“Absolutely excellent hotel”
Reviewed 23 June 2012

We have just come back from the Don Carlos and the stories about the hotel are totally unjustified. The rooms, building, food and uppermost the service are excellent. The staff go out of their way to make sure every customer has what they need. The building has been beautifully renovated and the relaxing chill out vibe is evident. The only problem is with certain holiday makers who are trying to capitalise on previous moans in order to claim compensation and are the sort of people who would find fault with Heaven. We had the best holiday we have ever had including Dubai so please give the Don Carlos a try, its really worth it

We have just returned after a week's holiday (13-20th June '12), the hotel completely exceeded our expectations. The rooms are lovely, beds very comfortable and really nice bathroom with a good hairdryer (and we ladies know how that makes such a difference on holiday!). I was a bit concerned also with the reports of building work etc but these proved a non-issue.

The only point I also would raise is the "all inclusive". It may be just the timing of our arrival which was around 11am, we were told our all incl was "drinks only" which is a surprise you can be doing without having been travelling. What I think the receptionist was trying to say that because our room wasn't ready, we could go and make ourselves comfortable in the bar/pool area but that lunch is not supplied as an all incl option, when the room was then available about 2 hours later, it was no problem at all so I suspect it's something in the phrasing/timing. There is a courtesy room that guests can use to freshen up on arrival if they, like us, arrive well before the rooms can be turned around from departing guests. Check out is 12noon so this is inevitable in some cases.

Breakfast and dinners have a huge selection, breakfast runs 7.30 till 10.30am and dinner from 6.30 (I think) till 9.30pm. There is a good selection of inclusive drinks, not exhaustive but those that are payable are not excessively expensive, eg. wine of the month is 6 euro a bottle, whiskey 4 euro but there is also a wide range of inclusive wines within the dining hall bar, not the main bar though.

The hotel is kept immaculately clean, staff are very friendly, helpful and professional.

Evening acts were all very good quality and diverse. We were there whilst there was a Euro 2012 game on each night so only caught the last hour of most acts, for those wanting the footy there is a big screen and also the tv room for watching. The lobby/lounge area was busy most nights which I take as a good sign.

The only thing I would say is that Thomsons need to make people aware of what is and is not "inclusive", otherwise we had a lovely time, bar that nervous wee moment on arrival!

We would absolutely return to Don Carlos.

Room Tip: I haven't graded the fitness centre as I wasn't in it.

I have just stayed at this hotel (11/06/2012-18/06/2012), I could not recommend it more. I stayed at this hotel 10 years ago as a 15 year old on a family holiday and can say that the hotel has certainly changed, for the better.
The refurbishment has been completed to a very high specification, the public areas have been designed in a modern sleek style and offer free Wi-Fi in the bar/reception area with plenty of seating. I stayed in a standard room which was nicely decorated with wooden flooring a big flat screen TV, two large twin beds pushed together to form a massive double bed with a free safe and fridge to use in the room. The bathroom was decorated to a high standard with a walk-in shower with a massage function included as well as a decent hair dryer next to the large mirror.
I travelled on this holiday with my parents, my partner and my sister and her partner. It was the first time I have stayed in an adult only hotel and really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere throughout the day and the more adult orientated entertainment at night that didn’t need to be cheesy for the children. Throughout the day around the pool music was played, varying from popular current music to chill out and on some days a live acoustic act played in the afternoon which was a very nice touch. The daytime entertainment provided by the two members of the entertainment team, Oscar and Veronica, was just the right balance with regards to being enough, it included a darts, pool, table tennis, French boules and shuffle board tournaments, with different activities on different days. Unlike other hotels I have stayed in the entertainment team provided activities but never pushed you into doing anything and nothing seemed too much for them. The evening entertainment varied from live bands and solo artists singing various genres to acrobatics and drag acts among others.
My party decided to upgrade to the drinks package offered by Thomson and certainly got our monies worth. I notice that some people have commented about it being misleading. It is not a traditional all inclusive package but an upgrade to a drinks package which includes local spirits, beers, and wines as well as soft drinks. We found it useful not having to get money out constantly to pay for drinks. Lunch is not included but there is a small shop just outside the hotel where for about 3-4 euro you can purchase a freshly made sandwich, or you could fill up on breakfast and not need lunch.
With regards to food, the breakfast is plentiful with both hot and cold breakfast on offer every day with fried eggs and omelettes being cooked fresh to order by a chef. We stayed at the hotel for 7 nights and not once did I see the same main course on offer in the evening, with the restaurant offering a different theme from a different country on most nights. There is an a la carte restaurant that can be booked at NO extra cost the night before you wish to dine there. In my opinion this was the only part of the holiday that was a bit of a let-down, we had issues with some of the dishes we ordered and the waiters could have been better however this may have been a one off as most other people we spoke to seemed to really enjoy the experience and I would say that it has been decorated to a very high standard, giving a very nice atmosphere.
In summary the Hotel has been refurbished to a high standard, the Staff are very attentive and the hotel is very clean. The food is of a very high standard and the atmosphere of the hotel is nice and relaxing. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice relaxing holiday in the Ibiza sun and would gladly stay there again, and to put anyone’s mind at rest, there is no sign of any building work taking place and the area of the hotel that suffered the collapse has been well finished and you wouldn't realise what had happened.

Just got back from this hotel . Put it bluntly it's the best hotel iv stayed in. Outstanding . If someone can find a valid reason to moan about it then they have serious 7star Dubai expectations . This hotel is 5star all day!
The rooms are like something out of a bond film !
Champagne on arrival !
Alacarte restaurant was second to none !
Brand new "EVERYTHING"
All the staff were brilliant !!
Food was delightful.

My wife and I first visited this hotel for our honeymoon in 1991 and really enjoyed our stay ,the hotel is set back from the main town across a bridge which crosses the only river in Ibiza.
Perfect for a relaxing time and we have returned with our children a further four times since then.
They now offer an all inclusive option which we found excellent value as the price of food and drink in spain has become very expensive.
I would have said that the hotel was getting ready for a refurb as at our last visit the place was looking a little dated but the service and quality of the staff was not.
But reading the latest reviews it appears the hotel has had colapsed in one section over the winter and has now had improvements made to it.
We plan to returnon our 25th wedding anniversary in 4 years time if not before.

Having just spent a week at this hotel (6-13/6/2012), I would certainly recommend it for anyone seeking a quiet, relaxing holiday. No sign of any building work, rooms spotlessly clean, staff extremely helpful, and the food first class. Minor teething problems regarding staff training are being resolved. Entertainment is adequate, and not carrying on into the early hours means a good nights sleep. Plenty of activity during the day if you feel so inclined.
We hope to return later in the year.

Room Tip: Quiet rooms are those not facing the pool area.

I am staying here now and like everyone else a bit nervous about what we were going to arrive at from what we had read after the collapse. The hotel is absolutely wonderful.the suite we are in is really superb.large bath.two sinks.two tvs at either end of the room and a massive bed! The only small complaint is that the AC is very weak and doesn t kick out much cool air.the staff are all very attentive and helpful and as the hotel has only been open two weeks any problems will soon be ironed out.this is now a really relaxing and chilled out place to be.well worth the money and the upgrade to a suite with a sea view.
