close the 2 sets of sliding patio doors you can't hear a thing.
One advantage of staying in a hotel like this is that you don't hear lots of noise from other guests as they bounce off the walls at all hours of the night because there aren't any that do that.

The room was the standard sort of fare you can expect from this type of hotel.
There were 2 single beds placed close together, the mattresses were firm - which we liked.
The bathroom was clean and supplied with sufficient towels and toiletries.
Unlike many European hotels, we had tea making facilities. There was no coffee sachets, but if you asked at reception they were happy to supply some.

We used the fridge to store our bottles of Don Simon Sangria, which can be purchased from one of a number of small supermarkets nearby.

We opted for Half board, which gave us the freedom to either eat in or go out, but avoided the nightly discussion of "where shall we eat tonight".

We arrived a week or so after the Spanish guests had left and didn't suffer with lesser food quality, unlike other reviewers here.

Meals are the typical "buffet" style and you can eat as much as you like. Generally people eat a lot more at the beginning of the week than they do at the end. My personal favourite for breakfast was the omelettes (cooked to order if you time it right!).
Others have commented on the range of food available and I have to say I agree.
You would be hard put to not find something you could eat.

The range of desserts on offer is astounding, Caramel creme (with extra caramel from the squeezy bottle being my particular favourite).

Entertainment varies in style / content / ability, but if you want a laugh and cant be bothered to walk the streets its OK.
One good thing is that it ends quite early, so there is no booming up through the floors.

The Pool is very clean, and yes there is a problem with the "towel dropping brigade", but we always managed to find a spot for ourselves.
However we were quite prepared to move peoples' towels if they did not appear to be around should we be unable to find a free sun lounger. If others followed the same principle then that would put a stop the few selfish ones.
It has to be noted that there is also a higher level balcony area away from the pool with more loungers so there are quite a few to be had.

The resort seems to have had a considerable amount of money spent on it around the harbour side. We liked sitting under the awnings at "The Mirage" where we people watched with the super yachts parked a few feet away.
The owner is English and very friendly, the food is good too.

Wherever we went we found prices to be reasonable, I didn't feel anything was expensive.

We spent time talking to other guests and found that guests and staff alike were all a seemingly happy bunch. We made some good friends here.

It appeared that some guests had been here before and on their first meal sitting were greeted like long lost friends by the staff in the restaurant. Its nice to know that the hotel retains its staff for more than one season.

Now for the really good bits...

Wifi - according to the room guide you can buy access to Wifi in the room, but its free in the lobby.
I asked for the codes for the lobby - they gave me a set to last the week, and also said that they worked in the room!
My wife did the same with her smart phone.

Check out...
We had to vacate our room at 12:00, but our transfer (from the top of the street again) was not till 19:00.
We put our cases in a locked room and spent the day by the pool - only popping out for some of the delicious ice cream from the man who makes it himself and sells it from the kiosk close to the children's play park on the esplanade.

The receptionist told us that we could have access to a shower room in the lobby before we left for our transfer.
And so it was - we had free access to a shower with towels and toiletries to spruce ourselves up before we left for home.
Top marks for that, we have never had this facility offered before, in what is after all tourist hotel.

So to summarise, we loved the hotel for its cleanliness, the attitude of the staff, its location and the service provided.

Would we go back? - yes definitely.
Would we recommend it? - Yes (to anyone over 40 looking for a quiet retreat)
